Race 4: SEA VISTA DEVELOPMENTS BM80 H’CAP – 1800M EMERALD CITY – Stewards questioned R. Goltz regarding his riding from the 400m until approaching the 250m. Stewards raised concerns that he appeared to display a lack of vigour given that COLOUR CHARGE, which won the race, had led and had set only a slow tempo in the early and middle stages. R. Goltz explained that trainer David Vandyke had instructed him similarly to previous starts in that he is of the opinion that the horse does not finish its races off when finding the lead too early in the home straight. He had been instructed, therefore, to try to time his run into the race to ensure that he is contesting the led over the concluding stages. Trainer Vandyke confirmed these instructions. Stewards advised jockey Goltz that given the instructions he had been issued, they were not overly critical of his actions, however did feel that with hindsight and given that COLOUR CHARGE had been given an easy lead, he would have been better served pressuring the horse from the 400m, however noted the explanation and took no further action. GOOD JOB BRO – Slow to begin. ROCK THE PAC – R. Fradd reported that whilst the performance of his mount was somewhat disappointing, he felt this could be attributed to the steady pace set in the early and middle stages, which did not suit the horse’s racing pattern.
