RACE 1: SKY RACING CLASS 6 PLATE – 1000M

TIBROGARGAN MISS – Prior to correct weight being declared, stewards considered an application by apprentice L. Tarrant and trainer D. Hansen to have the horse declared a non runner. Apprentice Tarrant presented evidence that TIBROGARGAN MISS, in his opinion, had been denied a fair start as the barrier attendant had turned the horse’s head to the side into the adjacent barrier stall after the horse had been fractious  and reared on a number of occasions.  Stewards also took evidence from trainer Mr D. Hansen and considered footage of the start and  leading up to the start.  Stewards were satisfied that the barrier attendant was assisting Luke Tarrant in controlling the horse as the horse when fractious did rear on a number of occasions and prior to the start had turned the horse’s head to the side in an attempt to settle TIBROGARGAN MISS. Steward were however of the view, other than for the barrier manners displayed by TIBROGARGAN MISS, the horse was otherwise afforded a fair start and as a result ruled the horse to be a runner and declared correct weight.

MEET GEORGE JETSON – Trainer R. Heathcote reported that, in his opinion , the horse raced flat and would now be sent for a spell in light of today’s performance.

RACE 2: SKY RACING THOROUGHBRED CENTRAL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1600M

SAGA MISS – Slow to begin. Stewards questioned  trainer W. Hulbert regarding the improved performance. He indicated that during this preparation the horse had worked well and performed well in jumpouts.  He added the horse was quite slow to begin at its most recent start and as the race was a shorter distance than today’s event he was unable to muster sufficient early speed to make up ground. He felt that due to the step up in distance and slow early tempo in today’s event, this was more suitable and the horse’s racing pattern after it had been quite slow to begin.  He also indicated the gear change performed for today’s event was also beneficial.

EIGHT VERSES – Had to be steadied from heels when overracing near the 1250m when tightened for room by PINOLINO, which shifted in and steadied the pace when not sufficiently clear.  Apprentice J. Orman was reprimanded. Shortly afterwards was ridden forward to assume the lead passing the 900m.

RISEUPSKATING – Forced wider near the 800m. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported her mount raced greenly throughout.

HUSSON BOOTS – Overraced in the early stages and when the pace slackened further near the 800m had to be checked from heels. Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

MIAZUMI – When attempting to secure clear running near the 500m clipped heels and blundered and shortly after had to be checked. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey P. Hammersley indicated that the pattern of the race did not suit the horse as it was positioned in the second half of the field, and as the pace was only steady in the early stages, was unable to finishing the race off strongly.  He also indicated the interference he suffered approaching the 500m had a detrimental effect as he was attempting to improve into the race at that point.

ROBARD – Significantly slow to begin.

TRALEE CHORUS – Slow to begin.

EIGHT BELOW – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Orman indicated he would have liked  to have improved into the race near the 600m as the horse won its last start by improving outside the field from that point of the race.  He indicated at that point he was held up behind other runners and was unable to  pressure the horse until entering the straight.

RARE AIR – Laid in and away from another runner and had to be steadied near the 550m.

GOULDIAN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SHANZAM – Raced wide without cover.

KEEP N ROCKING – Raced wide.

SOLAR BURST – When asked to comment, apprentice J. Oliver indicated that he was disappointed with the performance. He said he had been instructed to apply pressure to the horse in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a position closer than the horse had raced last start. He felt that this may not have suited the horse but despite this he still felt the horse was quite disappointing.  Trainer T. Sears agreed that the horse was disappointing and would have veterinary tests performed in the coming days and would notify stewards of the results. Lost off fore plate in running.

Race 8: SKY RACING REPLAYS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1200M

TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – After being held up for clear running rounding the home turn, was placed in restricted room after passing the 400m and had to be steadied approaching the 300m.

CANNY EXCEL – Placed in restricted room near the 350m and had to be steadied.

COLINELLE – P. Hammersley was asked to comment on the performance. He indicated that he attempted to secure cover in the early stages, however the horse overraced  and he indicated that as he had been instructed to avoid fighting the horse if it had commenced to overrace, he allowed the horse to stride from approaching the 800m.  He felt that the horse was still travelling well approaching the home turn however did not respond when pressured in the home straight.  In light of today’s performance he recommended to connections to send the horse for a spell. Trainer S. O’Dea advise that the horse would now be sent for a spell.   A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
