GENERAL

As R. Wiggins was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet

Race 1: Bell Potter Class 3 Plate – 1200m

PERFORATION – Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Refused to settle in the early stages and when overracing was then permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 800m. The gelding then hung out until entering the home straight.

WICKED SNIPPETS – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.

FOUR EXCEL – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped another runner.

Race 2: North Shore Realty Class 2 H’cap  – 1600m

ROBARD – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost significant ground. Connections advised that the horse would now be retired from racing.

FIRST STIMULUS – Stood flat-flooted at the start and was slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages and shifted wider near the 1200m and raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the event.

HIDDEN GOLD – Slow to begin.

FASTQUEST – When the pace slackened in the early stages Overraced and shifted out to avoid heels, and was then ridden forward to take up a position outside the lead passing the 1000m.

ONE MANSINI – Stewards questioned jockey J. Lloyd regarding his riding in the home straight where after having been in a position trailing WICKED TRILOGY he appeared to remain on the back of that horse for a significant period of the home straight before directing his horse out abruptly after passing the 200m around that horse’s heels to secure clear running.  Stewards questioned jockey Lloyd as to why there was such a period of time before he was able to shift the horse into clear running.  Jockey Lloyd indicated the horse was under pressure from leaving the 600m and was not travelling well when entering the home straight, and it had been his intention to shift to the outside of WICKED TRILOGY, however the horse when leaving the 300m was inclined to lay in and showed a reluctance to respond to his efforts to shift the horse out when approaching the 200m.  Stewards reviewed the patrol footage with jockey Lloyd and accepted his explanation.

Race 3: Coolum Holidays Maiden H’cap – 1600m

IMPERIAL DRAGON – Slow to begin.   Heavily bumped by another runner and became unbalanced near the 200m.

EXCITED DREAM – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost significant ground. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse.

MARSHALL STROMBERG – When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted , apprentice T. Brooker indicated that no firm instructions had been given other than to have the horse travel comfortably.   Trainer T. Thomas confirmed the instructions. He advised the rider not to commit to cover too early as the horse overraced at its most recent start and that he did not wish for the horse to overrace again.  Apprentice Brooker indicated that when caught wide in the early stages she allowed the horse to stride forward to the lead.  The explanation was noted.

VULPINI – Jockey G. Goold pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that after directing his mount in during  the early stages of the home straight, he rode the horse along and continued to pressure the horse which continued to shift in, causing  SCARLETT HUSSIE to be  tightened for room.  SCARLETT HUSSIE as a result then had to be checked from the heels of  SCRABBLE which was racing to the inside at that point.   Jockey Goold was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 11 days to commence at midnight, 3 October and to expire at midnight, 14 October.

Race 4: Sunshine Valuers Maiden Plate – 1200m

COURTESY – Slow to begin and failed to muster early speed, and apprentice T. Brooker reported she was obliged to pressure the horse to remain at the tail of the field.

WAITING GAME – Hung out throughout the event. Trainer S. Watters advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

SNOWY MOET – Hung out from the 600m onwards.

MR BON VIVANT – When  questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer Mr A. Williamson  attributed the performance to the addition of blinkers, as the  horse had been galloped in blinkers on Tuesday and worked well and he expected a forward showing today, particularly given the horse  was caught wide without cover at its most recent start and he had been satisfied with the horse’s finishing effort.

Race 5: Sekisui House QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1000m

CHARNLEY RIVER – Jumped away awkwardly.  When questioned regarding his riding of the horse rounding the home turn and into the home straight, jockey D. Browne indicated that after being slightly held up on the home turn  when trying to give himself more room he saw the opportunity to improve  on the inside of TVERSKY, which had  shifted out.  He pressured the horse from the 400m and the horse responded and his intention was to improve to the inside of CASH’N’RUN.  He indicated approaching the 300m that the run commenced to close and he was obliged to shift out and attempt a run to the outside of SHE’S SO MEAN. Shortly after he attempted this run,  SHE’S SO MEAN shifted out, causing him again to be disappointed for a run and resulted in him steadying his mount.  He then indicated he was able to obtain clear running near the 50m and the horse finished the race off strongly. A post race veterinary examination found the horse to have blood in both nostrils and therefore would incur a 3 month bar from racing under AR53A, and must gallop 1000 metres before stewards prior to its next race start.

MAC’S BOY – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.   Steadied form heels after passing the 400m. Raced wide without cover.

BRACING – Bumped near the 400m,  became unbalanced and shifted out. Jockey R Fradd, rider of TVERSKY, was reprimanded for this incident.

IMA RAHEEB – A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which finished distanced,  found it had raced without its tongue-tie Jockey A. Spinks confirmed the horse got its tongue  out of the tongue-tie and raced with its tongue over the bit, which may have affected its performance.

Race 6: Coolum Beach Bowls Club Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1400m

FAST ARROW – Slow to begin.

GLENTHORN AVENUE – Slow to begin.

PICTURE IT – Raced wide without cover.

ABU BEN ADAM – Jockey J. Hoopert, rider of GLENTHORN AVENUE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift in approaching the 800m to a point where there was insufficient room to the inside, resulting in  jockey Bogenhuber having to take hold of that horse approaching the 800m. Jockey J. Hoopert was issued with a severe reprimand due to his exemplary race riding record with regard to careless riding.
Race 7: Element On Coolum Beach Class 1 H’cap – 1400m

LONHIE ROCKS – Apprentice Lacy was examined by the doctor after riding in Race 2 and was stood down from her engagement  in this race. Jockey S. Bogenhuber was substituted as the rider of the horse. Overraced when the pace slackened after passing the 800m and had to be checked.  Laid in under pressure near the 200m and had to be checked to avoid the heels of MONTEZUMA, which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

GET OUTA UTAH – When the pace slackened near the 800m had to be steadied from heels and raced wide from that point onwards.

HEROIC ROCK – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until after leaving the 200m.

HOT HYPNOSIS – Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

DUKE DE VEGA – Raced wide without cover. Lost its near hind plate in running.
