SHE’S SO MEAN – Jumped away awkwardly. GOLDEN SUNSET – Raced 3 wide without cover. Race 4: Caloundra Towing/Tow N Ride Tilt Trays QTIS 3yo F&M Plate (2) – 1000m LUNA BLU – Slow to begin. JARDIN ROUGE – When questioned, jockey R. Plumb stated he was advised by the trainer that the horse had a history of being fractious in the gates and his instructions were to position the horse where it felt comfortable in the early stages. He added that after being crossed shortly after the start the filly raced a little greenly back in the field however finished the race off reasonably well and, in his opinion, would benefit from today’s experience and may be better suited over longer distances than that of today’s event. BUSH BELLA – Lost its off fore plate in running. Race 5: F45 Training Caloundra CG&E Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap - 1200m SPIRITED SAINT – Slow to begin. D’HARMONY – Slow to begin. Lost its off hind plate in running. WOLF EYES – Had to be steadied leaving the 700m when placed in restricted room. WONDERFUL TALE – Apprentice S. Lacy reported it was not her intention to lead, however after the horse began well and won the start by half a length, she attempted to steady in an attempt to secure cover but was unable to do so. She added her mount did not appreciate racing in this position and hung out for the majority of the race, resulting in her being unable to fully test her mount in the home straight. MEME MAILLOT JAUNE – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Race 6: Swim Between the Flags F&M Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap – 1200m VORTUKA – Declared a late scratching at 3.30 pm after being injured in its float en route to the course. ENDLESS PUZZLE – Held up momentarily after the 400m. FRENCH HUSSLER – Jockey J. Orman was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. DANDY ONE – Jockey D. Browne was asked to explain his tactics adopted in the early stages when he relinquished the lead before striding forward and being positioned outside the lead near the 800m, and further questioned regarding the overall performance. He explained that in the early stages he was of the view that ENDLESS PUZZLE, which showed early speed, would settle in the lead with LITTLE WEALTH settling to the outside of that horse and as a result he elected to steady as he felt he would be positioned behind the leader, however after making this decision, ENDLESS PUZZLE was steadied and LITTLE WEALTH crossed to the lead, which forced DANDY ONE further back. He then elected to stride forward to secure a position closer to the lead. He indicated that, in his view, the horse did not run out a strong 1400m and was also of the view that the impost of 59 kilograms had a bearing on the gelding’s finishing effort. The explanation was noted. Race 8: Gswitch Maiden H’cap – 1300m MADAM SHAZAM – Slow to begin. KING CLEO – Slow to begin. Jockey P. Hammersley reported that his mount travelled well until the home turn and that when placed under pressure in the home straight weakened badly, however he could offer no explanation. VILLA CORTONA – Restrained in the early stages from an outside barrier to gain a position closer to the rail. Jockey J. Orman reported he had been instructed to ride the horse from the wide barrier back in the field. He felt the horse found the line strongly and would benefit from a step up in distance as it was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Race 9: Caloundra Towing/Tow N Ride Tilt Trays Ratings Band 0-58 H’cap – 1400m LANDALE – Overraced at heels when the pace slackened near the 1000m and shifted out, making contact with another runner, and then continued to overrace until approaching the 600m. HOT HYPNOSIS – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey J. Orman stated he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position and when caught wide in the early stages elected to continue forward to secure a position outside the lead. He added he was unable to secure the lead until approaching the 600m and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance as the horse weakened over the final 200m. Race 10: Perren & Penny Plumbing Ratings Band 0-62 H’cap – 2200m Prior to correct weight, stewards reviewed the start as KAZAN appeared to jump before the other runners when the start was effected.
