Race 1: CMBM FACILITY SERVICES ROCKHAMPTON CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1000M

JONZALI – Laid out approaching the 400m, bumped the hind quarters of MR STRACHAN and became unbalanced. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse bled from both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which the gelding has bled, it will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

MR STRACHAN – The nearside winker became detached passing the 600m. Raced three wide throughout. Bumped on the hind quarters approaching the 400m.

Race 2: CMBM FACILITY SERVICES TOWNSVILLE CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1400M

COURAGEOUS ROCK – Slow to begin. Commenced to overrace when the pace slackened passing the 1000m and shifted wider on the track to avoid heels.

OMNIA MARKA TAYADA – M. Morris was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on entering the straight whereby he shifted his mount out, allowing runners to improve to his inside. Jockey Morris explained that after observing the first race he noticed that the winner raced three wide in a 9 metre position, therefore on entering the straight he elected to shift out into that position, which in his opinion has been beneficial for other runners in the past. M. Morris pleaded guilty to charges under AR. 137A(5)(a)(i) and (ii) for using the whip on 9 occasions and in consecutive strides prior to the 100m and was fined $200.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 4.

Race 3: CMBM FACILITY SERVICES GOLD COAST QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed when WILLY BE LUCKY got its leg through the back gate, was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary inspection and was cleared to take its place in the field.

LITTLE DRUMMER BOY – Began awkwardly. T. Harrison reported at scale that her saddle shifted back slightly during the event.

LUCKY CAPTAIN – M. McGillivray was questioned regarding the tactics he adopted on the gelding, whereby it was ridden back in the field, which is contrary to the racing pattern at its previous start. M. McGillivray stated that he was instructed to be neutral on the horse today and not to allow it to overrace. He added that he got further back than he anticipated. Trainer R. Heathcote’s stable representative was advised that in future he must inform stewards of any change of riding tactics.

MERLIN THE WIZARD – Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.

Brooker was dislodged from BLOSSOM whilst proceeding to the barriers, resulting in the saddle shifting to a position where apprentice Brooker was unable to remount the gelding until the horse had been resaddled behind the barriers, which resulted in the start of this race being delayed.
