SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Doomben, Friday, 26.1.18
 
Race 8.
 
Stewards today interviewed trainer K. Schweida regarding the riding of BINARY, which was in contrast to its normal racing pattern.  Mr Schweida explained that he instructed jockey J. Taylor to ride the horse aggressively in the early stages, however he anticipated FLAMIN’ MOGUL leading with DREAMSCOPE  settling outside that runner and BINARY racing third or fourth with cover. Stewards accepted his explanation however reminded him of his responsibilities to advise stewards if any riding tactic changes are to occur.
 
Race 4. 
 
Trainer B. Lockwood reported that Namib pulled up lame in the off foreleg following its disappointing performance. Mr Lockwood was advised he must supply a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

Race 1: Coastline BMW M140I Open H’cap – 2400m
 
TONI MAY – Slow to begin. Apprentice T. Brooker reported to stewards it had not been her intention to lead, however after being caught wide when passing the winning post on the first occasion she elected to stride forward and take up the leading position  passing the 1600m.
 
LYRIDS –   Apprentice J. Guthmann-Chester could offer no explanation for today’s disappointing performance, which weakened over the final 600m and tailed the field.   A post race veterinary examination found the horse to have a poor post race recovery. Stewards interviewed trainer M. Costa who indicated that following this performance he would have endoscopic examination performed and blood tests and following this he would contact stewards with these findings.  
 
TUMULTUOUS – Jockey R. Fradd reported his mount raced flat today and never travelled well throughout the event and proved disappointing in its finishing effort, adding that the horse laid in from the 600m onwards. The trainer’s representative indicated that the horse had returned to scale in a distressed state.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings.
 
 
Race 2: Coastline BMW M2 QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1600m
 
BEACH DRUM – The start of this race was delayed due to the filly having to have its off fore plate reattached.
 
PINCH PASSION – Slow to begin.
 
BOLD ASSASSIN – Overraced for a short distance after passing the 1100m.
 
SIR BARNABUS – Overraced for a short distance after passing the 1100m. Held up for a short distance after passing the 500m. Again had difficulty securing clear running near the 300m and raced greenly for a short distance.
 
FRANCISCA – Raced 3 wide throughout without cover.
 
 
Race 3: Coastline BMW 4 Series Class 3 Plate – 1600m
 
EKSUUDE – Due to not having started for approximately 2 years, this gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
SAVWELL – Following a request  from trainer D. Vandyke, this runner was  scratched by order of stewards  at 12.50 pm  after  concerns were raised that SAVWELL  was in a  distressed state in the race day stalls. A veterinary inspection of the gelding found that the horse to be sweating and this in conjunction with the stable’s concerns resulted in the stewards acceding to the request to have the horse scratched.
 
Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions  applicable.
 
17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
14 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
19 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
20 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place  bets
 
Trainer D. Vandyke was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for the horse prior to its next race start.
 
GODZONE GIRL– Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Overraced in the middle stages.
 
REALING – Laid in badly in the home straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage.
 
VAULTING AMBITION – Jockey T. Brooker reported her mount laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KERMANDIE STAR – Laid in badly under pressure in the home straight.
 
ABERLADY – Hung out throughout the event. Trainer D. Duryea was advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.  Lost its near hind plate in running.
 

Race 4: Coastline BMW 3 Series 2yo Classic QTIS Added Stakes Plate – 1200m
 
SIZZLING ACE – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in the second half of the field. The horse was ridden  accordingly after being slow to begin. Inconvenienced after passing the 400m.
 
SHARE THE BLAME – Slow to begin. Tailed off and finished a distant last.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
PENNINO – Jumped away awkwardly and made contact with another runner.
 
HOPES ETERNAL – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.
 
 
 
Race 5: Coastline BMW 5 Series Class 6 H’cap – 1000m
 
MALVERN ESTATE – Trainer D. Forster was fined $200 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. The start was delayed when MALVERN ESTATE required farrier attention.  Raced wide.
 
YARRAPOWER – Slow to begin.  Had some difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

COLINELLE – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
INVINCIBLE HEART – Overraced in the lead in the early and middle stages before weakening in the home straight.  Jockey B. Grylls reported to stewards she was disappointed in the performance and felt that the horse overracing,  had a bearing on the overall performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be striding short in both forelegs and bilaterally sore in both front feet. Trainer Mr Chris Meagher was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for the horse prior to its next race start.
 
JUST ORM – Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
CALKE ABBEY – Raced wide.
 
 
Race 6: Coastline BMW i3 QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1000m
 
The start was delayed when both PARADIS IMPERIAL and SHOWUS YA DIAMONDS were both fractious in the barriers and  underwent veterinary examinations before being cleared to start.
 
PARADIS IMPERIAL –  After being fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
SHOWUS YA DIAMONDS – Fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start, causing the rider to become unbalanced. Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn.   Stewards questioned jockey R. McMahon in relation to his riding over the final 100m. He indicated as his mount had  commenced to feel awkward in its action he did alter his riding style, however felt that he was still placing some pressure on the filly.   A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be  sore over the rump and lame in the off hind leg. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for the horse prior to its next race start.
 
IMA FARMBOY – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start. Obliged to race in restricted room approaching the 600m.
 
UMBERTO – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BASARA – Obliged to race in restricted room approaching the 600m. Blundered whilst racing in restricted room near the 700m.
 
ARRARAC - Obliged to race in restricted room approaching the 600m. Jockey A. Spinks reported that, in his opinion, his mount got its tongue over the bit and may have choked down. Raced wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which finished tailed off, revealed  no significant findings. Trainer A. Jenkinson advised  that the horse held its breath and that he will fit a tongue-tie for its next race start.
 
SUERTE – Raced wide without cover.
 
BOLD XAVVI – Raced wide without cover.
 
WINTER BRIDE – Raced wide.  Lost its near fore plate in running.
 
WICKED EXPRESS – Raced wide.
 
WONDER BOOM – Stewards questioned  jockey B. Stewart regarding the tactics adopted, which resulted in his horse settling towards the rear of the field after passing the 600m, which was in contrast to its established racing pattern.  Jockey Stewart indicated that he had been instructed to attempt to ride just behind the lead with cover if possible. He added that he shifted across behind runners to his inside and after initially having a position 2 positions back from the lead, he was inconvenienced when a runner to his inside, that being SHOWUS YA DIAMONDS, shifted out, causing him to steady and lose further ground, resulting in the horse being positioned further back than he would have liked. Stewards reviewed the footage with jockey Stewart and accepted his explanation.
 
SISTA ACT – Stewards questioned jockey R. Stewart in relation to the tactic to lead in today’s event, which was in contrast to the horse’s established racing pattern. He indicated from the wide barrier today that whilst he had been instructed to dig the horse out of the barriers, he had been asked to attempt to obtain a position midfield with cover as connections did not anticipate the horse showing  gate speed. He added the horse had been freshened up for today’s event and began very well, and after travelling a short distance he elected to continue to pressure the horse and cross to the lead. After reviewing the footage with jockey R. Stewart, stewards accepted his explanation.
 
 
Race 7: Coastline BMW X1 Benchmark 75 H’cap (2) – 1200m
 
PRIORITISE – Jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner.  Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be  steadied.  When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey Cassidy indicated he had planned to settle the horse in a forward position however after beginning awkwardly and being interfered with at the start, was obliged to take hold and settle with cover at the tail of the field. Overraced in the middle stages.
 
RAGAZZO DEL CORSA – Bumped by another runner on jumping away.  Forced wider after passing the 800m.
 
PATRONIZING – When being restrained passing the 800m to allow another runner to cross his mount, raced ungenerously with its head in the air for some distance. Stewards questioned apprentice jockey B. Thornton regarding his tactics after passing the 900m, which after having had a position on the fence in the lead, resulted in his horse being positioned 3 wide without cover passing the 600m.   He indicated to stewards when BEAUDRAGON was improving to the lead he elected to steady and allow that horse to cross and it was his intention to shift out to settle outside that horse if possible, however when he restrained PATRONIZING the horse reacted badly and raced very ungenerously with its head in the air for some distance.  He added that as a result of this the horse lost ground and shifted out. A short distance later jockey B. Stewart  improved to his inside and forced him wider on the track and he was obliged to continue racing 3 wide from that point onwards.
 
 
 
 
 
Race 8: Coastline BMW 2 Series Benchmark 75 H’cap (1) – 1200m
 
GYPSY MISS – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed timed. Raced 4 wide.
 
ELLAWISDOM – Slow to begin.
 
MEHMETO – Tightened for room at the start and had to be steadied.
 
MEDIA VITA – Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels at the start.   Jockey L. Tarrant, rider of BOLD GYPSY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift out under pressure, tightening the running of MEDIA VITA (B. Stewart), which caused jockey  B. Stewart to take hold of his mount when tightened on to VICTORY EIGHT.  Jockey Tarrant was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight,  4 February and to expire midnight, 12 February.
 
I’VE GOTTA NEL – Jumped away awkwardly, inconveniencing runners to the outside.
 
VICTORY EIGHT – Overraced at heels in the early stages and had to be checked near the 900m. Raced wide.
 
MARKSFIELD – Laid in after passing the 600m, inconveniencing runners to the inside despite the efforts of its rider. Overraced whilst racing  in a 4 wide position without cover.
 
BOLD GYPSY – Tightened for room after passing the 600m and obliged to race in restricted room until approaching the 300m when its rider elected to steady and shifted to the outside in order to secure clear running.  Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
PRUE’S ANGEL – Placed in restricted room after passing the 600m when buffeted by other runners.
 
BARNSLEY – Held up rounding the home turn and until approaching the 100m.
 
BERGERAC – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Obliged to steady from heels near the 300m and shifted back to the inside to secure clear running, and then shifted out passing the 200m in an attempt to secure clear running. Raced wide.
 
 
Race 9: Coastline BMW Sunshine Coast Cup – 1400m
 
BRAZEN MOSS – Trainer T. Gollan was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.  Slow to begin.
 
WEINHOLT – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
TRUBIA – Slow to begin.
 
MIGHTY LIKE – Inconvenienced shortly after the start. Overraced for a short distance passing the 1100m.
 
BIDII BABE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
BANDA SPICE – Inconvenienced near the 300m.
 
HEARTBREAK HARRY – Shifted out near the 300m, inconveniencing another runner.
 
INVINZABEEL – When weakening was placed in restricted room after passing the 300m and had to be steadied.  Raced 3 wide without over. A post race veterinary examination  revealed soreness in the off fore leg and mild soreness across the back. Connections advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
 
SIR MOMENTS –  Had to be steadied near the 200m to avoid the heels of a tiring runner and then again held up over the concluding stages. Raced wide.
 
FAROLITOS – Raced 4 wide without cover.
 
IRISH CONSTABULARY – Raced wide.
 
TORGENSEN – Raced wide. Jockey M. Cahill reported he had been instructed to ride the horse in a more forward position, however it was unable to muster any early speed and therefore was obliged to steady and settle at the tail of the field.
 
DREAMS APLENTY  - A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from heat stress.
 
Race 10: Coastline BMW All New X3 NMW H’cap – 1400m
 
HONEY HOLT – Slow to begin.  Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
MAMSELLE CORDAY – Overraced in the lead in the early stages.
 
CLOCKWORK ORANGE – Overraced in the lead in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from thumps.
 
BOLD AND GROOVY – Raced 3 wide without cover.
