The start of this race was delayed when ROYAL ASSASSIN, which reared high in the barriers and got its front legs over the barrier gates, was declared a late scratching at 12:42 pm. Trainer T. Bourke was advised that as the horse had offended previously, it would be required to obtain 3 further barrier certificates, 2 of which must be in barrier trials. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on ROYAL ASSASSIN be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 12:42 pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #6
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5

AQUAGEM – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in for the majority of the event.

SIOUXSIE – Slow to begin.

As a result of heavy rain falling during the running of this event, the track was downgraded to HEAVY 10 retrospective.

Following the running of this event stewards interviewed a contingent of riders who participated in the race and discussed the kickback as well as the footing of their mounts. After this discussion both riders and stewards were satisfied to continue and monitor the track conditions for the remaining events.

Race 3: UBET BRIBIE ISLAND MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

JEN FROM MYERS – Bled from both nostrils. Trainer K. Clark-Peoples was advised that the mare would be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

KING RAGNAR – Slow to begin. M. Cahill reported that at no stage of the event did his mount travel comfortably in the rain-affected conditions. He indicated that he was obliged to pressure the horse in the early stages to remain in contact with the main body of the field.

THE ICE KNIGHT – Overraced for a short distance passing the 700m.

MEIKAS – J. Bayliss was asked to comment on the horse’s performance, which was below market expectations. He indicated that after working hard to obtain a position outside the lead the horse travelled comfortably, however failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the home straight. He felt that the horse handled the rain-affected conditions, however he was disappointed in the overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

ZUKAZ – Slow to begin.

Race 7: SECURE ACCESS IT CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1600M

SKULDUGGERY – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in after passing the 700m until entering the home straight.

Race 8: DESTINY RESCUE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1400M

WEEKEND SAGA – Stewards interviewed rider J. Bayliss regarding the horse’s finishing effort and his riding over the concluding stages. He indicated that the horse, after failing to respond to his riding in the early stages of the home straight, became awkward in its action and for this reason he did not ride the horse out over the final 200m. He added that in his opinion the horse did not handle the rain-affected conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a slow post-race recovery.
