Chaplin, C. DraperStarter – D Breed, S Mackinnon GENERAL As jockey L. Tarrant was ill, rider replacements were made as per the race day stewards summary. L. Tarrant will be required to provide a medical clearance before next race riding. Race 1: TAB Maiden Plate 1800 metres ALIGN THE PLANETS – Approaching the 50m was awkwardly placed at the heels of BID FOR FAME which shifted out under pressure. EL MAESTRO (NZ) – Held up rounding the home turn. Near the 400m improved onto the heels of SET BEAT and became momentarily awkward on heels. Laid out under pressure over the final 100m. MASTER RICH – Slow to begin. Rider J. Gutman-Chester reported that the gelding raced disappointingly and felt that MASTER RICH may benefit from a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mild heat stress. Trainers representative T. Pollard indicated that it would be the intention to send the gelding for a spell. TEPPANYAKI (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. Rider J. Stanley reported that when unable to obtain a position with cover he was obliged to race wide throughout. He added that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited when ridden conservatively with cover. I PREFER MINTIES (NZ) – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Trainers representative C. Cavanough advised that it would be the intention to step I PREFER MINTIES up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have minor lacerations to both hind legs. PHAROAH'S EYE – Raced wide until the 1300m. Rider M. Hellyer reported his mount over raced in the early stages. Race 2: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate 1000 metres BORRELLI – Bumped at the start. DELARENTA – Jumped awkwardly. Apprentice C. Graham advised that it was the intention to be more forward in the race however after beginning awkwardly was obliged to race in a midfield position. EXCEED SPEED – Jumped awkwardly. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Rider B. Thompson reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant findings. Connections indicated consideration would now be given to geld EXCEED SPEED. GOLD PRINCE – Slow to begin. HELL AND BACK – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. TOUR DE FIELD – Leaving the 800m put in an awkward stride. ULTIMATE – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BORRELLI. Race 3: HIGGINS COATINGS QTIS Class 6 Plate (4YO only QTIS bonuses applicable) 1000 metres GEMELON BOLT – Laid in rounding the home turn and became awkward on heels. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant findings. EASY SINGLE – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant findings. Rider J. Orman could not offer any explanation for today’s performance other than he was obliged to race on the inside section of the track which he felt was an inferior going. KINGSTON'S HERE – Jumped awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m. AVOLONTE – Raced wide throughout. JEMELDI – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn. Co-trainer R. Tyrell expressed his disappointment with the gelding’s performance, adding JAMELDI had raced flat and would now be sent for a spell. BURNISH GOLD – Jumped in at the start and hampered EASY SINGLE. Over raced leaving the 800m and had to be restrained from heels. Stable representative Mr C. Bell stated that today the mare was down in class and weight and in his opinion appreciated the drop back in distance. Stewards noted the explanation. MY SNOW QUEEN – Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for a run leaving the 200m. Race 4: SCTC FUNCTIONS QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate 1000 metres CAXTON LASS – Shifted out at the start and bumped LAVONI. Raced wide throughout. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have the thumps and a poor post-race recovery. CRYPTIC SOUND – Improved onto heels at the 250m. HOLYROOD GIRL – Began awkwardly resulting in the rider becoming momentarily unbalanced in the saddle. Raced wide throughout. LAVONI – Bumped at the start. Put in an awkward stride near the 800m. Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced leaving the 200m when CAXTON LASS shifted out when racing greenly. LAYDOWNLILY – Hampered on jumping away. MISS BIITTERSWEET – Raced wide throughout. MUST BE THE MONEY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed to race. Held up approaching the home turn. THE UNDERGROUND – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Lost the near hind plate in running. TOMMY'S GIRL – Slow to begin and then hampered a short distance later and lost ground. Raced erratically in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination stepping short in the off hind leg and signs of muscle soreness. Trainer D. Forster advised that she would officially trial the filly, with stewards confirming TOMMY’S GIRL would have to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again. TORQUE ABOUT MAGIC – Held up rounding the home turn until near the 250m. VENTURER – Raced wide throughout. WE GIRLS – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have the presence of blood in the off side nostril. Trainer M. Nolan was advised that the filly would be required to gallop a 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to being permitted to race again. DAWN DOWN UNDER – Hampered shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight when racing greenly. Race 5: SCTC MEMBERSHIP BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1800 metres HOLSTEIN – Over raced in the early stages. VITESSE FRANCAIS – Became momentarily awkward at the heels of BLAZEN BOOTS upon entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MASTER MARKO (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BLAZEN BOOTS (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages. Attempted to shift out rounding the home turn but was unable to do so when TIRITIRI held it’s running line, was then held up until near the 400m. TIRITIRI (NZ) – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Rider M. Du Plessis reported that his mount over raced and that he had recommended to connections to remove the blinkers. Lost the off hind plate in running. WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) – Rider lost the whip near the 200m. Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres HANG FIVE – Jumped awkwardly. BALDASSARE – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 200m was momentarily awkwardly placed at heels. FASTLING - Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice C. Graham advised stewards that the gelding proved difficult to settle in the early stages. She further added that FASTLING would appreciate races run at a stronger tempo which would allow the gelding to settle better than it did in today’s event. GRANITE PRINCE – Over raced in the early stages. TRES REDOUTE – Jumped awkwardly. NORTHERN PRIDE – Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. MAXIE TAP (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running from rounding the home turn until leaving the 200m. Race 7: I LOVE TURF Class 1 Handicap 1600 metres ESKY (NZ) – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m obliged to steady when tightened for room when ONE IN ALL shifted in despite the efforts of the rider. Carried wider over final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities. KUREDER (NZ) – Improved onto heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. VALANTINO ROC (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages until near the 1100m. BALTRAY – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages. Improved onto heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. DARING DIEGO – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. WEST CORK – Rider N. Evans was reprimanded for excessive whip use in that he used his whip 16 times in totality. KIND WISH (NZ) – Near the 1200m shifted in away from VALANTINO ROC which was progressing forward wider on the track. RED STAR RUBI – Shifted out under pressure over the final 150m. CRISTALINO (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Improved onto heels near the 900m and shifted wider. A post-race veterinary examination showed signs of being in season. Trainer M. Laine was advised that in light of today’s performance, the mare would be ineligible to race at Metropolitan race meeting’s until such time that CRISTALINO’s form improves. ONE IN ALL – Commenced to race keenly near the 1000m and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider. Continued to over race for some distance later. Improved onto heels approaching the 600m and had to be steadied. Race 8: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BENCHMARK 65Handicap 1400 metres HALF CROWN – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover. Apprentice B. Wheeler advised that he was not disappointed with the performance of the gelding, adding that he was obliged to race further back in the field than anticipated. He further added that HALF CROWN would appreciate a step up in distance. INVICTUS LAD – Rider M. Hellyer stated the gelding over raced and proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages when leading. Shifted out under pressure near the 150m before being corrected by its rider. NAVAL TRADER – Rider B. Thompson stated that it was not his intention to settle in a forward position however after beginning fairly he allowed his mount to stride forward from the wider barrier without having to apply pressure to the gelding. POETIC DRAMA (NZ) – Jumped awkwardly and made contact with the barrier gate. Lost the near side winker in this incident. Approaching the 400m improved onto heels and was obliged to shift wider. RISING PACIFIC (NZ) – Jumped awkwardly. GLEEFILLY – Raced wide throughout. SUNSET SOIREE – Slow to begin. Obliged to shift wider near the 150m to avoid heels. BETTER ETHICS – Approaching the 900m commenced to over race. ENUNCIATION – Hampered on jumping away. Approaching the 150m became awkwardly placed at heels and had to be steadied.
