SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 6 - D. Smith +0.5kg (55kg)
 
Race 1: BENNETT & BENNETT QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1000 metres
 
VICTORY WIN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
VONCOSTENUFF – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Huxtable on return to scale reported that his mount felt awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SZABO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
GOLD REVOLUTION – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.
 
SALT LAKE BETTY – Raced wide throughout and hung in for the majority of the event.
 
 
 

 
Race 2: COASTLINE BMW Fillies & Mares RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1000 metres
 
IRISH MAUDIE – Had some difficulty securing clear running for a short distance passing the 300m.
 
KWIK AZ HELL – Jockey J. Bayliss was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
HEAVENWOOD – Over raced for a short distance passing the 800m.
 
RAINBOW DREAMS – Raced wide throughout.
 
SWANIC BOOM – Raced wide throughout.
 
CAPITAL MEG – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for clear running from approaching the 500m until approaching the 300m.
 
EVANESCENT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Race 3: HERVEY BAY HOTEL & RESORT Maiden Plate 1600 metres
 
Trainer J. Moore was found guilty of a charge under charge LR68(1) in that he failed to scratch PABALLO by the required time and was declared a late scratching at 7:55am. Mr Moore was subsequently fined the sum of $100.
 
AVARED – Raced wide throughout.
 
DAWN PARTY – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
FIT AND PROPER – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY – Eased when placed in restricted room approaching the 1400m when REVIEWS shifted in. A. Allen jockey of REVIEWS was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Over raced during the early stages and until leaving the 1100m. Held up for clear rounding the home turn.
 
LUCIFER THE CAT – Change of tactics – trainer V. Venkaya advised the gelding will be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages when the pace of the race slackened.
 
PAIRING – Raced wide throughout.
 
SON OF SATONO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start the gelding commenced to over race causing the saddle to shift forward. Jockey T. Banks reported that when his saddle shifted forward, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward to the lead and that the shifting placed him at a disadvantage until approaching the 100m at which point he was able to reposition the horses saddle.
 
PLEADEEL – Slow to begin.
 
VACATION LEAVE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
 
PROSPERINA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages when the pace of the race slackened. Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: CARGO TRANSPORT SYSTEMS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
AMERICAN PRESIDENT – Raced greenly throughout and hung out when rounding the home turn, before hanging in under pressure on entering the home straight. Trainer A. Simpson reported the horse would now be sent for a spell. Stewards advised Mr Simpson that the gelding must trial satisfactorily prior to racing again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
WINE NOT ROSES – Whilst being restrained in the early stages was inclined to lay in and lost ground near the 900m as a result. Near the 200m was disappointed for a run and obliged to alter course when racing between SIR CARTER and KEETA which shifted out under pressure. Post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer T Mackinnon was advised that the horse would not be permitted to start for 3 months and must gallop 1000m under the supervision of stewards prior to racing again.
 
CHIEF ARTIE – Slow to begin losing significant ground.
 
HOT PROFIT – Over raced for a short distance approaching the 800m.
 
SMASHINGPLATES – After passing the 1000m was restrained when racing to the inside of AMERICAN PRESIDENT.
 
BRAVE ENOUGH – Near the 700m steadied when placed in restricted room.
 
SILLY SALMON – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground.
 
Race 5: DOUBLE R GROUP OPEN 1000 metres
 
WEONA SMARTONE (NZ) – After passing the 700m, steadied when placed in restricted room for a short distance.
 
KING KLAUS – Jockey D. Smith was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
WINSIDE – Tightened for room when jumping away and lost ground. Steading from heels approaching the 600m.
 
EXTREMIST – Raced in restricted room leaving the 900m and had to be steadied. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Jockey B Spriggs was fined $500 pursuant to AR211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
 
YOU'LL BE MIST – Jockey L. Tarrant was fined $400 pursuant to AR211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
 
BURNISH GOLD – Held up for clear running approaching and passing the 200m.
 
Race 6: BATHERSBY LEGAL Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
 
HOUSTON ROCKET – Bumped heavily on jumping away and lost ground.
 
NEVER GIVE UP – Approaching the 1200m improved into restricted room and had to be steadied.
 
FINAL SELECTION – When the pace slackened approaching the 900m commenced to over race and was checked from heels before shifting wider on the track and raced wide until approaching the 600m.
 
ULTIMATE OUTCOME – Raced wide throughout.
 
POSSOVER – Jockey N. Thomas dropped his whip near the 300m. N. Thomas question regarding tactics adopted in settling back in the field during the early stages. Jockey Thomas explained he had been instructed that from the wide barrier to settle in the second half of the field. Trainer B. Mair was advised that in similar circumstances she would be expected to notify stewards of change of tactics and reminded of her obligation under AR100(1)(a).
 
TANTRUMS – Began extremely awkwardly and made heavy contact with HOUSTON ROCKET and ECHO HUNTER.
 
ECHO HUNTER – Bumped heavily on jumping away and lost ground.
 
Race 7: BRAD READ DESIGN GROUP Colts, Geldings & Entires RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 H 1000 metres
 
OUR ROCKETMAN – Had difficulty securing clear running during the early stages of the home straight and near the 300m shifted out to secure clear running making heavy contact with TAWFIQ STAR.
 
KING DICK – Tightened for room upon jumping away and lost ground.
 
POCKETROCKET – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground.
Raced wide throughout. Bumped heavily and forced wider near the 300m.
 
ONE IN ALL – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with POCKETROCKET. Raced wide throughout. Bumped heavily and forced wider near the 300m.
 
TAWFIQ STAR – Whilst weakening was bumped heavily, became awkward and shifted out near the 300m when OUR ROCKETMAN was directed out to obtain clear running. Stewards inquired into this incident and J Orman, the rider of OUR ROCKETMAN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a), after considering submissions on penalty stewards, taking into account the exemplary riding record of jockey Orman, issued jockey Orman with a reprimand. Stable representative indicated that in light of the performance, TAWFIQ STAR will now be sent for a spell.
