STEWARDS REPORT SPRINGSURE JOCKEY CLUB– SATURDAY, 17th SEPTEMBER, 2016 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING –GOOD (3) OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr. L CollinsClerk of Scales- StewardsJudge – M. Wells, D. Alpass, G LloydVeterinarian – M. DugganStarter- M. Donohoe GENERAL As the ambulance was late arriving on course, there was a delay to start of Race 1. Race 1: Dow Agroscience QTIS BM 60 Handicap- 1000 metres SUNSET SHOWDOWN- On leaving enclosure, dislodged the rider. On being recaptured, underwent a veterinary inspection and was cleared to start. However, when the gelding refused to proceed to the start in a timely manner, declared a late scratching at 1.34pm. On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies on this runner be refunded with the deduction of 16c Win and 14c place to be applied to successful wagers.Trainer G Teal was advised the gelding would be required to barrier trial prior to its next race start. SILENT GEE- Shortly after the start, commenced to buck and lost ground. Trainer C Garland was advised that the gelding would be required to pass a barrier trial prior to its next race start. CLAIR DU MONDE- On entering the straight, it was observed the saddle had shifted to the off side and placed the rider in difficulty in riding his mount out. RAHULA- Trainer reported the gelding had been galloped on the off side hind leg. Race 2: Glencore Rolleston Coal Class B Handicap- 1000 metres SPURTING COLOURS- Slow to begin. BAGGER TRICKS- Rider reported his mount was inclined to hang out on the home turn and failed to run on in the straight. GUSTAVUS VASSA- Explanation accepted with regard to late declaration of rider. Jumped in onto other runners at the start. CELLULOID- Taken in at the start. WONDERFUL WALLY- Hampered at the start. BULLETIN BELLE- In light of its previous engagement, Stewards inquired into the apparent improved performance. Trainer stated the instructions on both occasions were to place the mare under pressure with a view to lead. Following its previous performance, it had been attended to by a chiropractor, although only minor treatment was required. It had pulled up well, eaten well and maintained its training regime. For this race, the mare was back in class and the Blinkers had been removed. Stewards advised Mr Clem that is performance would be considered and its performance at Thangool would also be reviewed. Race 3: Dooleys Tavern and Motel Maiden Plate- 1100 metres LITTLE BOMBER- Hung out in the middle stages, lay out under pressure in the straight. PENNY A PITCH- App J. Brand was the rider of the mare due to no other available rider. HOLY CLANGER- Slow to begin. LADY STIRLING- Apprentice permitted to claim one kilogram. Given the handicap weight of 54kg (1 kg below the minimum weight), no action was taken. BLUBYTWO- Stewards will inquire into Apprentice D Evans’s use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. Following this race, App D Evans was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements and was stood down. A medical certificate of fitness will be required prior to his next riding engagements. Race 4: Central Highlands Auto BM 55 Handicap- 1400 metres TABITHA MAGIC- When no other rider was available, Stewards declared the mare a late scratching at 3.30pm. DESTINY’S DESIRE- Slow to begin. GREY PARIZ- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. DELAGOS- Raced wide throughout. Race 5: Colin Meek Memorial Springsure Cup Open Handicap- 1400 metres GARDER LA FOI- Slow to begin. Near 1200 metres, when racing keenly, shifted in when not clear of LANSDOWNE ROAD, which resented racing in restricted room, had to be checked. App Graham was advised to exercise more care. GOWER- Jockey S Sheargold was questioned with regard to his riding out of his mount over the concluding stages. Jockey Sheargold stated he had been struck by kickback on the track and stopped riding momentarily approaching the winning post. Due to no video footage of this incident, Stewards noted his explanation.
