QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT STANTHORPE JOCKEY CLUB STANTHORPE - SATURDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. TicknerStewards – W. Glass GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweight:Race 3, No. 12 HUSSON’S REVENGE – Jockey W. O’Connell +0.5kg (55.5kg) Race 1: DES DAY MEMORIAL QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) COUNTLESS KISSES – Began awkwardly. Commenced to buck for a considerable distance soon after the start and subsequently took no competitive part in the event thereafter. Trainer R. Pereira was advised that gelding would now be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. DUN WITH ROSES – Began very awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with THE BIGBANG THEORY. Continued to shift out soon after the start, resulting in THE BIGBANG THEORY and MICHANI EMPIRE having to steady off heels. Jockey N. Fazackerley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Raced keenly for some distance in the early stages. THE BIGBANG THEORY – Began awkwardly before being badly hampered between DUN WITH ROSES and MISHANI EMPIRE, both of which began very awkwardly. Steadied off the heels of DUN WITH ROSES soon after the start when that runner continued to shift out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MISHANI REACTOR – Began awkwardly. SIDLED – Reared prior to the start being effected resulting in its forelegs becoming cast in the barriers for a significant period. The gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:31pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:31pm: 35 cents for the win22 cents for the place Trainer M. Lakey was subsequently advised that gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. BAMBINO DI VINO – Late scratching at 12:15 pm due to transport difficulties. As the betting markets for the event had been opened on course, prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on the filly to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply to all successful wagers placed prior to 12:15pm: 6 cents for the win7 cents for the place MISHANI EMPIRE – Began very awkwardly, before being bumped heavily when THORMENDOUS MISS shifted in. Obliged to ease off heels soon after the start when DUN WITH ROSES shifted out. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. POLLY PRINCESS - Late scratching at 12:15 pm due to transport difficulties. Carried wider soon after the start when DUN WITH ROSES shifted out. SNAKESKIN – Jockey L. McCoy could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. LEROY LION – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages proving somewhat difficult to ride out. Race 2: ENSBEY ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP (1000m) LET’S DANCE JANDY – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving somewhat difficult to ride out. ROCONONO – Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. JUST FOR PLEASURE – Blundered leaving the 700m when making the turn awkwardly. ARABIAN FOX – Raced wide and without cover until the 700m. PRINCE OF MARAKESH – Began awkwardly. Apprentice I. Jessop could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off-foreleg consistent with being galloped on. POLYGAL – Laid in away from LET’S DANCE JANDY for some distance passing the 800m. Obliged to be shifted out from the heels of LET’S DANCE JANDY which was laying in leaving the 200m to obtain clear running. EASY COME – Slow to begin. Improved onto the heels of JUST FOR PLEASURE leaving the 700m and obliged to be steadied and shifted out. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. REDVEDEV (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Crowded soon after the start between runners and lost ground. Apprentice E. Molloy was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of AR132(6)(c) regarding her whip use when out of contention. Race 3: QUEENSLAND COUNTRY BANK COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP (1000m) Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards and Jockey H. Richardson to view footage of the start in relation to I AM FEARLESS. Once satisfied that the gelding’s poor start was directly attributable to its racing manners, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. OFFICE JIM – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Bumped approaching the 100m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey L. Tilley advised that the wide run and heavy weight impost proved detrimental to the gelding’s finishing efforts. Trainer P. Webster concurred with the opinion of Jockey Tilley. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. JACK BE LUCKY – Apprentice L. Sykes was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR131(b), in that he did fail to ride his mount out fully to the finish, which in the Stewards’ opinion, may have compromised the gelding’s chances of finishing fourth. Apprentice Sykes was subsequently fined $200. In assessing penalty, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that his actions had fully prejudiced the gelding finishing in fourth position, however, were of the opinion that his vigour was far below the expected standard over the final two strides of the event. Apprentice Sykes was advised of his right to an appeal. SKYFORGER – Began only fairly. MILL ROSSA – Began awkwardly. Held-up for clear running for some distance passing the 200m. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed on the heels of JACK BE LUCKY. HIRAISHIN – Bumped approaching the 100m. I AM FEARLESS – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected before beginning very awkwardly and shifted out losing considerable ground. Trainer G. Richardson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. SMILING ZAC (NZ) – Held-up for clear running for some distance passing the 200m. Shifted out leaving the 50m when not fully clear of BOSTON CITY which was obliged to momentarily ease. Apprentice D. Bennett was advised to exercise greater care. COLPO DI TAMBURO – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BOSTON CITY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Obliged to momentarily ease leaving the 50m when SMILING ZAC shifted out. Race 4: STANTHORPE MITRE 10 STANTHORPE CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1400m) The start of this race was delayed when the gear of Jockey N. Fazackerley (POWERFUL EAGLE) was damaged when the gelding contacted the barriers whilst being loaded which subsequently required rectification. Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view footage of the start in relation to EXPECTANT. Once satisfied that the gelding’s poor start was directly attributable to its barrier manners, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. CAPTAIN HOOK – Over-raced on the heels of POWERFUL EAGLE for some distance leaving the 100m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Checked off the heels of I PROMISE YOU leaving the 700m when tightened onto the running rail. EXPECTANT – Slow to begin (5L). Trainer J. Thomas was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted the lengthy period that the start had been delayed and the time in which horses had been loaded in the barriers. I PROMISE YOU – Began only fairly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice C. Krahnen was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 700m, she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CAPTAIN HOOK, which was obliged to check and lost its rightful running. Apprentice Krahnen’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing Monday, 28 October 2024 and to conclude Tuesday, 5 November 2024, on which day she may ride. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the carelessness to be in the low range, her status as an apprentice and record in relation to the rule. Apprentice Krahnen was advised of her rights to an appeal. POWERFUL EAGLE – Proved difficult to load. Trainer S. Hardy was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. QUEST OF QUESTS – Late scratching at 12:15pm due to transport difficulties. FLASH ZARIZ – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. HE’S A DEVIL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Became awkwardly placed on the heels of CAPTAIN HOOK over the concluding stages. HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. Metcalfe advised that the gelding travelled well until the home-turn, however proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. MISHANI PERSUASION – Began awkwardly. LITTLE VAIN – Raced wide and without cover until the 900m when able to obtain a position in the lead. Race 5: MJ CLEANERS/ MCEVOY FAMILY BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1200m) SUISSE SCANDAL (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice V. Soulsby advised in her opinion, the gelding wasn’t suited by the heavy weight impost it had been required to carry. RICHUNCLEMONEYBAGS – Raced keenly in the early stages. TRUE PATRIOT – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly in the early stages. LUCKY SHAM (NZ) – Began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LYNCHED before badly crowding that runner. LYNCHED – Began only fairly before being badly hampered between runners, bumped and lost ground. Jockey N. Fazackerley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(i) for using his whip on consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. ROTHERO ESSGEE – Laid out and bumped CINTIA leaving the 1000m. CINTIA – Bumped leaving the 1000m when ROTHERO ESSGEE laid out. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter. DOLLY DISCO – Bumped on jumping before being crowded between runners. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CONTESSA NILE – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed on the heels of ROTHERO ESSGEE. KOHIKO – Bumped heavily soon after the start when LYNCHED was crowded between runners and became unbalanced. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
