RACE 1: B & R WEBSTER BENCHMARK 50 H'CAP – 100M

OUR BOY DANNY and COVER UP were both declared late scratching’s due to no rider being available.

PRINCE OF PEACE- Made contact with the barrier gate on jumping away and then raced wide throughout.

I GOT TRIX- Began awkwardly.

DON’T SIOUX ME- Slow into stride after being crowded for room at the start.

COCONUT BAY- Held up approaching the home turn.

On returning to scale apprentice L Attard reported his mount floundered and dipped badly in a sandy section of the track, close to the running rail, approximately 80m past the winning post. The area was subsequently inspected by Stewards and riders where it was agreed that the riders would be able to avoid this area on pulling up in future races. However, it was agreed by all parties that as race 3, the 1650m event, would require the runners to race over this section of track that it would be unsafe for racing. After consultation with the Trainers with runners in that event and club officials, it was decided that race 3 would be shortened in distance to 1400m.

RACE 2: LANDMARK/MACKENZIE HOME TIMBER AND HARDWRE OPEN H'CAP – 1200M
CWMBRAN- Inspected by the Veterinarian on arrival at the barriers at the request of the rider who reported the horse did not feel free in its action during the preliminary. No abnormalities were detected and the horse was cleared to race. CWMBRAN finished last in the event and was again inspected by the Veterinarian with no abnormalities detected other than the loss of an off fore plate.

MORE OF THE ZAIM- Lost an off-fore plate shortly after the start.

WRITTENINTHERAIN- Raced wide for the majority of the event.

SMOOTH TALKER- Stewards questioned App B Nothdurft and Trainer D Baker regarding the disappointing performance. Apprentice Nothdurft advised that the gelding was forced to race back in the field and resented the kickback throughout the event. He added for this reason he shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn but the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Mr Baker also expressed disappointment with the performance however added that the horse had previously raced poorly on Sand and Dirt tracks and will now look to avoid racing the gelding on these surfaces in the future. Apprentice Nothdurft was reprimanded for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.

RACE 3: TITAN AG/ REARDON FARMS TALWOOD CUP BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP – 1400M

TOUCAN UKELELE- Slow to begin.

CASINO EXPRESS- Slow to begin and raced wide during the early stages of the event.

VIRTUITY- Stewards questioned Jockey M O’BRIEN in relation to her riding in the home straight. Jockey O’Brien advised Stewards that rounding the home turn she was able to secure clear running and in the early stages of the home straight used her whip on the horse on several occasions. Jockey O’Brien added that from this point she then commenced to ride the horse out in a strong hands and heels manner for the remainder of the event as she felt the horse had responded better to this form of riding rather than when struck with the whip in the early stages of the straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
RACE 4:MCGREGOR GOURLAY CLASS B H'CAP – 1400M

KEL’S SHADOW- Hung out badly at the 1200m.

DESTINY’S DESIRE- Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 1200m.

YOURS TRUTHFULLY- Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PEGGY LEIGH- Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

RACE 5: TALWOOD STORE QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BLUBYTWO- Tightened for room at the start.

PIRELLI PRINCESS- Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 800m.

SPIRIT OF JAZZ- Hung out in the early stages.

SHELLYS DREAM- Raced wide rounding the home turn.

FUSCUS- Slow to begin losing considerable ground, and then resented racing in the kickback.
