GENERAL
Stewards accepted trainer T Chambers explanation for the late scratching of MISS PIPER in race one after receiving late notice of the prevailing track conditions.
Due to the abandonment of an interstate meeting the race start times were amended as follows:
Race 1 – 12:55pm
Race 2 – 1:35pm
Race 3 – 2:10pm
Race 4 – 2:45pm
Race 5 – 3:20pm
Race 6 – 3:55pm
Race 7 – 4:35pm
Prior to the first race Stewards inspected the track together with a delegation of jockeys. All parties were satisfied the track was suitable for racing and the meeting commenced as scheduled.
Race 1: ST JOEY'S FAMILY DAY JULY 16 Maiden Plate 800 metres
TUANAKI CREEK – The start of the event was delayed when TUANAKI CREEK refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 12:59pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the gelding be refunded with the following deductions:
1st – 7 cents win (FINEST ACT), 10c place (FINEST ACT)
2nd – 6 cents place (SHE’S OUT THERE)
3rd – 10 cents place (LADY CONAVARO)
Trainer B Phillips was advised that TUANAKI CREEK would be required to complete a satisfactory trial prior to its next future race start.
BREAKER BREAKER – Raced wide with cover throughout the event.
MS MINNELLI – Raced wide without cover throughout.
PODDY'S GRACE – Slow to begin.
TISAYAC – Raced wide early stages.
CANTOR – Jumped away awkwardly before losing ground settling at the back of the field. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
LAST LAUGH – Slow to begin.
SHE'S OUT THERE – Rider N. Thomas reported that his mount was inclined to lay out over the concluding stages of the event. He further stated he had difficulty with his mount upon pulling up following the race.
Following the running of Race one Jockey’s expressed concern with the safety of the track after two steady rain showers passed after the initial track inspection. The Jockey’s that rode in race one were unanimous they had safety concerns and they were unable to ride in a fully competitive manner. The remainder of the meeting was subsequently abandoned by Stewards at 1.12pm.
