QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT THANGOOL RACE CLUB THANGOOL – 26, JANUARY 2025 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman – H GillettStewards – S Larkins, E Tickner SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTROCKHAMPTON 23/01/24 – Race 8:ELLA TE AMA – Apprentice K Lenton pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 16 occasions throughout the event, with 9 of these being prior to the 100m. Apprentice Lenton’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, commencing midnight 1st of February 2025 up to and including 10th of February 2025. Apprentice Lenton was advised of her rights to an appeal. GENERAL Today’s race meeting was conducted under QRIC’s caring for racing animals in extreme heat policy. Following a track inspection stewards upgraded the track to a Good 4 at 10:35am. As apprentice J Busuttin was not riding at today’s meeting due to injury, stewards permitted replacements as per the stewards’ race-day summary. Apprentice Busuttin was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. As apprentice J Devine was unable to claim her full allowance in race 1 and 3 and was subsequently replaced as per the race day summary. Ms Devine was fined $200 under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowances. When considering penalty, stewards were mindful of Ms Devine’s record and her guilty plea. Trainer R Williams was questioned in relation to the late declaration of riders on his runners BEYOND STAR (NZ) & MISHANI I AM. Stewards accepted the explanation, however reminded Mr Williams of his requirements under LR67(1) in relation to late declarations. Following a request from the Thangool Race Club and with due consultation with all parties, due to the sultry conditions, the program was pushed forward and run on a more restricted time frame. RACE 1: THANGOOL POST OFFICE & RAILWAY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (800 METRES) COBBO – Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. EXREMAARTY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight. NO BETTER AFFAIRE – Slow to begin. BORNEO – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. CLOCKS TICKING – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of tying up. Trainer D Schultz was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. QUARTERSHARE – Bumping on jumping by SASSY DIVA. CRAIGLEA THERA – Jumped outwards at the start. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in rounding the home turn. SASSY DIVA – Began awkwardly and bumped QUARTERSHARE and a result was slow to begin. When questioned in relation to the seemingly poor performance, jockey W Satherley stated that after beginning only fairly, he was unable to regain the lost ground due to the fast tempo set throughout the event. RACE 2: VICTORY CAFÉ / WEBB STORE / LENEHAM MOTORS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (800 METRES) The running of this race was marginally delayed when the veterinarian was attending to a runner from the previous event and when a number of runners proved difficult to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards heard a protest from connections of third-placegetter apprentice M. Apel (KAI MONDO) alleging interference against second-placegetter CRAIGLEA BRONTE (apprentice K. Lenton) on the home-turn. After considering evidence of both parties, available replays, stewards established that CRAIGLEA BRONTE hung-out noticeably rounding the home-turn and in the early part of the home straight, carrying KAI MONDO significantly wider on the track and as a result momentarily check her mount. When considering the margin of a half neck, and the distance in which KAI MONDO was impeded, stewards could be comfortably satisfied that KAI MONDO would have finished in advance of CRAIGLEA BRONTE and subsequently upheld the protest and amended the placings to 8,2,5,7 and declared correct weight on the judges’ numbers. LITTLE FREDDY – Bumped on jumping by BANKSOFBARCOO. Raced wide throughout. KAI MONDO – Began awkwardly. Carried wider for some distance rounding the home-turn and in the early part of the home straight when CRAIGLEA BRONTE hung-out and had to momentarily be checked. Raced wide throughout. MISHANI I AM – Reared on jumping before being slow to begin. CRAIGLEA BRONTE – Jumped out at the start momentarily impeding BOOM SIGHT. Hung-out noticeably rounding the home-turn and in the early part of the home straight carrying KAI MONDO wider. Trainer K. Johnston was advised that the mare would be required to trial to stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again. WINDORAH – Blundered soon after the start. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BOOM SIGHT – Trainer K Hanson was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly for being difficult to load. Bounded on jumping before being impeded by CRAIGLEA BRONTE and subsequently slow into stride. Raced keenly in the middle stages. DREAMDROP – Laid in rounding the home-turn before laying out under pressure in the home straight. FRUITCUP – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SHARALANDA – Jumped out at the start. Raced wide throughout. BANKSOFTHEBARCOO – Jumped out at the start and bumped LITTLE FREDDY. Raced wide throughout. READY TO RHYME – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not raced in an extended period and was cleared to start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. RACE 3: KITTY SHEAN'S HOTEL / WOOD & BALDWIN BUILDERS CLASS B HANDICAP (1075 METRES) Correct weight was delayed allowing connections of OUR BERLINETTA to view the photo for first. Once satisfied that a margin was present, correct weight was declared on the judges’ numbers. CARRARA KING – Raced wide in the early stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R Silvera Olivera was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(b) for using his whip above shoulder height. ASTRA WALLY – Shifted out off heels of BEN STARS to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. OUR BERLINETTA – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. DIAMOND MONEY – Steadied when impeded soon after the start when MASALI RAFFA shifted out. MASALI RAFFA – Jumped out abruptly at the start and impeded DIAMOND MONEY and INHISTIME both of which were obliged to steady. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BEN STARS – Raced wide in the early stages. RADIANT ROMANCE – Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer D Gardiner advised that the mare, which was first-up for the preparation had performed well when fresh previously and was better suited on grass surfaces. He added its recent form had been predominately on sand tracks, which in his opinion, RADIANT ROMANCE, may not have appreciated. INHISTIME – Steadied when impeded soon after the start. RACE 4: CALLIDE VALLEY TYRES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200 METRES) Correct weight was delayed for allowing connections of STAR GAMBLE to view the photo finish. Once satisfied a margin was present, correct weight was declared on the judges’ numbers. FREE STATE – Began awkwardly. STAR GAMBLE – Began awkwardly. OLIGARCHY – When asked to comment on the performance, trainer R Williams stated he was disappointed in the performance and could offer no explanation for the poor performance. advised A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. HEAT – Brushed the running rail near the 1000m when racing in restricted room. Raced ungenerously through the middle stages. Near the 300m, obliged to shift wider to avoid the heels of the tiring OLIGARCHY. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CAVENTE – Slow into stride. CRAIGLEA ETNA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of its rider and was found to be lame in the left hind and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 2:02pm. Stewards ordered all monies invested on the mare prior to 2:02pm to be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply: 12 cents for the win 1st place (CAVENTE)11 cents for the place 1st place (CAVENTE)11 cents for the place 2nd (BARNEY RABBLE)11 cents for the place 3rd (STAR GAMBLE) Trainer K Johnston was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare racing again. LADY MASQUERADE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CRAIGLEA LA VIE – Raced in restricted room for some distance leaving the 100m. ROSE OF TAORMINA – Stood significantly flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground taking no competitive part in the event. Given the mare’s recent poor history, trainer T Potter was advised that ROSE OF TAORMINA would now be required to trial on two consecutive occasions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5: CALLIDE VALLEY TOYOTA BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1400 METRES) ALL THE SHOPS – Hung-out near the 900m when racing keenly. When asked to comment on the performance, trainer G Bell expressed disappointment with the performance, and stated that connections would now consider the immediate racing future of the gelding. Apprentice C Stuart was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(c) for using his whip when out of contention. KEFALONIA – Raced wide throughout. LADY TOWNSON (NZ) – Raced wide throughout. When questioned in relation to the apparent improved performance, trainer D Rideout stated that the horse was having its second start for his stable, and had benefitted from a lengthy spell prior to this preparation. He further added that the mare had been working well in recent weeks, including winning a recent jump-out, and he had supported the mare with bookmakers expecting a forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation. MERLOMANN – Raced wide throughout. SADDLES – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. NATIVE BEE – When no apprentices were available, stewards permitted Jockey W Satherley to be declared the replacement rider. Momentarily tightened soon after the start when CHILL OUT MISS shifted ground. GIGI FILLE – Momentarily steadied rounding the home-turn when improving onto the heels of SOFTEN IT UP. Held-up for clear racing room until 150m. SHEKINAH – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1000m improved onto the heels of VICTORY BEANS and had to be restrained. When asked to comment on the performance, trainer G Bell expressed disappointment with the performance, and stated that connections would now consider the immediate racing future of the mare. CHILL OUT MISS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Rockhampton on Thursday, 23 January 2025 and was cleared to start. Jumped in at the start, momentarily tightening NATIVE BEE. Dipped near the 900m.
