Cairns was reprimanded under A.R. 117(3) for removing the gelding from the course prior to the prescribed time. Stewards took into account Ms Cairns’ exemplary record in regard to the rule. Ms Cairns added that a veterinary examination of the gelding, including the results of an endoscopic analysis, did not reveal any abnormalities.------------Race 1: Buffering Sold at March Yearling Sale Open Handicap - 1200 metres1st – GREEN ANCHOR 2nd – DAZZLE ON 3rd – WISHFUL 4th – HOTEL PARADISO IMBOSTERIA – Slow to begin.DAZZLE ON – Raced keenly in the middle stages.When questioned regarding her riding of WISHFUL, and in particular whether there was an opportunity to improve her position approaching the home turn, Apprentice C. Jokic said that she had been instructed to ride the mare where it was comfortable, however not to contest the lead if the tempo was solid. She stated that in her opinion the leader, GREEN ANCHOR (Apprentice R. Payne), had gone hard in front and she envisaged that gelding would weaken, and for that reason she desisted from riding her mount along rounding the home turn, and elected to let it straighten and balance up before placing it under full pressure. Apprentice Jokic concurred with the views of the stewards that she had erred by not placing her mount under pressure earlier than she had on this occasion.Race 2: Magic Millions March Yearling Sale Maiden Handicap - 1300 Metres1st – HAMUNAPTRA 2nd - ZEDAHEEL 3rd – HIDDEN DAISY 4th – DEVASTATING RHYTHMTHE HURICANE – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore in front. Stable representative P. Rowe was told that he must furnish a veterinary certificate before the gelding will be permitted to race again.GABONIA – Slow to begin.HIDDEN DAISY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rounding the turn near the 600 metres was inclined to lay out and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on heels.DEVASTATING RHYTHM – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. FOREST MAGIC – Jockey P. Cullen reported that his mount was inclined to lay out from the 600 metres, weakened shortly after straightening and was disappointing. Jockey Cullen was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the gelding in 2 consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.Jockey J. Long was fined $100 under A.R. 137A for using the whip on ZEDAHEEL on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres, with a number of them being in consecutive strides.Race 3: Townsville Vet Clinic QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap - 1000 metres 1st – CRAIGLEA AMITY 2nd – CRAIGLEA BARINA 3rd – CRAIGLEA PUMA 4th – CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY ALBERT THE ROCKET – When questioned regarding the performance of the colt, Apprentice M. Haley said that after being slow to begin his mount never travelled comfortably at any stage, and failed to respond to his urgings throughout and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the colt did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann said that it was now his intention to have the colt gelded.Race 4: J & D Thoroughbreds – SEA ZULU Class 1 Handicap – 1000 metres1st – LILLY KAREENA 2nd – HIDDEN ABILITY 3rd – KENNYNOPAS 4th – TAXEDTOTHEHILT HIDDEN ABILITY – Jockey A. Spinks reported that the gelding began awkwardly with its head up, shifted out abruptly and lost ground, then in the early stages was reluctant to stretch out. Trainer B. Kenning said that it is now his intention to experiment with the horse’s approved gear.KENNYNOPAS – Was fractious in the barriers. Was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Shifted out at the start and made contact with another runner.GRAVETTIAN – Bumped at the start.Approaching the 600 metres TAXEDTOTHEHILT (Apprentice G. Mitchell) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PERDANERITE (Jockey P. Cullen), which shifted in when not quite clear. COBUNGRA BOY (Jockey D. Hayse) , which was following, was momentarily hampered. Jockey P. Cullen was told to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Passing the 200 metres Apprentice G. Mitchell accidentally dropped her whip.LILLY KAREENA – Lost its off hind plate in running.FLYING IGGY – Raced wide without cover throughout. Race 5: Canadian Club & Dry BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres 1st – MODEL TO EXCEED 2nd – HOYWEDGE 3rd – MIDNIGHT SONG 4th – BERNICATTI BERNICATTI – Began awkwardly. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the home straight, when placed under pressure. Passing the 100 metres Apprentice R. Payne accidentally dropped her whip.HOYWEDGE – Slow to begin, then was crowded for room shortly thereafter.MIDNIGHT SONG – Shifted in abruptly at the start.DEL PALIO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.ALL ROSIE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Apprentice G. Mitchell explained that she had been instructed to lead on the gelding, in accordance with its established racing pattern. She said that after beginning well she was able to obtain the lead, and although another runner improved to her outside, the gelding travelled comfortably, however was beaten as far out as the 600 metres. Apprentice Mitchell added that in her opinion the gelding performs better over shorter distances. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G. Farrell concurred with the view of the rider that the gelding performs better over shorter distances and informed stewards that he will attempt to restrict the gelding to 1000 metre races and will report back in the days subsequent. REASONABEEL – Had difficulty obtaining clear running for some distance in the early part of the home straight.ROAD FOX – When questioned Jockey W. D’Avila said that he had been instructed to lead. He stated that after being slow to begin he rode his mount hard in the early stages, from its wide barrier, in an attempt to comply with those instructions. He added that after obtaining the lead his mount still raced keenly. Race 6: Global Welding Supplies BenchMark 65 Handicap– 1400 metres1st – TRY ME DOL 2nd – SPIRITED SAINT 3rd – PRETTY VACANT 4th – PRESS PLAY PRESS PLAY – Began awkwardly.SPIRITED SAINT – Buffeted at the start. Jockey F. Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137A in that he used the whip on the gelding on 12 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 9 of which were in consecutive strides. Jockey Edwards’ licence to ride in races was suspended under A.R. 137A for a period covering 1 week, to commence at midnight on 6th February, up to and including Saturday 13th February. Stewards took into account his poor record in relation to the rule.INSIDE PAGE – On jumping shifted out and made contact with another runner. CARLINO’S WAY - Bumped at the start.PRETTY VACANT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. TRY ME DOL – Jockey D. Simmons was fined $100 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the mare on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 3 more times than is permitted under the rule.AMERICAN HUSSLER – When questioned Apprentice M. Haley said that from the wide barrier he rode his mount along in the early stages to take up a forward position, however the gelding over-raced and when in the lead refused to settle. He attributed this to the gelding weakening. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J.
