Race 1: Happy Easter from the TTC QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – TYZONE 2nd – LIKER 3rd – OURBOYBYRON 4th – CRAIGLEA AMITY
CRAIGLEA AMITY – Raced keenly in the early stages. In the early part of the home straight was inclined to lay in.
MUST BE OBEYED – Passing the 600 metres brushed the running rail.
TYZONE – Over the concluding stages was inclined to lay in.
LIKER – Shortly after straightening shifted out under pressure.
Race 2: SKY Racing Open Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – ISA TALA 2nd - MAURIZIO 3rd – CHINABOB 4th – CHATEAU DETTORI
PRINCELY – The explanation tendered for the late declaration of Apprentice Z. White as rider of the gelding was accepted.
RAPT IN RUMBA – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice K. Aho said that she had been instructed to lead on the gelding and dictate terms in front, however when another runner improved to her inside she was unable to establish a lead. She said that even allowing for this, in her opinion the gelding was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
MAURIZIO - When questioned regarding her riding, Apprentice C. Jokic explained that her mount travelled comfortably in a favourable position, however shortly after straightening she attempted to shift out and obtain clear running, but was disappointed resulting in her having to shift back to the inside, where she was again held up when another runner shifted in, and she did not obtain clear running until inside the final 150 metres.
Stewards questioned Apprentice Z. White, in the presence of her master Mr T. Cook, in regard to her ride on PRINCELY. Apprentice White explained that she had been instructed to ride the gelding at the tail of the field, in accordance with its established racing pattern, and not to make use of her mount until well into the home straight, as PRINCELY has only a short sprint. Trainer T. Cook confirmed the instructions issued, however was surprised that the gelding was positioned as far back as it was, some 6 lengths from the second-last horse. When asked why she did not attempt to improve her position when travelling some distance from the second-last horse, she said that she refrained from doing this as she was of the belief that the horse would over-race. When questioned in relation to her vigour in the home straight, Apprentice White said that the gelding began to improve rounding the home turn, and for this reason she elected to ride her mount hand and heels only. In the opinion of stewards Apprentice White erred in the early stages by not attempting to improve her position, and that her lack of vigour in the straight was of concern. Bearing in mind Apprentice White’s relative inexperience, this being her first provincial race ride, stewards acting under the provisions of A.R 92A(2), referred her ride to the Riders Advisory Panel on a date to be determined.
Race 3: Emanate Legal Services Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – OUR LITTLE MIRACLE 2nd – I AM BRUSE 3rd – AMBER’S GIRL 4th – PANDAMAN
SEABEAU – Bounded in the air at the start. Approaching the 100 metres shifted in under pressure, despite the efforts of its rider.
CHAMPAGNE KITTEN – Slow to begin, then was crowded for room shortly afterwards.
GABONIA – Slow to begin, then buffeted between runners.
DRAGON TALE – Crowded for room at the start.
OUR LITTLE MIRACLE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
PANDAMAN – Approaching the 100 metres Jockey N. Day accidentally dropped his whip.
HIDDEN DAISY – Hampered near the 100 metres.
Approaching the home turn PANDAMAN (Jockey N. Day), which was racing keenly, improved onto the heels of GOLD CLAIM (Apprentice M. Kai), shifted in abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, and crowded HIDDEN DAISY (Apprentice C. Jokic) in onto the running rail, had to be severely checked and lost ground. CUT ‘N’ POLISH (Jockey N. Yadi), which was following, had to be checked, shifted out abruptly and hampered DRAGON TALE (Jockey J. Felix).
Race 4: Townsville Window & Screens Class 3 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – COVENTRY 2nd – SAIL THE STARS 3rd – DAMKY 4th – JORDAN
COVENTRY – Bumped at the start. On returning to scale Jockey D. Simmons complained of pain in the vicinity of his neck. Jockey Simmons was examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil his engagements.
DAMKY – Over-raced when the pace slowed in the early stages, and after being caught wide was allowed to stride forward.
JORDAN – Raced keenly in the early stages when the pace was slow.
BLANCHARD BLOOM – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
PULSAR – Raced in restricted room in the early part of the straight, was again held up on heels over the final 100 metres and went to the finish without being fully tested.
Jockey M. Morris pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137a) in that rounding the turn near the 900 metres he allowed STARMOSA to shift in when not clear of COVENTRY (Jockey D. Simmons), which clipped the heels of that runner, blundered and lost ground. Jockey Morris’s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight on 2nd April 2016, up to and including midnight on 11th April 2016.
Race 5: Classic Coffee Company Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres

HAKKASAN – The start was delayed when the tongue-tie on the mare had to be re-fitted in the enclosure.
ORCHESTRAL PRINCE – In the early stages was inclined to race with its head up.
LOVELY WITCH – Trainer Mrs C. Hurle advised stewards that, following its disappointing performance, the mare will now be retired from racing.
PHANTOM SOX – Jockey N. Yadi was fined $100 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 2 more than is permitted under the rule.
REMOS – Inside the final 50 metres had to be steadied to avoid heels.
Race 6: Byrnes Holdings Class 6 Plate - 1200 metres
1st – RIVARIVA 2nd – LOVER OF LIFE 3rd – WRITTEN INTENT 4th – ZINDZELA
KING COBIA – Prior to the race connections advised stewards that the gelding would lead, if possible. Public announcements were made to that effect. The gelding settled in a handy position after being ridden hard early.
ZINDZELA – Rounding the turn near the 900 metres was inclined to race keenly and had to be steadied when momentarily crowded for room.
BOBCAT – When questioned regarding the gelding racing back in the field, Jockey G. Kliese said that from its wide draw and when runners to the inside showed superior speed, he elected to restrain his mount and take up a position at the tail of the field closer to the running rail, where it travelled comfortably throughout.
TOUCH OF ELEGANCE – On returning to scale Apprentice M. Haley reported that his mount felt awkward in its action in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J. O’Dea later reported that the mare had bled from both nostrils. Trainer J. O’Dea was advised that, as this was the first time the mare had bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53 and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward. Mr O’Dea advised stewards that the mare will now be retired from racing.
Race 7: She Creative Hair BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – PURRFECT TYCOON 2nd – KENNYNOPAS 3rd – BLAZING ALLY 4th - DEE MINISHING
KENNYNOPAS – Stood flat-footed and missed the start (2 lengths).
PURRFECT TYCOON – Crowded for room at the start. Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
FLYING IGGY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with another runner.
FILLE VILAINE – Bumped at the start.
VO TREASURE – Bumped at the start. Stewards questioned Apprentice M. Kai regarding his riding of the gelding. He said that he had been instructed to ride the gelding midfield with cover. He added that approaching the 600 metres his mount raced keenly and improved onto the heels of the eventual winner and shifted out, resulting in him then having to sustain a 4-wide run without cover from the 600 metres. Apprentice Kai concurred with stewards that he would have been better served by attempting to remain racing on the back of the winner, rather than place too much effort on his mount, and improve from that point.
MODEL TO EXCEED – Raced fiercely in the early stages and refused to settle.
BLAZING ALLY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
