Wilson was unable to fulfil his engagement for CORONATION JOURNEY for personal reasons, Jockey M. Morris was substituted. The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice S. Wiseman, the rider of LOCEANO which finished 3rd, against ALAKRIS (Jockey N. Day) being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 100 metres. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official video films and taking into account their own observations, stewards established that inside the final 100 metres LOCEANO had to be checked when crowded for room between ALAKRIS which sifted out under pressure and MOUNTAIN VIEW (Jockey F. Edwards) which shifted in. As stewards were unable to attribute the incident solely to ALAKRIS and bearing in mind the margin of a length between the two runners at the finish and the manner in which both horses ran to the finish, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, LOCEANO would have beaten ALAKRIS home. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey Day and Jockey Edwards were reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten sooner than they did on this occasion.FIELDS OF TUSCANY – Bumped at the start.ETRANGERE – Bumped with another runner at the start.Passing the 1300 metres CRACOW (Apprentice M. For some distance after this CRACOW raced in restricted room to the inside of MOUNTAIN VIEW, and had to be checked and lost its rightful running near the 1100 metres when that runner shifted in marginally.AUGUSTE – Raced wide without cover throughout.CRACOW – Approaching the 600 metres had to be steadied when held up behind another runner. Race 7: Pat Molloy Jewellers Class 2 Handicap – 1300 metres1st – CORONATION JOURNEY 2nd – HELOW TUCKER 3rd – ALAWA 4th – KAYLEE CORONATION JOURNEY – Slow to begin.THE HANKINATOR – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, Jockey B. Thomson explained that she had been instructed to lead. She said that after beginning only fairly, she rode her mount vigorously in the early stages to comply with her instructions. She added that after obtaining the lead the gelding then commenced to over-race and refused to settle and as a result was left without a finishing effort and weakened noticeably. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Jockey B. Thomson concurred with stewards in that she should have made a greater effort to restrain her mount once in the lead.STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees Fines RACE 5: Jockey B.
