LATE RIDING CHANGES

When Apprentice C. Jokic was unable to fulfil her engagements due to transport difficulties, and Jockey D. Hayse was injured and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Hayse will be advised that he must provide a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

1st – MISHANI PILOT 2nd – ONE FOR THE MONEY 3rd – VAUNTING 4th – UNI

The start of the race was rescheduled to 12.05 p.m. due to a flight carrying a number of jockeys and officials being delayed.

ULTRA RED – Slow to begin.

NIC’S DRAGON – Began awkwardly, resulting in Apprentice M. Haley becoming unbalanced in the saddle.

VLADIMIR – Raced very fiercely in the early stages, refused to settle and as a result was caught 3 wide with no cover throughout.

RYLEE’S SAGA – When questioned regarding the poor performance Apprentice Payne said that her mount travelled well in a favourable position throughout, however after straightening was shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running, however failed to respond and was disappointing.

Race 2: Blinds for you Ladies Raceday Sat 23 July BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1609 metres
1st – CORONATION JOURNEY 2nd - CARLSON’S FELT 3rd – RESTART MY HEART 4th – DESERT GAMBLER

CRAIGLEA FOCUS – Was kicked by another runner whilst parading behind the barriers. The mare was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon. Acting on her advice stewards ordered the late scratching of the mare, at 12.30 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on CRAIGLEA FOCUS be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

32¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner CORONATION JOURNEY
21¢ in the dollar for the place, for the winner, CORONATION JOURNEY
25¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, CARLSON’S FELT
25¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, RESTART MY HEART

Race 3: The Ville Classic Race Day Sat 16 July Class 3 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – FIRA 2nd – MISHANI CENTURION 3rd – UNION JUKEBOX 4th - DASH OF BLACK


MY GIRL CHARLIE – Late scratching, at 12.18 p.m., by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.

DEE MINISHING – Stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground. Shortly after straightening was momentarily inconvenienced. Trainer B. Kenning said that the horse will now leave his stable. Notwithstanding that advice, he was told that prior to the mare returning to racing it must perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

When the pace slowed near the 1200 metres UNION JUKEBOX (Jockey P. Cullen), LEAVE PASS (Jockey G. Kliese), MISHANI CENTURION (Jockey D. Simmons) and DEE MINISHING (Apprentice R. Payne) all commenced to over-race.

Race 4: Melissa Morris Hens Day Out Maiden Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – BATON ROUGE 2nd – MITCHY’S INSTINCT 3rd – PERDANERITE 4th – ROBABANK

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’ – Slow to begin.

BRED TO RULE – Began awkwardly, then knuckled shortly afterwards.

ROBABANK – At the start shifted out and made contact with another runner.

BATON ROUGE – Was bumped at the start.

JOYAU DE LA MER – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

PERDANERITE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight, then approaching the 200 metres was disappointed for a run, had to be steadied and shifted back to the inside. However, was again disappointed and did not obtain clear running until the 100 metres.

Jockey K. Aho pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that rounding the turn near the 400 metres she allowed HURAI to shift in when insufficiently clear of ROBABANK (Jockey S. Wilson), which had to be steadied and was carried inwards into the running of PERDANERITE (Jockey P. Cullen), resulting in that gelding also being taken in and hampering BATON ROUGE (Jockey B. Pengelly). Jockey Aho was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 2nd July 2016, up to and including midnight on 15th July 2016. In determining penalty stewards took into account Jockey Aho’s poor record in relation to the rule.

Race 5: SKAL Townsville Class 3 Plate - 1000 metres
1st – PRELUSIVE STRIKE 2nd – LILLY KAREENA 3rd – SHOT OF COURAGE 4th – HEAD DRAGON

THE HANKINATOR – Bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer M. Young was advised that, as this was the first occasion on which the gelding bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53A, and then only after performing satisfactorily in a trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

WE FOUND IT – For some distance rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight was held up behind a weakening runner.

Joining the course proper near the 800 metres THE HANKINATOR (Jockey P. Cullen) shifted out marginally and contacted HEAD DRAGON (Apprentice R. Payne), which shifted out resulting in both EXALTED WARRIOR (Jockey S. Wilson) and DYNA CI (Jockey K. Aho) being crowded between that runner and WILKER (Jockey B. Pengelly) which shifted in marginally.

SOTTERO – Raced wide without cover throughout.

PRELUSIVE STRIKE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer Mr L. Wright explained that prior to the gelding’s most recent poor performance, its form had been reasonably consistent. He added that the gelding may have derived benefit from the removal of a tongue control bit.

Race 6: Mater Townsville Cup Day on Sale Now BenchMark Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – SECRET HARMONY 2nd – ROCHALLOR 3rd – PRETTY VACANT 4th – AUGUSTE

IRON METEORITE – Missed the start (2 lengths).

SECRET STEALTH – Slow to begin.

ISLAND BAR – Crowded for room at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.

THE BEST – Was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn and had to be steadied when awkward on heels.

Race 7: Reclining Rockers Here Sat 16 July Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – DUKE CELESTE 2nd – PINK STILETO 3rd – MISS HAVISHAM 4th – BONNIE BON BON

ROSIE’S COMMAND – Threw its head up at the start and lost ground.

SECRETS OWN – Began awkwardly.

LEGENDARY PLUME – Blundered at the start.

BONNIE BON BON – Crowded for room at the start.

PINK STILETO – Bumped on jumping. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

FRENCHENKA – On returning to scale Jockey S. Kaya reported that his mount raced ungenerously throughout and was inclined to get its head up.

KIRABO – Pulled hard in the early stages.

SHARP BIJOU – Jockey D. Simmons reported that his mount raced keenly throughout and was inclined to lay out.
