Race 1: Mt Mulligan Station Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – FOREST GAZELLE 2nd – WATTO’S JET 3rd – BOSSY BEACH 4th – JUST ANGEL

JUST ANGEL – Began awkwardly. Was inclined to race ungenerously in the middle stages.

LIFE’S A PICNIC – Bumped another runner at the start. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which blundered shortly after straightening and was awkward in its action, did not reveal any abnormalities.

SUPER SILENT – Bumped with another runner at the start.

FOREST GAZELLE - Knuckled at the start.

Race 2: Nautilus Aviation Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – KIRABO 2nd - CHINA TOWN 3rd – METEOR STORM 4th – REMOS

TAXEDTOTHEHILT – The explanation given by trainer R. Cussons for the late declaration of Jockey G. Watson as rider of the gelding was accepted. Shortly after the start was crowded for room and had to be checked.

CRAIGLEA THUNDER – Bumped at the start. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and joining the course proper near the 700 metres shifted in away from TOXICITY and bumped CHINA TOWN.

CHINA TOWN – Crowded for room shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped by another runner near the 700 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had blood in its nearside nostril from a small laceration.

HIDDEN REIGN – Shortly after the start was momentarily inconvenienced.

TOXICITY – Buffeted between runners at the start.

HIDDEN ROAD – Raced very ungenerously throughout, hung out and near the 700 metres had to be checked when crowded for room. Trainer Mr G. Pollock was told that a warning will be placed on the gelding.

HILARIOUS HONOUR – Passing the 500 metres was hampered and carried wider by another runner.

CAPT’N THUNDERBIRD – Shortly after straightening shifted out and made contact with REMOS.

Race 3: Northern Escapes QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – LITTLE WEALTH 2nd – SHIGZAG 3rd - VAUNTING 4th - CRAIGLEA DEKEN/CASINO THOUGHTS (DH)

STAR FURY – Began awkwardly.

SHIGZAG – Shifted out at the start and made contact with CRAIGLEA DEKEN (Jockey A. Coome). Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight. Jockey D. Evans will be interviewed in relation to his use of the whip.

When questioned regarding CRAIGLEA DIXIE leading today, Jockey W. D’Avila said that he had been instructed to ride the filly back in the field. However, from the wide gate, when inside runners did not show the anticipated early pace, he rode his mount along, crossed to the lead and allowed it to stride forward, where the filly travelled comfortably. Jockey D’Avila concurred with stewards that he should have made a greater effort to restrain his mount in the early stages, in an attempt to comply with his instructions.

Race 4: Daintree Eco Lodge BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1400 metres
1st – GO BY RIO 2nd – ONE FOR THE MONEY 3r d – TURKEY BEACH 4th – MY GIRL CHARLIE

MY GIRL CHARLIE – Began awkwardly.

LOCKIEBE – Crowded for room shortly after the start.

THE BEST – Bounded in the air at the start.

CRAIGLEA FOCUS – Was inclined to race keenly in the early stages.

DEE MINISHING – Raced wide with no cover throughout.

DUKE CELESTE – When questioned Jockey B. Pengelly said that his mount travelled comfortably throughout in a favourable position, however he felt that, when placed under pressure prior to straightening, it may have gone amiss. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained an injury to its off side knee. Trainer Mr G. Dickson will be interviewed at a later date.

LOCKIEBE – Passing the 500 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

Race 5: Orpheus Island Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – STATE OF WEALTH 2nd – CHATEAU DETTORI 3rd – RIVARIVA 4th – SECRET HARMONY

STATE OF WEALTH – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with the inside barrier gate. Raced wide without cover throughout.

GOLDEN METEOR – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.

RIVARIVA – Approaching the first turn near the 1000 metres was momentarily inconvenienced.

Race 6: The Ville Resort-Casino 2-Y-O Classic – 1200 metres
1st – TYZONE 2nd – PARTY PARDEE 3rd – MISHANI EL LOBO 4th – DOUMBEK

OURBOYBYRON – After arriving behind the barriers was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the off foreleg. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding on veterinary advice at 3.49 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on OURBOYBYRON be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

3¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, TYZONE
3¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, TYZONE
4¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, PARTY PARDEE
5¢ in the dollar for the place for third, MISHANI EL LOBO

Trainer Mr F. Wieland was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

DOUMBEK – Raced ungenerously in the early stages.

CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and had to be continually steadied off the heels of runners in front.

Rounding the turn near the 900 metres ALBERT THE ROCKET (Jockey D. Simmons), which was inclined to race ungenerously, shifted out and crowded MUST BE OBEYED (Jockey W. D’Avila) out onto the heels of REWARD FOR RICHES (Jockey G. Kliese), which clipped the heels of that runner.

MUST BE OBEYED – Raced wide without cover throughout.

TYZONE - Jockey S. Wilson was fined $300 under A.R. 137(c ) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Jockey S.Wilson was fined $300 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the gelding 6 times prior to the 100 metres. In assessing penalties stewards took into account his recent good record in relation to both rules..

Race 7: Colonial Leisure Group Weight For Age – 1609 meres
1st – FASTNET FLYER 2nd – FIESTY BELLE 3rd – ROCKNET 4th – CLEANSING ALE

FIESTY BELLE – Began awkwardly with its head up.

ROWEINER – Was standing awkwardly in the barriers and was slow to begin.

AUGUSTE – Raced wide without cover. Jockey D. Sparks was reprimanded for using his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

MASTER AVATAR – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SHEKOU – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

ROCKNET – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Jockey B. Thomson will be interviewed in relation to her use of the whip.

FASTNET FLYER – Held up and unable to obtain clear running rounding the home turn.

CASTLE EXPRESS – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
