SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Cairns 12th July 2016:

Race 1: Carlton Mid QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap

Jockey F. Edwards was fined $100 under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip on HEART OF TIER on 3 consecutive occasions prior to the 100 metres.

Race 1: Mater Townsville Cup Calcutta Fri 29 July Maiden Handicap - 1400 metres
1st – AUTHADANE 2nd – OUR GIRL CHARLOTTE 3rd – DESERT GAMBLER 4th – ROBABANK

DOMINION MONARCH – Bled during running. Trainer G. Baker was advised that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months, and then only after performing to the satisfaction of the stewards in a gallop over at least 1000 metres.

DIAMONDNET - Slow to begin.

VLADIMIR – Began awkwardly.

HE’S HARADA’S SON – When being crossed near the first turn, near the 1000 metres, got its head up and commenced to over-race. Jockey J. Lambie was reprimanded for using his whip on the gelding on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres. In determining penalty stewards took into account Jockey Lambie’s good record in relation to the rule.

DAESY DANORO – Over-raced in the middle stages.

GENERAL BEERS – Over-raced in the middle stages.

After being held up in the early part of the home straight, KHADIJA (Jockey N. Day) shifted in abruptly and crowded GENERAL BEERS (Jockey M. Haley) in onto the heels of OUR GIRL CHARLOTTE (Apprentice B. Grylls), which shifted out marginally. Jockey Day was reprimanded.

Race 2: Star 1063 QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – CASINO THOUGHTS 2nd - EMBRACE THE PAIN 3rd – KIRABO 4th – MISHANI REDMAN

COMPULSIVE ROCKET – As the start was effected began awkwardly, refused to stretch out and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer Mr P. Ryan was told that prior to racing again the filly must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards.

MCCAPHE - Slow to begin.

EMBRACE THE PAIN – Shifted in at the start and bumped CASINO THOUGHTS. Passing the 600 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

Race 3: Pat Molloy Jewellers BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1000 metres
1st – EFFIGY BELLE 2nd – VO TREASURE 3rd - NEWSPAPER 4th - CHINABOB

GIVE ME TIME – Shortly after the start was momentarily inconvenienced.

NEWSPAPER – Rounding the home turn was inclined to lay in when awkwardly placed on heels.

METEOR STORM – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.

VO TREASURE – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

PRELUSIVE STRIKE – Following the race Jockey A. Coome reported that over the concluding stages his left elbow cramped and he was in difficulty riding his mount out. Jockey Coome was examined by the Ambulance Officers and stood down from his further engagements. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Coome was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

Race 4: The Coffee Club Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – WILKER 2nd – HONEST FRIEND 3r d – PHANTOM SOX 4th – FORTUNE MASCOT

OUT OF THE BLUE - Slow to begin then crowded shortly after.

PINK STILETTO – Began awkwardly with its head up.

SILVER BOWS – Slow to begin. Approaching the 200 metres was momentarily inconvenienced.

DAZZLING LADY – Raced wide without cover throughout.

LITTLE RED CORVETE – Shifted out at the start and made contact with WILKER. Trainer R. Chillemi reported that the gelding was shin sore.

WILD DIVA – Held up and unable to obtain clear running in the early part of the straight.

JETFIRE – Jockey G. Kliese reported that his mount did not stretch out in the home straight and was disappointing.

HONEST FRIEND – In the early stages had to be steadied after improving onto heels.

PHANTOM SOX - Jockey J Lambie was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip above shoulder height.

Race 5: Mater Winter Cup Open Handicap - 2000 metres
1st – CASTLE EXPRESS 2nd – FIELDS OF TUSCANY 3rd – ALDREN 4th – ROWEINER


NUDGEE – Connections advised stewards that the gelding would be ridden back in the field with cover, if possible. After being caught wide the gelding was allowed to stride forward and assume the lead.

THE PRINCIPAL - Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

STANDFORD (Jockey S. Wiseman) made the turn out of the straight on the first occasion awkwardly and then raced wide with no cover from that point. Rounding the home turn had to be steadied when crowded between FIESTY BELLE (Jockey J. Lambie), which shifted out, and FIELDS OF TUSCANY (Jockey S. Wilson), which shifted in marginally at that point.

FIELDS OF TUSCANY – Passing the 700 metres shifted out and crowded GO BY RIO.

Jockey J. Lambie was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GO BY RIO (Jockey P. Cullen), which had to be checked. Jockey Lambie was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Saturday 30th July 2016, up to and including midnight on Tuesday 9th August 2016. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Lambie’s good record in relation to the rule.

Race 6: Blinds For You Bracelet Filles and Mares Class 6 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – SUNSET IN NEW YORK 2nd – FLIGHT ACADEMY 3rd – GOLD RUST 4th – LADY SIOUX

VALLEY ROSE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the filly, Jockey F. Edwards said that his mount was inclined to race keenly throughout the early and middle stages, however even allowing for that, his mount was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormalities.

PANTALETTES – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly throughout the early stages.

HOYWEDGE – Slow to begin.

EXTRANGERE – Began awkwardly and was bumped shortly afterwards.

LADY SIOUX – Raced keenly when travelling 3 wide without cover. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final stages.

Approaching the 1200 metres VALLEY ROSE (Jockey F. Edwards) shifted in when not clear of GOLD RUST (Apprentice C. Jokic), resulting in that runner being directed inwards onto SUNSET IN NEW YORK (Jockey G. Kliese), which was crowded for room. Jockey Edwards was reprimanded.

Race 7: Mater Townsville Cup Day Next Saturday BenchMark 65 Handicap – 1609 metres
1st – CARLINO’S WAY 2nd – FIRA 3rd – SIX BEAT 4th – GAINSFORD

JAMALKA – Slow to begin.

GLACIER EXPRESS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

LEAVE PASS – Passing the 200 metres had to be steadied when momentarily crowded for room.

CARLINO’S WAY – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

GO GIRLFRIEND – When questioned Jockey N. Day said that his mount travelled comfortably in the lead, however when another runner improved to his outside approaching the home turn he was under pressure from that point on and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R. Chillemi undertook to report back in the days subsequent.

CARLINO’S WAY – Jockey P . Cullen was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip above shoulder height.
