For some distance passing the 900 metres, SECRET STEALTH (Jockey C. Whiteley) became awkward in its action, then nearing the 800 metres faltered badly, made contact with the running rail and fell. ELEMENT OF CHANCE (Jockey M. Kai), which was following, was unable to avoid the fallen horse, was severely hampered and Jockey Kai dislodged. HERE TO DASH (Jockey S. Wiseman), which was also following was severely hampered, shifted out and crowded FOREST WAY (Jockey G. Kliese), which was hampered. Jockey Whiteley and Jockey Kai were transported to Townsville Hospital for observation. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary. ALL RIGGED UP – Rounding the turn near the 900 metres, when racing keenly shifted out and bumped BOCEPHUS (Jockey M. Haley). When questioned regarding her riding Apprentice R. Payne said that she was under no specific instructions, but rather have the gelding travel where it was comfortable. She stated that after obtaining a handy position the gelding travelled comfortably in the early stages, however was under pressure from the 600 metres. Apprentice Payne added that rounding the home turn she was then awkwardly placed on the heels of GENTLY GUIDED (Apprentice E. Cass) and had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and after obtaining clear running near the 200 metres she was of the belief that the gelding was a spent force, therefore she desisted from riding her mount out under full pressure. Stewards advised Apprentice Payne that in similar circumstances she would be expected to show far greater vigour when in clear running than she had on this occasion.
