BEYOND LIMITS – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. When questioned in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the filly, which raced below market expectations, Jockey K. MY GIRL’S A DRAGON – Inconvenienced when bumped by another runner on jumping. Was awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner approaching the home turn. Inclined to race greenly throughout. Near the 200 metres shifted out to obtain clear running and hampered WE JUST LOVE IT. Apprentice Cass, rider of MY GIRL’S A DRAGON, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

DIAMONDNET – Raced wide without cover in the middle stages. When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding, Apprentice C. Jokic stated that her instructions were to allow the horse a trouble-free run throughout, as it was one-paced and unable to sprint, therefore she was satisfied to allow the gelding to travel in a 3 wide position. Trainer J. Manzelmann confirmed the instructions given to Apprentice Jokic.

Race 4: KONAMI Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres

1st – SHEER PERSISTENCE 2nd – SNAPPY LEGEND 3r d – CORNISH TALES 4th – AUTHADANE

SNAPPY LEGEND – Bumped heavily with another runner on jumping.

EDITORIALE - Slowly away, then bumped by another runner, which shifted in shortly after the start.

YIFAN – Slow to begin.

SHEER PERSISTENCE – Raced wide without cover in the middle stages.

Apprentice E. Cass initially pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding under A. R. 137(a) in that near the 850 metres she allowed MOLONGLE HERO to shift in when not sufficiently clear, taking SNAPPY LEGEND (Jockey S. Wilson) in onto the rightful running of AUTHADANE (Jockey W. D’Avila), which was severely checked and lost ground. A short distance later Jockey S. Wilson also had to restrain his mount to avoid the heels of MOLONGLE HERO. After conferring with senior jockey P. Cullen Apprentice Cass made an application to stewards to amend her plea to one of guilty. Stewards acceded to the application. Apprentice Cass was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight on 22nd October 2016, up to and including midnight on 29th October 2016. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Apprentice Cass’s good record under the rule and her acknowledgement of where she erred in today’s race.

Race 7: Townsville Yacht Club Class 2 Handicap – 1400 metres

1st - HITCH ‘EM UP 2nd - DANZ THE MAN 3rd - HAZY BLUR 4 - REMOS

OUR LITTLE MIRACLE - Began very awkwardly and lost ground.

CHOMARU – Began awkwardly, shifted out abruptly and tightened the running of SILVER BOWS, which clipped that runner’s heels and blundered.

Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred near the 850 metres in which SILVER BOWS (Jockey S. Wiseman) clipped heels and blundered. After taking evidence from all riders involved, Jockey S. Wiseman, App. M. Abe, Jockey B. Thomson, and Jockey D Simmons and viewing the films, it was established that SILVER BOWS, which was over-racing leading up to the incident, had improved into restricted room in an awkward position to the inside of RHAEGO (App. M. Abe). Shortly afterwards DANZ THE MAN (Jockey B. Thomson) which was racing to the outside of that runner, shifted in slightly and OUR LITTLE MIRACLE (D Simmons) shifted out slightly at the same time, resulting in SILVER BOWS clipping the heels of OUR LITTLE MIRACLE and blundering. As stewards were unable to attribute sole blame to any individual rider, no further action was taken.

HAZY BLUR – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

HITCH ‘EM UP – Shifted out under pressure in the straight, forcing DANZ THE MAN wider on the track leaving the 300 metres until approaching the winning post. Jockey N. Day was told to show greater care in similar circumstances.
