GENERAL:
 
Following an inspection of the track at 12.00pm, stewards downgraded the track rating from GOOD 4 to SOFT 5.
 
Stewards questioned trainer A. Bailey into the reason NEAR THE CITY (Race 1) was scratched leaving a field of 4 runners. After considering the explanation tendered by Mr Bailey Stewards were of the opinion no breach of the Rules of Racing had occurred and no further action was taken.
 
 
 
RACE 1: Horan & Bird Class 6 Plate  -  1609 metres
 
RANKED - Slow to begin. Rider W. D'Avila dropped his whip near the 200m.
 
ISLAND BAR - Raced wide in the early stages.
 
 
RACE 2: - Great Northern Maiden Handicap -  1000 metres
 
MILALBA - Due to a misunderstanding, the Race Book  did not show that the mare would race blinkers. Public announcements were made to that effect. Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the early and middle stages, then became unalanced leaving the 300m.
 
BASK IN GLORY - Began awkwardly, shifted inwards and hampered another runner.
 
BRIGHT ANGEL - Hampered by another runner, which shifted in at the start, and lost ground. Had a tendency to hang out in the early and middle stages.
 
MACCA'S HEART - Slow into stride. Shifted in leaving the 300m and crowded another runner.
 
SPREAD THE NEWS - Raced greenly near the 200m and had to be restrained. Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority if the race.
 
CAPTAIN TO A TEE - Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 500m. Momentarily hampered by another runner, which shifted out near the 100m.
 
MAGIC BELINDA - Raced in restricted room near the 500m and had to be restrained from heels. Had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages. Unable to obtain clear running shortly after entering the home straight. Shifted out near the 100m and hampered another runner and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
LEIGHWAY - Crowded for room leaving the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Lost its off hind plate during in running.
 
MY BOY TICKETS - Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
RACE 3:  SSAF Sheet Metal - Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap - 1000 metres
 
FALVERENA - Trainer Ms C.Williams was fined $100 under AR114(1) (c)  for failing to scratch the mare by the prescribed time.
 
LITTLE STRYKER - Late scratching, at 12.05 p.m when unable to make it to the track due to a traffic accident on the highway.
 
LITTLE BIT TRASHY - Began awkwardly and shifted out, crowding another runner.
 
NIC'S TIME - Raced in restricted room on jumping away.
 
FIRESTAR PHOENIX - Began awkwardly.
 
CHATEAU MAROUX - Raced ungenerously shortly after the start and hung in crowding runners to its inside.
 
MISC - Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
RENEGADE RUBY - slow into stride.
 
RACE 4: Canine Helpers QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1200 metres
 
LEND ME A TENNER- Slow to begin.
 
MAHARG - Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early stages.
 
INDELICACY - Slow to begin. Shifted in abruptly near the 1000m, improving onto heels of another runner and having to be restrained for some distance, before shifting wider near the 800m and in doing so forcing another runner wider.
 
FINE 'N' DEVINE -  Restrained from heels near the 800m and shifted out, forcing another runner wider. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and shifted wider to obtain clear running.
 
TIME FOR LILLI - Forced wider by another runner near the 800m.  Was obliged ro race wide for the majority of the race.
 
TEMPESTA ROSSA - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the presence of blood in both nostrils. Acting under the provisions of AR53A, Stewards advised trainer Mr R. Burow that the gelding will incur the mandatory ban from racing of 3 months and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m in the presence of a steward be permitted to race again.
 
RACE 5: Delta Office Solutions Colts,Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap -  1000 metres
 
A L'OUEST - Slow to begin.
 
HIDONAL - Slow to begin.
 
SPORTS TYCOON - Blundered on jumping.
 
TECZA - Blundered on jumping and shifted out, bumping another runner. Was bumped by another runner shortly after the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approachng the 700m.

ZEDAHEEL - Shifted out shortly after the start, bumping another runner. Laid out rounding the home turn and hampered another runner.
 
GONDWANA BAY - Hampered by another runner rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
I WANNA BREAK FREE - Shifted in near the 700m, placing runners to its inside in restricted room. Jockey S. Wilson was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide with no cover throughout the race.
 
SUPAMETEOR - Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m. Was bumped by another runner near the 600m. Rider B. Thomson advised Stewards that in her opinion the gelding got its tongue over the bit during the race. Trainer T. Comerford advised it is now his intention to add a tongue tie to horses gear for its next start.
 
RACE 6: Dexion North Queensland Class 3 Plate - 1300 metres
 
KHADIJA - Slow to begin.
 
FLYING IGGY – Began awkwardly.
 
MARTIAL ART - Bounded in the air on jumping, was bumped by another runner and lost ground.
 
GALEA WARRIOR - Shifted in at the start and bumped another runner.
 
MISS HAVISHAM - Blundered at the start and was then crowded for room and lost ground. Shifted wider leaving the 700m and raced very wide rounding the home turn.
 
MIAZUMI - Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
BRAVE BOW - Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
RACE 7: Caltex Yabulu Open Handicap - 1000 Metres
 
 
PINYARDA -Slow to begin.Rider S. Wilson was of the opinion that the gelding was not comfortable in today's track surface when placed under pressure in the home straight and would be better suited over further ground than that of todays event. .
 
EL CAPO - Slow to begin.
 
ROYAL PHYSICIAN - Began awkwadly, shifted outwards and bumped another runner. Leaving the 600m had to be restrained when racing in  restricted room.
 
GREEN ANCHOR -  Began awkwardly and shifted inwards, bumped another runner and became unbalanced. Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the race.
 
CHEERING - Raced wide for the majority of the race.
