TRUMP IT – Slow to begin.
LITTLE MISS MONACO – Raced wide throughout.
NYRAMBLA – Apprentice J. Oliver was reprimanded for using the whip 7 times prior to the 100m.
ROSIE POSIE – Raced greenly when attempting a narrow run for a short distance passing the 100m. Checked to avoid the heels of NOTHIN’ ZAPPENIN’ near the 50m when that runner shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice H. English, the rider of NOTHIN’ ZAPPENIN’ was reprimanded for this incident.
SHE’S FOR RANSOM – Initially slow to begin, then further hampered at the start by CLEVER CHLOE, which shifted out.
Race 2: GC EVENT HIRE F&M CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M
REAL EYES – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards questioned L. Tilley in relation to his tactics in the early stages whereby after being slow to begin he rode his mount vigorously around the field and ultimately raced in a wide position throughout the event when there appeared to be an opportunity to obtain a position closer to the rails in a more rearward position. Upon questioning, jockey Tilley immediately advised Stewards that he felt he erred in the early stages by not taking advantage of the position described by the Stewards. Jockey Tilley did, however, advise that approaching the 700m he was able to obtain a position three wide with cover despite having to do considerable work to obtain this position. Whilst Stewards felt apprentice Tilley had erred in making the decision he did, they did not believe that it fell below the required standard under the rules, bearing in mind his status as an apprentice rider, and therefore took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for the horse before it races again.
ROYAL HOOTENANNY – Raced wide throughout.
AZUSA – Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.
WONDERFUL TESS – Forced to race in restricted room for a considerable distance approaching and passing the 100m and near the 50m had to be checked to avoid the heels of STRELOVEN. S. Drake, the rider of STRELOVEN, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching and passing the 100m she made insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting in and causing interference to WONDERFUL TESS. S. Drake’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 21 February and expire at midnight on Monday 29 February 2016. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Drake’s previous good record in relation to this rule.
ISTALENA – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
Race 3: QUEENSLAND CHOICE MEATS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1310M
After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, connections of 4th placegetter SUM IT UP lodged an objection against PINBALL DAWN being declared the winner alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards noted that PINBALL DAWN did shift in under pressure near the 50m resulting in SUM IT UP having to be steadied, however, given the proximity of the interference to the finish line and the margin separating both runners at the finish, Stewards could not be satisfied that the protest should be upheld and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
SO YOU DRINK – Apprentice L. Tilley was fined $100 for using the whip 6 times prior to the 100m.
VIMZIG – Late scratching at 9.30 am for veterinary reasons.
TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Steadied to avoid the heels of PINBALL DAWN approaching the 800m and shifted wider on the track. As a result of another runner improving to its inside, TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME was then forced to race wide without cover for the remainder of the event.
FILLE ARDENTE – Apprentice M. Schrapel was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
THE A LISTER – Slow to begin.
WORLD SERIES – Slow to begin.
Race 4: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS BM75 H'CAP – 1880M
KINGSTON TIME – Stewards questioned apprentice J. Worley in relation to her riding of the horse from approaching the 500m as to whether there was an opportunity to place her mount under pressure to improve into the race sooner than she did. Apprentice Worley advised that she has ridden the gelding extensively throughout its career and as such has formed the opinion that the horse only possesses a short sprint and therefore she elected to wait until entering the home straight before placing the horse under pressure. Whilst noting apprentice Worley’s explanation, Stewards nonetheless advised her that in their opinion she should have placed her mount under pressure earlier than she did as this possibly may have allowed the horse to finish in a more prominent position.
LEGSMAN – Overraced during the early and middle stages of the event and proved difficult to ride.
LAURINOOR – After passing the winning post on the first occasion, tightened for room to the inside of SUITS US, which laid in despite the efforts of the rider. Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained approaching the 1600m. Brushed the running rail approaching the 1500m.
PUTAPAVONIT – K. Yoshida was fined $200 for using the whip 6 times prior to the 100m.
CALEDONIA’S CALL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. On returning to scale jockey S. Bogenhuber expressed some disappointment with the horse’s performance, however advised Stewards that the gelding coughed significantly on pulling up, which she felt was of some significance. Trainer T. Sears advised that in light of jockey Bogenhuber’s report, he would have an endoscopic examination carried out on the gelding, the results of which he would report to Stewards.
Race 5: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLES BM80 H'CAP – 1110M
KEMPELLY – Laid in under pressure for a short distance approaching the 100m.
STORM CRAZY – On returning to scale J. Orman advised that his mount travelled strongly in the early and middle stages of the event, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Sears expressed disappointment with the horse’s performance tonight, however advised that the gelding has previously tied up, which he felt may have occurred on this occasion, resulting in the poor performance. Mr Sears added that he will have blood tests conducted on the gelding in the days subsequent to tonight’s event, the results of which he will report to Stewards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had a poor post-race recovery.
Race 6: HANNAS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1210M
KENKERJOCA – Jumped inwards at the start and bumped another runner.
YOU LITTLE THIEF – Bumped at the start.
LONTANA – Improved on to the heels of a tiring runner near the 500m and shifted wider on the track.
SECOND LOVE – Stewards questioned S. Apthorpe in relation to his tactics whereby the horse raced four wide without cover throughout the event instead of being restrained near the 1000m to obtain a position closer to the rails. Jockey Apthorpe advised that in the early stages he rode his mount vigorously and was of the view that the horse would have sufficient speed to cross runners to his inside in an endeavour to race outside the leader, however, when unable to cross them, it resulted in him racing four wide throughout the event. Having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage, jockey Apthorpe conceded that in hindsight it would have been more advantageous to restrain his mount to a position as described by the Stewards, which would afforded his mount a better run throughout the event. Stewards noted jockey Apthorpe’s explanation, however advised that his ride lacked judgment but was not such as to be culpable under the rules.
MYTYBYTE – Blundered shortly after the start.
CRIMSON GOD – Slow to begin. Improved on to the heels of a tiring runner approaching the 400m and was forced wider on the track.
EMMADEE – Stewards will interview trainer T. Webb in relation to the horse’s poor performance at a later date.
