GENERAL

As apprentice M. Schrapel and Bradley Appo were injured at the Dalby meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: BUNDABERG RUM CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1000M

FLYING MAGNUS – Raced wide throughout. Compounded over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

SQUEEMI – Bumped with another runner at the start. Apprentice H. English was fined $100 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

AMERICAN SPIRIT – Checked after passing the 200m. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards established that after passing the 200m MY MAISIE shifted out marginally whilst hanging out, initially causing tightening to AMERICAN SPIRIT. A short distance later TEMUJIN’S QUEEN shifted out after being taken out by SQUEEMI (H. English), which itself shifted out marginally. Stewards were satisfied that a number of factors were involved in this incident and took the matter no further other than to advise apprentice H. English of her obligations to straighten her mounts when they commence to shift ground.

MY MAISIE – Bumped with another runner at the start. On returning to scale A. Taylor reported that her mount hung out from the 600m.

RUSTIC PLAY – Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: COCA COLA AMATIL CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1110M

Stewards permitted A. Taylor to replace the injured apprentice M. Schrapel as the rider of NO MORE MISTAKES when no apprentice was available.

CLARADINI – Held up for the majority of the home straight and went to the line without being fully tested.

UNO BEST – Made contact with another runner on jumping away.

NO MORE MISTAKES – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner. Bumped another runner near the 850m.

RUFFO – Held up momentarily rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CINNABOLDA – Bumped at the start.

BLETCHY BOY – Held up for clear running from the 350m until near the 100m.

DAZET – Made contact with another runner on jumping away. Held up for a short distance near the 100m.

IBELIEVEICANFLY – Bumped another runner near the 850m.

Race 3: PAUL HANNANT MEMORIAL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1110M

DYLAN’S LUCK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

BIG BAMBOO – Raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

KAVALONG – Raced wide throughout.

DEVIL’S RUM – Apprentice S. Lacy was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

SPIRIT OF KIOWA – Stewards questioned trainer R. Lipp in relation to the filly’s improved performance. Mr Lipp advised that at its first start in a race, based on the horse’s track work, a trial and jump-outs leading into that race, he expected the filly to race well on that occasion. He added that he was extremely disappointed with the horse’s performance on that occasion, however noted that the horse had been slow to begin, which was a major contributing factor to the poor performance on that occasion. Mr Lipp further added that in preparation for tonight’s event, he had the filly scoped following its first up run, with no abnormalities detected, and he also applied blinkers to the filly, which he felt was a key factor in the horse’s improved performance. Mr Lipp also explained that following the horse’s previous start it had won a trial leading up to tonight’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.

MATILDARE – Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber in relation to the performance of the horse, which was heavily supported on both on-course and off-course markets. Jockey Bogenhuber advised that after beginning well she was able to obtain a forward position one off the fence where the filly travelled comfortably throughout the event. She added that she attempted to improve into the race from the 600m, however when trapped on the back of the tiring CATHRIN MARY, this resulted in her mount losing ground and forward momentum, which jockey Bogenhuber felt was of significance to the horse’s overall finishing effort. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: GC EVENT HIRE CLASS 1 PLATE – 1650M

I AM THE WARRIOR – Apprentice L. Tilley was reprimanded for using the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

TEMUJIN KHAN – When questioned regarding the horse’s poor performance, P. Romeo advised that after beginning well he settled in a rearward position as per the horse’s customary racing pattern and the pre-race instructions from trainer M. Nolan. He added that the gelding travelled well throughout the event, however was positioned some distance from the leader and therefore he elected to improve into the race from the 700m, however the gelding, in his opinion, ran on only fairly over the concluding stages and was somewhat disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

GALLIVANTER CAT – After establishing the leading position, the horse raced keenly during the early and middle stages.

ALL APPLES – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced three wide from the 1300m until passing the 800m.

PRETTY LUCKY – Forced into a three-wide position by another runner for a short distance in the middle stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a position again one off the fence.

Race 5: HANNAS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1310M

CHARLES THE THIRD – Checked to avoid heels near the 400m and made contact with the running rail. A. Taylor, the rider of DAISY WHEEL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 400m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHARLES THE THIRD. A. Taylor’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 2 April and expire at midnight on Saturday 10 April 2016. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Taylor’s good riding record. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Steadied near the 150m and shifted out to obtain clear running.

MISTER BURGESS – B. Stewart pleaded guilty to a charge under AR.137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, to commence at midnight on Friday 15 April, being the expiration of a careless riding suspension incurred at Doomben, and expire at midnight on Friday 22 April 2016. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Stewart’s poor record in relation to the whip rules.

ST JAMES SQUARE – Slow to begin.

LARVOTTO BEACH – Bumped with another runner on jumping away.

MADDY’S GIRL – Bumped with another runner on jumping away.

Race 6: VANDERFIELD HINO BM80 H'CAP – 1880M

STORM MAGIC – Caught wide in the early stages. Raced ungenerously with its head in the air whilst being restrained near the 1400m.

WESTERN HEIR – Slow to muster speed.
