PAYBACK – Jockey D. Griffin advised that after beginning well he obtained its customary forward position, however was unable to lead the event. He added that the gelding travelled comfortably throughout the race, but when forced to improve into the race responded only fairly. Jockey Griffin also advised the horse does have a history of wind problems and over the concluding stages he noted it was making an abnormal respiratory noise which was not the case when he was successful on the horse at the Gold Coast at its previous start. Trainer T. Sears expressed some disappointment with the performance today however, in his opinion, the gelding failed to run out the distance of today’s event. He added that in light of this he will endeavour to restrict the horse’s races to 900m moving forward.

THE YOWIE – Lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 4: Moore Trailers Dalrello Stakes QTIS 2yo Plate – 1200m

ENDLESS DAYS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running for a considerable distance between the 200m and 100m.

LOVE SPY – Love Spy- Stewards questioned Jockey J Byrne in relation to the tactics adopted on the filly. Jockey Byrne advised that he was instructed to lead as per the filly’s customary racing pattern and for that reason after beginning well he rode his mount along and in his opinion obtained the leading comfortably approaching the 1000m. Jockey Bryne went onto to say that after obtaining the lead he was challenged by HAPPY EVENT and prior to reaching the 900m was of the view to hold the leading position to this inside of that runner, however from the 900m when LOVE SPY commenced to over race as a result of the pressure being applied by HAPPY EVENT, he became concerned with the tempo being set and therefore elected to restrain in an attempt to slow to the tempo or to allow HAPPY EVENT to cross. Jockey Bryne however advised that as LOVE SPY was racing in blinkers for the first time, it continued to over race despite his continued efforts to restrain, until eventually crossed by HAPPY EVENT near the 500m. Stewards noted Jockey Byrne’s explanation. Weakened over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

HAPPY EVENT – Stewards questioned Jockey S Bogenhuber and Trainer J Zielke in relation to the tactics adopted. Subsequently Jockey S. Bogenhuber was found guilty of a chare under AR135(b) in that from the 900m after obtaining a position outside LOVE SPY she failed to make sufficient effort to restrain her mount when it was reasonable and permissible to do so particularly given she had ridden aggressively in the early stages to obtain a position outside the lead. Further, from the 800m she allowed her mount to stride forward which resulted in HAPPY EVENT maintaining a fast tempo when it was reasonable and permissible to restrain and attempt to maintain a position outside LOVE SPY, and that her actions as particularised have, in the opinion of the stewards, resulted in HAPPY EVENT failing to obtain the best possible position. Jockey Bogenhuber was suspended from riding in races or a period of 2 months, to commence at midnight, 20 April and to expire midnight 20 June.
