From Toowoomba 16.4.16: Racing Queensland Stewards conducted random stable inspections of trainers with runners at today’s meeting. The following trainers were fined $200 for failing to have their treatment book immediately available for inspection or up to date, as per the provisions of AR. 178F: Charlotte White, Barry Squair, Rochelle Smith (Gatton 17.4.16).
Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for having an unlicensed stablehand in his employ.
Race 1: BRYAN’S 40TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
The start of this race was delayed when Apprentice S. Lacy was dislodged from STRIDE OF PRIDE during the preliminary. STRIDE OF PRIDE was quickly recaptured, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race.
CAMBOOYA ROCK – Raced greenly and laid out for the majority of the event.
LIVING LIFE LARGER – Steadied near the 800m.
BRAND WORKS – Raced greenly throughout and hung in in the home straight, proving difficult to ride.
I’M SO EPIC – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 800m. On returning to scale apprentice H. English reported that her mount proved disappointing today and never travelled strongly on the bit throughout the event. Trainer P. Sexton expressed disappointment in the performance and will now review the filly’s current preparation, which may include sending the horse for a spell. Mr Sexton also undertook to report to Stewards in coming days anything which comes to light which may have had an effect on the performance.
MALT ‘N’ FURY – Buffeted at the start and lost ground. Checked to avoid heels near the 800m and shifted wider on the track, losing ground.
SONADOR FIRE – Hung out throughout the event. Raced wide without cover.
WRITTINKO – Tightened for room near the 800m, made contact with the running rail, checked and lost considerable ground. N. Tomizawa, the rider of TEXT BOOK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 800m when not sufficiently clear of STRIDE OF PRIDE, which was taken in on to WRITTINKO. N. Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 23 April and expire at midnight on Wednesday 4 May 2016. In assessing penalty, Stewards found that the carelessness was mid-range, however took into account jockey Tomizawa’s good record and his plea of guilt.
Race 2: TOTAL TECHNOLOGY CENTRE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1210M
RICH TRADITION – Commenced to hang out from the 900m and shifted wider on the track for some distance. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the colt must trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again.
EIGHT CHANCE – Began awkwardly and lost some ground.
ALL APPLES – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 150m.
AHA I SEE – Tightened for room at the start.
FEYTALISTIC – Steadied and made contact with the running rail near the 500m when placed in restricted room by another runner.
Race 3: G&D GROUP (QLD) PTY LTD BM75 H'CAP – 1210M
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable trainer B. Currie to view the photo finish print for 1st.
SKIP TOWN – Disappointed for a run and held up and unable to improve between the 200m and the 100m.
NEVETUS – Forced wider on the track near the 900m. N. Tomizawa was reprimanded for use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
BEAUXBATON – Forced wider on the track near the 900m. Stewards questioned apprentice T. Brooker in relation to her riding tactics, in particular as to whether there was an opportunity in the early stages to obtain a position one off the fence trailing NEVETUS rather than remaining to the outside of that runner in a three wide position. Apprentice Brooker advised that she had anticipated racing towards the rear of the field and in the early stages it was her intention to obtain the position one off the fence behind NEVETUS, however the gelding commenced to race keenly, which resulted in her being unable to restrain sufficiently to obtain that position. Having had the opportunity to review the films, apprentice Brooker agreed with Stewards that in hindsight it would have been more advantageous to restrain BEAUXBATON more heavily in the first 50m of the race than she did, which would have given her a greater opportunity to obtain the position one off the fence.
RHIATENN ROAD – Dwelt at the start and then was tightened for room and lost ground. Steadied to avoid heels when racing keenly near the 900m and shifted out.
Race 4: NEWLANDS GROUP BM65 H'CAP – 1650M
As S. Apthorpe was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement due to being delayed at another venue, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of NO THANKYOU ALI.
FELIX BAY – Overraced in the early stages and near the 1200m was checked away from the heels of NO THANKYOU ALI. Momentarily steadied whilst weakening when placed in restricted room near the 400m.
ELEGIES – Raced three wide from leaving the 1200m.
NO THANKYOU ALI – On returning to scale R. Goltz advised that after beginning well his mount raced keenly in the early stages until crossed by another runner. Jockey Goltz added that from this point the gelding never travelled strongly on the bit at any stage and in his opinion was disappointing.
SIPPIN’BUNDY – Apprentice L. Tilley was reprimanded for using the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
CASINO GOLD – Laid out rounding the turn near the 1200m. Apprentice T. Brooker was fined $200 for using the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
ROCKDAY – Hung out for the majority of the event and shifted very wide on the track in the home straight. Trainer M. Kropp was advised the horse will be required to barrier trial prior to its next start.
LADY ATHENA – Slow into stride.
Race 5: NOBLE BEND FARM MAIDEN H'CAP – 1650M
After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, R. Goltz, the rider of CHARLES THE THIRD, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against GRAN SABANA (L. Tilley) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards were satisfied that GRAN SABANA shifted out approaching the 100m, making heavy contact with CHARLES THE THIRD, resulting in that runner becoming unbalanced. Bearing in mind the margin that separated both runners at the finish, Stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred, CHARLES THE THIRD would have finished ahead of GRAN SABANA and therefore upheld the objection and declared correct weight on the revised placings of 1, 7, 5 and 3. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice L. Tilley was reprimanded.
SCARLETT HUSSIE – Laid in near the 200m and then was forced to be checked off the heels of another runner.
PARIS BY NIGHT – Steadied from heels leaving the 800m. Held up for clear running from the 500m until the 250m.
GRAN SABANA – Raced wide throughout.
Race 6: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1050M
LISTANERA – Permission was granted for apprentice L. Tilley to claim only ½ kg of his 1.5 kg allowance. Apprentice Tilley was fined $300 for failing to claim his full allowance. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account apprentice Tilley’s recent poor record. Laid in rounding the home turn.
DR DEEJAY – Steadied from heels in the early stages.
SNEAKY PETERSON – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.
WILD ROMANCE – Stood flat-footed at the start and then refused to race in the early stages, losing considerable ground. Trainer J. Hanna was advised that the horse must obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.
Race 7: SIMON HOME TIMBER & HARDWARE MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of B. Appo as the rider of YOU LITTLE THIEF.
MITCHFORCE – Hampered at the start. Checked off heels near the 700m.
YOU LITTLE THIEF – Forced wider on the track leaving the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards.
RETURN TO ROYALTY – After turning for home, where the cutaway rail applies, commenced to lay in and proved difficult to ride out. A warning was placed on the horse’s racing manners.
TEEROYS TRIBUTE – Tightened for room leaving the 900m and had to be checked. Apprentice H. English, the rider of LADY DICTATOR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of TEEROYS TRIBUTE. Apprentice English’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight on Monday 25 April and expire at midnight on Tuesday 3 May 2016. In assessing penalty, Stewards found that the carelessness was low-range and took into account apprentice English’s good record and her plea of guilt.
KAPACHINO MISS – Shifted in and made contact with the running rail approaching the 600m.
MISS ARKWRIGHT – Became awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner leaving the 700m and shifted out. Leaving the 100m was steadied to avoid the heels of MITCHFORCE (T. Banks), which shifted in abruptly when not fully clear. T. Banks was reprimanded.
UNSEEMLY – Became fractious in the barriers, removed, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to race. Began awkwardly. Disappointed for a run near the 150m and was forced to shift inwards to secure clear running, and was again disappointed for a run near the 50m.
BROLGA’S BID – Made contact with the running rail near the 700m and became unbalanced.
ARDENNES – Hampered at the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
