GENERAL

As apprentice R. Williams was riding at another venue , riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 1: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

ROCK SPARK – Bumped with another runner on jumping away. Steadied momentarily shortly after the start to avoid the heels of another runner. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

KID CRUIZE – Bumped with another runner on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.

MAGIC SQUARE – Apprentice L. Attard was permitted to ride the filly when claiming only 1.5kg of his 2kg allowance. Apprentice Attard was fined $100. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account apprentice Attard’s good record in relation to weight-related offences.

LADY MICAELA – Attempted to shift out to obtain clear running rounding the home turn, was disappointed for that run and was forced to shift to the inside to secure clear running.

CORDON ROUGE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Bumped heavily by another runner rounding the home turn.

CAUGHT A CRACKER – Began awkwardly and then was tightened for room shortly after the start and as a result lost ground.

RED WARNING – Raced wide throughout without cover. K. Yoshida reported on returning to scale that his mount hung out from the 800m and proved difficult to ride out.

RACE 2: SHANNON SIGH COMPANY CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when PAYBACK was initially reluctant to proceed to the barriers and then required the tongue tie to be refitted upon arrival at the barriers. Trainer’s representative L. Sears was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s pre-race behaviour.

PAYBACK – Began awkwardly and lost some ground at the start. Following the gelding’s poor performance, trainer T. Sears advised that the horse will now be spelled, during which time consideration will be given to the horse’s racing future.

TEMUJIN’S QUEEN – Late scratching at 5.03 pm on veterinary advice that the mare was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the horse racing again.

DRAGON MASTER – Slow to begin.

RACE 3: HOT FM CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1625M

The start of this race was delayed when GALWAY TOWN got its head down in the barriers and proved difficult for the barrier staff to rectify.

DAZZLING SHIRAZ – Caught wide in the early stages, allowed to stride forward by its rider to a position closer to the rails near the 1200m. Had a tendency to race keenly from the 1200m to nearing the 1000m. Apprentice E. Ljung advised that after beginning awkwardly and being caught wide in the early stages, her mount eventually settled near the 1000m and obtained a comfortable run for the remainder of the event, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to her riding and in her opinion proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

LOST THIEF – Made contact with the running rail at the 1200m, became awkward and lost ground when racing in restricted room to the inside of GALLIVANTER CAT. N. Tomizawa, the rider of GALLIVANTER CAT, was advised to exercise more care.

AUDELLA – J. Missen reported on returning to scale that he was not concerned that his mount raced in a rearward position, which is the mare’s usual racing pattern, however when placed under pressure at the 600m the horse failed to respond and proved very disappointing.

PURE INTELLIGENCE – Jumped with its head in the air.

RACE 4: A&R REFRIGERATION QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M

LAST ROUND – Steadied away from the heels of LOST SYMPHONY near the 700m and then raced ungenerously and wide for the remainder of the event. J. Noske reported that her mount raced greenly throughout. Inclined to lay in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.

SMASHED IT – Jumped away awkwardly. Improved on to heels and lost ground whilst hanging in when the pace of the race steadied near the 700m. G. Geran reported on returning to scale that his mount had a tendency to lay in in the home straight.

LOST SYMPHONY – J. Missen reported on returning to scale that his mount had a tendency to lay in in the home straight.

MERINDONNA – Jumped away awkwardly.

MRS ED MISSES ED – Steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room whilst weakening near the 150m.

LEICA’S LASS – Tightened for room on jumping away. Forced to steady to avoid the heels of LOST SYMPHONY which laid in rounding the home turn. Apprentice E. Ljung reported on returning to scale that after beginning well, she obtained a favourable position one out, one back, however when the pace of the race steadied near the 700m, she improved onto heels and lost some ground, and then at the 500m she was held up and unable to improve after being caught on the heels of the tiring MRS ED MISSES ED. She added that when securing a clear run rounding the home turn she was again momentarily steadied when another runner shifted in when not fully clear, however in the home straight ran on strongly.

RED BLANKET – Steadied from heels shortly after the start when tightened for room.

RACE 5: WIPPELLS AUTOS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

IMPLICATE – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice E. Ljung reported that her mount laid in for the majority of the race.

WILD ELEMENT – Raced keenly in the early stages.

MYTYBYTE – Tightened for room on jumping away.

PEARLY AVENUE - Stewards questioned trainer B. Currie in relation to the change of tactics whereby the filly led tonight’s event when its previous racing pattern was to race back in the field. Mr Currie expressed surprise that the horse led tonight’s event based on the horse’s previous racing pattern, however when the horse began well tonight, he was satisfied with jockey Guthmann-Chester’s initiative to take up the leading position. Stewards accepted the explanation.

WILMA – Attempted to force a run to the inside of SHIBA SAKURA passing the 600m, bumped heavily with that runner and was eventually checked and lost ground near the 500m.

MADAME AZANTE – Slow to begin.

SHIBA SAKURA – Began awkwardly.

RACE 6: ALTITUDE MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

DISCARDED – Kicked by another runner behind the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

MARINA’S SON – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start slow to muster early speed.

ONEMORE TWIST – N. Nishio was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Nishio’s good record regarding compliance with the whip rules.

ST JAMES SQUARE – Slow to begin.

GHOST MOUNTAIN – Sprawled as the gates opened and as a result lost ground.

DAME DEMMI – After being caught wide in the early stages was restrained to a position closer to the running rail near the 1300m.

MISS ARKWRIGHT – After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward and obtained the leading position near the 1200m. Compounded from the 600m. Stewards questioned K. Yoshida, who was originally leading on the fence, as to the reasons for the eventual winner EMINENT KNIGHT securing a run to his inside passing the 500m. Jockey Yoshida advised that prior to the event he had formed the view that the track conditions in that section of the track were more favourable off the fence and for that reason he elected to shift to a one wide position, which enabled EMINENT KNIGHT to secure a run to his inside. Stewards noted the explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 7: NUTURF MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice L. Attard, the rider of HIGH PROFILE, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that shortly after passing the 100m GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS shifted in and made minor contact with HIGH PROFILE, however Stewards felt that this bump was of little consequence. Stewards further found that inside the 50m both runners made contact again, however as Stewards were satisfied that the contact was initiated by HIGH PROFILE shifting outwards, they could not attribute this incident to GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS. Bearing in mind both relevant factors, Stewards were of the view that the protest should be dismissed and correct weight was issued on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

OTHER WAY – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

FLINCH – Made the turn at the 1200m wide and then raced wide for the remainder of the event.

TANA CENTURY – Raced wide throughout.
