RACE 1: QLD PLUMBING & FOUNDATIONS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1300M

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the footage of the start to determine if the horse had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the film, and taking evidence from the starter, stewards determined that AGORA, which had been fractious in the barriers, was held by a barrier attendant as the start was effected, and as such declared the mare a non runner, with all monies invested on AGORA to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

11 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
17 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

Starting prices subject to deduction.

JESSIE’S BOY – The explanation tendered by trainer R. Hawkswell for the late declaration of J. Woodhouse as the rider of the horse was accepted. Apprentice J. Woodhouse was fined $200 for failing to claim his full allowance. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer R. Hawkswell reported the horse ran on well last start after racing wide in that event, and that it had been working well and was confident of a forward showing in today’s event. He added that it was now his intention to send the gelding for a spell.

WORTH THE WAIT – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to provide the Document of Description for the horse. Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice R. Williams advised that when caught wide in the early stages she was obliged to place her mount under pressure to obtain a forward position, which, in her opinion explained why the gelding did not finish off strongly when placed under pressure.

TRACK FLASH – Raced wide from the 600m.

TRUMP IT – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

ROCK ME CRAZY – Jockey N. Tomizawa was reminded of his obligations regarding raising his whip arm above shoulder height.

RACE 2: DOLLEY CONCRETING BENCHMARK 80 H'CAP – 1000M

I AM BOSS – Began awkwardly and bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey N. Tomizawa advised that the gelding was not suited by the fast tempo of tonight’s event.

BUSH CAVIAR – Bumped at the start.

TURBO TEDDY – Steadied from heels near the 500m when BUSH CAVIAR shifted out when not fully clear. Apprentice R. Williams, rider of BUSH CAVIAR, was advised to exercise more care. Held up for clear running for a short distance in the home straight.

THE STOREMAN – Raced wide throughout.

TISANI TOMSO – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer Mr K. Kemp advised that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited when able to obtain the leading position and dictate the tempo of the race, as happened in tonight’s event. He advised that the gelding was also suited by a drop back in class in tonight’s event.

SEQ THE STAR – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

RACE 5: ANTONIO BUILDING PTY LTD BENCHMARK 75 H'CAP – 1625M

EXCELLENT SPIRIT – Bumped at the start.

GOOD JOB BRO – Bumped at the start. Apprentice T. Brooker reported at scale that her mount raced very disappointingly, adding that the gelding travelled well throughout but did not respond to her riding when placed under pressure.

SONGSPUR – Raced wide in the early stages before striding forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1300m.

KING LUDWIG – Overraced in the early stages and was inclined to hang in throughout.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer Mr M. Callaghan advised that at its previous start the gelding choked down despite the use of a tongue-tie and as such he added a cross-over noseband to its gear for tonight’s event, and he felt that explained the improved performance.

RACE 6: SUCCESS REALTY MAIDEN PLATE - 1625M

JERUSALEM – Tightened for room and had to be steadied approaching the 1500m and lost ground when racing inside of HIGHTOWER, which hung in and away from another runner despite the efforts of its rider. Held up for a short distance leaving the 400m.
