RACE 1: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1210M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford apprentice G. Steele, the rider of 4th placegetter MEDAL AFRIQUE, the opportunity of viewing the Stewards’ footage to determine whether she had grounds on which to lodge an objection.

REBEL ROVER – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Brushed the running rail at the 200m and passing the winning post. Apprentice J. Woodhouse reported at scale that the gelding overraced in the early  stages which he attributed to the horse racing in a forward position in today’s event. He added that at the horse’s previous start at Warwick the gelding began poorly and he was able to obtain a position with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had a poor post-race recovery. Apprentice J. Woodhouse was fined $200 for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.

JUST AS LOYAL – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer M. Callaghan stated that the gelding was sore over the hind quarters following its previous start at Doomben and he attributed the improved performance to the horse being fresh from a spell.

MORE LEVERAGE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer L. Clarke was advised that as this was the first time the horse had bled, it will be ineligible to start for a period of 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

AMERICAN SPIRIT – Inclined to lay out and raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 600m.

GIFTOFLIFE – Hampered at the start. Raced wide in the early stages.

THE BRUCE – Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s manners in the enclosure.

HEART OF CORAL – When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, N. Tomizawa reported that he was instructed to attempt to lead on the filly, however the filly failed to respond to his riding from the 400m and proved disappointing. Trainer B. Currie advised that the horse would now be spelled.

LOPE ME GENTLY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SKYLIGHT – Began awkwardly. Brushed with another runner on multiple occasions shortly after entering the home straight.

FUZZY MELON – As Adam Spinks was injured, B. Panya was substituted as rider. Steadied and lost ground near the 900m when tightened for room to the inside of LOPE ME GENTLY, which was taken in by REAL DYNAMITE, which raced  very ungenerously and hung in despite the efforts of its rider. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 200m.

REAL DYNAMITE – Attempted to buck for a short distance after the start. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. Raced  very ungenerously and hung in near the 900m despite the efforts of its rider. Brushed with another runner on multiple occasions shortly after entering the home straight.

RACE 4: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000M

GOT NEWS FOR YOU – Had to be checked and lost ground near the 550m. S. Apthorpe, the rider of HAZARD BAY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GOT NEWS FOR YOU.
