From Toowoomba, Friday 19.01.18, Race 4 – Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of COLPO DI TAMBURO was reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in near the 1000m causing interference to ANGEL DANE (N. Tomizawa) and BACKCHAT (App. R. Ride).

BULLANG – Jockey N. Tomizawa accidentally dropped his whip at the 100m.

BOOMISTA – Raced wide without cover throughout.

SERIOUS SYMPHONY – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer B. Johnson was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the horse racing again.

Race 2: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 870M

DREAM OF ASCOT – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Apprentice N. Keal accidentally dropped his whip at the 200m.

ARCHIE’S SON – Slow to begin. Became awkward on heels near the 700m, and shifted out abruptly.

DEUS – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 700m, and then raced wide for the remainder. Laid in in the home straight.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 3: MITTYS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1625M

REAL MYSTIQUE – Laid in in the home straight. Trainer B. Currie expressed disappointment with the horse’s performance, and was not satisfied with its post-race recovery. Mr. Currie advised that he would have veterinary tests carried out on the mare in the following days, and undertook to report any significant findings to Stewards.

UNIQUE MISTIQUE – Jockey K. Yoshida could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance. Trainer M. Callaghan advised that in light of the poor performance the gelding will now be sent for a spell.

BENICO’S PRINCE – Slow to begin. Jockey G. Geran was fined $100 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Geran’s previous good record in relation to this rule.

CHIEF JOSEPH – Slow to begin.

ELSARAY – Shifted out abruptly on jumping away. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

Race 4: STRATHAYR FILLES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

ELECTRIC ANNA – Raced wide without cover throughout.

PLUCKY PANTHER – As Apprentice T. Williams was ill and unable to fulfil her engagement, Apprentice N. Keal was substituted as rider.

FOXLEIGH – Steadied from heels approaching the 700m.

MASK STEPENNY – Hung out badly throughout, and took no competitive part in the race from near the 700m. Trainer’s representative Mr. Peter Sexton was advised that the filly will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards over a minimum distance of 800m prior to next racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SHAKIRA – Lost the near hind plate in running.

Race 5: PRO-CLEAR COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

SHADOW EMPIRE – Improved onto heels leaving the 800m and shifted wider on the track.

JONDY QUALO – Laid in during the middle stages.

LUMPY – Slow to begin.

SINGAPORE FLING – Laid out rounding the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have tied up.

BUCHINSKI – Raced in restricted room leaving the 200m to the inside of I’M FAVULOUS which shifted in whilst racing greenly.

BEL BEAU – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer K. Kemp in relation to the late gear change of blinkers and tongue-tie off, and tips on. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey N. Tomizawa directed his mount out near the 150m to relieve pressure on the runners to his inside and as a result, JONDY QUALO, which was following, clipped heels and blundered. Stewards did not take any action in relation to this incident, as they were satisfied that jockey Tomizawa’s actions were not careless. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding’s near hind leg to have been galloped on.

HUGHSTAAD – Slow to begin.

Race 6: VANDERFIELD HINO CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M

I AM DYNAMIC – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 850m.

SONG ONE – When questioned by Stewards in relation to his riding, Apprentice N. Keal advised that he was instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position, and when the gelding was caught wide in the early stages he elected to ride the horse along for some distance in an endeavour to comply with those instructions, whilst also obtaining a position closer to the rail. After viewing the Stewards patrol footage, Apprentice Keal acknowledged that there was an opportunity to obtain a position one out one back near the 900m, however he had already committed to pushing forward to a position outside the leader, which he ultimately attained near the 800m. Stewards noted the explanation.

WE BUILT THIS CITY – Held up on the heels of a tiring runner from the 600m until a point leaving the 500m. Steadied near the 300m before again being held up for some distance approaching and passing the 200m.

GENERAL COS – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start. Jockey R. Williams lost the use of her near side rein over the concluding stages.

CASSE BLEU – Brushed the running rail near the 900m and, as a result, the mare became unbalanced.

CANTON ROAD – Steadied from heels and shifted wider on the track at the 700m and, as a result, raced 3 wide for the remainder.

EMPRESS ZHAO – Held up on the heels of a tiring runner and unable to improve from the 600m until turning for home.

SCRIPTS – Raced in restricted room near the 1300m to the inside of WINSOME SAM which was taken in by GLENBAWNS DUTCHESS (App. E. Ljung) which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice E. Ljung was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Dann advised that the horse will now be spelled immediately.

CROSSING THE TEE – Raced 3 wide with cover.

Race 8: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

GOLDEN DEPART – Tightened for room at the start.

ROYAL TONE – Tightened for room at the start. Apprentice D. Graham reported that due to the fast early tempo the gelding settled further back in the field than she had anticipated and, for that reason, she was forced to place her mount under pressure to improve earlier than she had anticipated. She added that, as a result, the horse ran on only fairly over the concluding stages.

CALCETINES – Slow to begin.

TAHITIAN PRINCE – Slow to begin. Made heavy contact with the running rail of its own accord near the 900m.
