Race 1: FURNEYS CLLAS 2 H’CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.

WINE BARREL – Hampered between TIMETUS and RICH TRADITION which shifted out slightly on jumping away. Had a tendency to lay in in the early part of the home straight placing its rider at some disadvantage.

DEUS – Jumped with its head in the air. Had a tendency to get its head in the air passing the 700m whilst being restrained at the heels of EXCEEDINGLY KOOL.

MR CHOW – Caught wide in the early stages, and was restrained to a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field near the 800m.

SHE’S A KICKER – Hung out rounding the home turn placing its rider at a some disadvantage.

STAR PAINTER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RICH TRADITION – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

Race 2: M&K CONSTRUCTION GROUP RATINGS BAND 0-58 H’CAP – 1200M

KAHNEMAN – Slightly hampered on jumping away.

ALMAZAN – Caught wide approaching the first turn before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 800m, and from that point commenced to overrace despite the efforts of its rider. When questioned by Stewards regarding the tactics adopted, Apprentice E. Ljung advised that her instructions were to go forward and obtain the lead if possible. Apprentice Ljung added that after beginning fairly she urged her mount forward and, in doing so, had to do a little more work than she would have liked to obtain the position outside the leader rounding the first turn. Apprentice Ljung further added that it was not her intention to remain in a joint leader position, and when she attempted to restrain the gelding it refused to settle and commenced to overrace despite her efforts, and at a point passing the 500m commenced to lose ground. Stewards accepted the explanation as they were mindful of the gelding’s mannerisms.

REDHAZE – Slow to begin.

SHEAR VOGUE – When questioned by Stewards regarding the tactics adopted on the mare, Apprentice H. English explained that her instructions were to make use of the inside barrier and hold the lead if possible which is consistent with the horse’s usual racing pattern. Apprentice English further stated that when ALMAZAN joined SHEAR VOGUE in the lead passing the 800m, her mount commenced to overrace. She added that she would have liked to steady the speed at that point of the race if possible, however she was unable to do so due to the mare overracing. Stewards accepted the explanation.

Race 3: QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1300M

SAN VINCENZO – Overraced in the early stages, and got its head in the air on a number of occasions passing the 800m.

STORMY GREY – Had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

DAZZLE EM SID – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Jockey S. Apthorpe was reminded of his obligations regarding his whip use.

TISANI GREY – Raced 3 wide after passing the 700m.

HIGH AFRICAINE – Began awkwardly.

Race 4: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 PLATE – 1625M

CALCETINES – Slow to begin.

QUIERO – Prior to leaving the enclosure, the tongue tie became displaced and the gelding was returned to the tie-up stall to have it refitted before proceeding to the barriers.

BY THE LAW – Slow to begin. Slightly cramped for room approaching the winning post when racing to the outside of D’LEEAJET, and to the inside of SHEZA GOOD GIRL (R. Goltz), which shifted in slightly. Jockey R. Goltz was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

ADORATO – As C. Franklin was indisposed due to illness, L. Tilley was substituted as rider.

FLYING COLOURS – Hampered on jumping away.

SHEZA GOOD GIRL – Held up from the 500m until entering the straight.

HUGHSTAAD – Declared a late scratching at 7.50am. At a subsequent inquiry, Trainer Ms. P. Kalinowski was fined the sum of $400 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful that the late scratching cost an emergency a start in the race.

Race 5: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY OPEN H’CAP – 1050M

GULLY COMMAND – Began awkwardly. Slightly cramped for room to the inside of HARD STRIDE passing the 600m. Apprentice S. Sweeney was fined $100 for using the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Apprentice Sweeney’s recent good record in relation to this rule.

G’DAY OLD MATE – Overraced for a short distance passing the 900m. Commenced to weaken rounding the home turn and finished tailed off. Trainer B. Squair advised that is now his intention for the gelding to be retired from racing.

KLAMMER – Declared a late scratching at 5.10pm due to transportation difficulties.

Race 6: ART & SOUL MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for DI BANDIT VEGA (G. Geran) falling after passing the 350m which resulted in G. Geran being dislodged, and which also resulted in ROSIE’S TIARA (App. S. Sweeney) blundering after making contact with the fallen horse and also dislodging its rider. After taking evidence from jockeys S. Bogenhuber, Beau Appo and Apprentice E. Ljung, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a date to be fixed to allow jockey G. Geran to give evidence when medically fit and able to do so. G. Geran was transported to hospital by ambulance for treatment and observation. Apprentice S. Sweeney did not appear to suffer any serious injury, however Stewards recommended that she seek medical attention, and also advised her that she will be required to obtain a medical clearance prior to riding again. Both D DI BANDIT VEGA and ROSIE’S TIARA underwent veterinary examinations and were clear of any injury.

OPTIMISTIC HEART – Had to be steadied approaching the 500m when cramped for room whilst racing to the inside of MAHRATTA (A. Best) which shifted in. Jockey A. Best was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in the future.

ROCKING OSSIE – Began awkwardly and was heavily bumped on jumping away. Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of HUGHSTAAD which laid in slightly passing the 500m. Held up rounding the home turn and had some difficulty securing clear running until a point approaching the 150m.

ROSIE’S TIARA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

FOXLEIGH – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

QUEEN OF HAVANA – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 7: PRYDE’S EASIFEED QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1200M
The start time of this race was amended to 9.12pm to enable a further ambulance to arrive on track, and to allow jockey Geran to be stabilised by ambulance personnel before being transported to hospital.

Prior to the running of this race, Stewards inspected the track in the presence of the track manager, and deemed it suitable for racing.

MISHANI RAINMAN – Slightly hampered on jumping away. Had a tendency to shift out under pressure over the final 200m.

SINGAPORE FLING – Raced keenly in the lead in the early and middle stages. When questioned by Stewards, jockey S. Bogenhuber reported that her mount travelled well until placed under pressure coming to the home turn, and proved very disappointing in the home straight.

GOLD MONARCH – Trainer T. Webb was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Got its head in the air shortly after the start whilst being restrained to obtain a trailing position.
