SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Toowoomba – Saturday 26 October 2019
Stewards reconvened an inquiry from Race 4 on Saturday 26 October 2019, and obtained evidence from Apprentice M. Wishart, the rider of INDISPENSABLE, in relation to an incident over the concluding stages.  Apprentice Wishart subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 131(a) in that she permitted her mount to shift out over the concluding stages when insufficiently clear of CRAZY GOOD (App. W. Peel) resulting in that runner having to be checked to avoid the heels of INDISPENSABLE.  Apprentice Wishart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 9 November 2019 and conclude at midnight on Thursday 21 November 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Apprentice Wishart’s guilty plea, however they were also mindful of her poor record in relation to this rule.

GENERAL

As jockey R. Plumb was not attending the meeting today due to personal reasons, a riding replacement was made in Race 7 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: LUKE BROOKMAN ELECTRICAL CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1300M

ROSENDAHL RED – Jockey G. Geran reported that his mount was held up rounding the home turn and, as a result, it was left flat-footed when the rest of the field sprinted. He added that, in his opinion, the mare would be better suited when racing over further distances.

PRINCESS CAVALLO – Steadied from the heels of ROSENDAHL RED when that runner shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m. Jockey G. Geran, the rider of ROSENDAHL RED, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future.

HYDRANGEA – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. When questioned by Stewards regarding the below market expectation performance, jockey J. Oliver advised that after receiving a minor bump shortly after the start, his mount settled further back in the field than anticipated. He added that the mare was back in distance today after its last start win at Gatton over 1400m, however he could offer no excuse for the performance today. Trainer M. Currie advised that he was not entirely dissatisfied with the performance bearing in mind that the mare was back in distance today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

INVINCIBLE DREAM – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Forced wider on the track by another runner approaching the 700m and then got its head in the air whilst being eased.

NIVO – The mare, which has not raced since October 2018, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice N. Fazackerley was reminded of his obligation to ride his mount out to the conclusion of the race.

BRAY – Tightened for room shortly after the start and, as a result, clipped heels and lost ground.

The start of this race was delayed when KRUSTALLOS, which refused to load, was declared a late scratching by Stewards at 6.20pm. On the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on KRUSTALLOS be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

0 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #11

LITTLE ALBERT – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in in the home straight.

NAVAL STRIKE – Clipped heels and blundered shortly after the start and lost considerable ground when EXCEPTIONAL BELLE shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

EXCEPTIONAL BELLE – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start whilst being eased from heels, and then raced greenly for the remainder. Trainer S. Hilton was advised that the filly will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing.

MISS BULITZ – Became fractious in the enclosure and made contact with the fence on a number of occasions. The filly underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Trainer P. Sexton was advised that a warning will be placed on the filly’s pre-race manners. Bumped near the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 6: BLAKE LEIFELS PAINTING MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

JONDY QUALO – Hung in throughout. Trainer J. Thomas will be advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.

Oliver reported that despite incidents near the 1200m and the 350m he could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance today. Trainer L. Hatch will be questioned in the coming days in relation to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1200m in which KEYHOLE (App. Z. White) was checked from heels and lost ground when OIA (J. Oliver) was tightened for room by JONDY QUALO (S. Sweedman), which shifted in whilst hanging in. As Stewards could not be satisfied that the incident was attributable to the carelessness of jockey S. Sweedman, they took the matter no further.

Stewards also inquired into an incident near the 350m in which OIA (J. Oliver) had to be eased when placed in restricted room. Stewards established that near the 350m, SWING SHIFT (App. N. Masuda) shifted in whilst laying in, taking SOLDIER POY (E. Ljung) in on to KEYHOLE (App. Z. White), which shifted in marginally placing OIA in restricted room. As Stewards were satisfied that the incident could not be attributed to the carelessness of any one rider, they took the matter no further.

Race 7: THE VICTORIA HOTEL GOONDIWINDI CLASS 3 H’CAP – 2150M
