Race 1: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards reviewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge a protest on behalf of the connections of the 2nd placegetter, MILITARY KINGS, as a result of an incident in the home straight in which the eventual winner, WEALTH’N’POWER, shifted wider on the track in the early stages of the home straight resulting in MILITARY KINGS being forced to alter course. Having reviewed the patrol footage, Stewards elected not to proceed with an objection, particularly bearing in mind the margin between those runners at the conclusion of the race.

BILL OF RIGHTS – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey N. Tomizawa permitted his mount to stride forward to obtain the leading position near the 1200m.

LOVE RUSH – Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn.

MISTER MAGNETIC – Steadied from heels near the 1500m.

WEALTH’N’POWER – Shifted wider on the track in the early stages of the home straight.

PLATINUM DEAL – Apprentice A. Thompson was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

GAMMA – Slightly slow to begin, and then failed to muster early speed. On return to scale, jockey M. Du Plessis reported that the filly raced greenly and was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages, however from the 600m it commenced to travel more strongly and ran on reasonably in the home straight. He added that, in his opinion, the filly would be better suited with the addition of blinkers moving forward in its preparation. Jockey M. Du Plessis was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 2: WESTON KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

COMMAND’N’CONQUER – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MOSS GO NOW – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner.

Race 4: FURNEYS CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1300M

The start of this race was delayed when BY THE LAW had to be removed from the barriers to enable an adjustment to be made to its bridle.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards permitted Apprentice J. Huxtable, the rider of 2nd placegetter JACKPOT JAY, to view the patrol footage over the concluding stages to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against JUNCTION being declared the winner. After viewing the films, Apprentice Huxtable elected not to proceed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

GREAT KEPPELL – Buffeted between runners for a short distance near the 1200m.

JUNCTION – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was ridden forward by its rider to obtain a position closer to the rail and, as a result, commenced to overrace and settled further forward than anticipated.

REEF KNOT – On return to scale, Apprentice A. Thompson reported that from the wide barrier he was forced to work early to obtain a forward position and, as a result, the mare commenced to overrace in the early stages. He added that, from this point, his mount travelled comfortably throughout however when placed under pressure, the mare failed to run on as he had expected and proved disappointing. Trainer L. Hatch advised that, in his opinion, the work that the mare had to do in the early stages was the major contributing factor to its disappointing performance today. He added that he will now look to freshen the mare up before making a determination about where it will next race.

BONSEA – Steadied to avoid heels near the 900m.

Race 5: BARRIER REEF POOLS OPEN H’CAP – 1300M

Race 6: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1625M

The start of this race was delayed to enable the farrier to refit the off hind plate to COASTAL PRINCE behind the barriers.

SAYED – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which tailed off, revealed no apparent abnormalities. The trainer’s representative advised that the gelding will now be retired.

MR TICKETS – Checked to avoid heels approaching the 1400m, and shifted wider on the track. After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey J. Orman restrained his mount to a rearward position to obtain cover near the 1100m. Steadied to avoid heels near the 200m and, as a result, was forced wider on the track.

LI’L RODGE – Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped heavily by another runner near the 200m.

BERNIE’S TIGER – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Had difficulty securing clear running near the 200m, and shifted out making heavy contact with LI’L RODGE.

BRUMBY JACK – Checked near the 1500m, and brushed the running rail when placed in restricted room.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 1500m in which SCOUTABOUT (M. Hellyer) and THE EQUALIZER (App. B. Nothdurft) were both tightened for room and lost ground.  M. McGillivray, the rider of TOGA PICTA, was subsequently found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 1500m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of THE EQUALIZER and SCOUTABOUT which resulted in both of those runners both being tightened for room and losing ground. Jockey McGillivray’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight on Friday 6 March 2020 and expire at midnight on Saturday 14 March 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey McGillivray’s prior good record in relation to this rule.

Race 7: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT QTIS JEWEL QUALIFIER 3YO H’CAP – 1000M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, jockey M. Du Plessis made application to have BOLD STYLE declared a non-runner. After viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that BOLD STYLE had reared simultaneously with the start being effected and, as a result, got its off fore leg over the barrier partition, was unable to jump with the remainder of the field and took not part in the race. As Stewards were satisfied that the sole reason for this incident was the gelding’s own barrier manners, Stewards denied the application for it to be declared a non-runner, and the horse was accordingly declared a confirmed runner. Trainer G. Taylor was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.

RAGING POLE – When being restrained to a position with cover near the 900m, the gelding put in an awkward stride and, as a result, lost ground.

KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

HALLSIDE FANDANGO – Connections advised that, from the wide barrier, it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden in the second half of the field today if circumstances permit. The mare was ridden accordingly.

MAC’S GAL – Lost the near hind plate in running.

FANTASAY – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Apprentice C. Bayliss was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
