GENERAL
 
As B. Pengelly became ill after riding at another venue, a riding replacement was made in Race 2 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
As W. O’Connell was unable to arrive on course to fulfil his engagement in Race 2 due to transport difficulties, a riding replacement was made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: CATHOLICCARE BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1050M
 
I AM THE GENERAL – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer T. Banks advised that he was unable to explain the gelding’s previous form as it was having its first start for his stable today. He added that the gelding had been working exceptionally well in preparation for today’s race, and had also been successful in a jump out prior to today’s first up run.
 
MAC’S BOY – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
GLOBAL FACTOR – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with another runner and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the mare’s off fore heel bulb.
 
MAC’S GAL – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
GOLDEN SYMPHONY – Bumped on jumping away. Steadied from heels at the 800m.
 
DAISY’S APART – Raced ungenerously whilst hanging out rounding the home turn.
 
LAMPLIGHT LILI – Bumped on jumping away. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
MISS DYNAMIC – Jumped in the air at the start and made heavy contact with the barrier partition, and was then tightened for room when bumped heavily and lost ground. Checked from heels when crossed by another runner near the 900m. Steadied from heels whilst racing ungenerously near the 700m. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey E. Ljung advised that, in her opinion, the interference suffered by her mount at the start, and the check it received near the 900m, were the major contributing factors to its poor performance today. She added that the filly travelled strongly throughout the race, but when asked to quicken her mount failed to respond as she had expected, and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the filly’s near hind tendon.
 
Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 950m in which GOLDEN SYMPHONY and GLOBAL FACTOR were both tightened for room and lost ground. Jockey J. Woohouse, the rider of LAMPLIGHT LILI, subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that near the 950m he permitted his mount to shift in resulting in GOLDEN SYMPHONY (S. Bogenhuber) and GLOBAL FACTOR (App. N. Fazackerley) being tightened for room and losing ground. Jockey Woodhouse’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence at midnight on Saturday 14 March 2020, and conclude at midnight on Sunday 22 March 2020. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Woodhouse’s guilty plea and his prior good record in relation to this rule.
 
Race 2: CARBAL MEDICAL SERVICES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
 
FAKE TAN – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. On return to scale, jockey N. Evans reported that his mount commenced to overrace in the middle stages and, when he was unable to adequately restrain the gelding, he was forced to allow it to stride forward from passing the 800m. He added that from this point the gelding commenced to hang out and proved difficult to ride, before yielding ground from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Hubbard advised that in light of the horse’s performance today, it will now be sent for a spell.
 
MIGHTY QUINN – Improved onto heels and was steadied near the 700m.
 
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Raced ungenerously with its head in the air near the 900m, and was checked to avoid the heels of MISHANI COURAGE which was also racing ungenerously and shifted in abruptly when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOARING ARROW.
 
Race 3: ST GEORGE AHC CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1210M
 
REEF KNOT – On return to scale, jockey J. Oliver reported that his mount travelled well throughout, in what he felt was an advantageous position, however when placed under pressure from passing the 500m the mare failed to respond to his riding as he had anticipated, and ran on only fairly in the home straight. He added that, in his opinion, the mare may not have backed up from its recent trip to Rockhampton where it was successful.
 
THE IRONS – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
Race 4: SWIN MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
 
ABITOFACARD – Bumped at the start.
 
LAZARO – Slow to begin.
 
VICTORY IS MINE – The gelding, which has not raced since March 2018, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
BRASH – Began only fairly, and was then bumped shortly after the start and lost further ground. Bumped when tightened for room near the 600m. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
TAXI CRAB – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
DOTTI DEAR – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping another runner. Jockey E. Ljung reported that her mount was inclined to hang in throughout, and at various stages proved difficult to ride.
 
SWIFT OVER – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority.
 
TINY TEE – Steadied to avoid heels near the 150m, and shifted outwards to secure clear running, when MYKISS FROMA ROSE (N. Tomizawa) shifted in when not completely clear. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded as a result of this incident.
 
SHEEZE DELISH – After hearing submissions from trainer M. Boland, Stewards permitted the filly to race without blinkers today. Nevertheless, Mr. Boland was fined $200 for failing to effect a gear change by the prescribed time. Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
Race 5: MANDANDANJI LIMITED QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1110M
 
After rearing over in the enclosure, KOLLUR was declared a late scratching at 7.35pm on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on KOLLUR be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 7.35pm:

29 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5
30 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
30 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9

CUTABRI – Raced greenly throughout and tailed off. Trainer C. White was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
DOCTOR COSTELLO – Disappointed for a run rounding the home turn, and was shifted to the inside to secure clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GO FACTOR – Bumped on jumping away.
 
VINCIT – Knuckled on jumping away and, as a result, jockey Ljung’s saddle shifted backwards, placing her at some disadvantage for the remainder of the event.
 
ELA BEACH – On return to scale, jockey G. Colless reported that his mount had a tendency to hang out throughout. He also advised that his saddle shifted to the off side in running which placed him at a disadvantage, particularly over the final 50m where he was unable to fully test his mount. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in its off hind leg. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
STAR MINX – Bumped heavily on jumping away and lost ground.
 
WHY NOT ME – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: SWIN PATHWAYS PROGRAM QTIS 3YO BENCHMARK 62 H’CAP – 1640M
 
PRINCESS SPARKLES – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey B. Thornton advised his mount travelled well throughout, but when asked to quicken it failed to respond to his riding, raced flat and, in his opinion, proved disappointing today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be exhibiting an abnormal lower respiratory noise. Trainer M. Wilson undertook to report back to Stewards in relation to the horse’s post-race recovery.
 
SPIRITUAL ROSE – Raced ungenerously with its head in the air for a short distance near the 1100m. Jockey A. Fancourt could offer no tangible explanation for the filly’s seemingly disappointing performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 7: SHREK ROCKS CLIFFORD PARK MAIDEN H’CAP – 1640M
 
LEICABLE – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Lost the off fore plate in running.
 
ROYAL GEORGE – After being caught wide in the early and middle stages, jockey B. Ainsworth permitted her mount to stride forward and secured a position outside the leader near the 900m.
 
SKYQUAKE – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Race 3 wide from the 800m. Laid out rounding the home turn. Apprentice M. Shimodaira was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer K. Jones advised that after the mare’s previous two starts the rider had indicated that the horse would be better suited racing over a mile and, for this reason, he elected to run the mare in this race. He added that, whilst he had expected an improved performance, he was somewhat surprised that it was successful today.
 
MOZART’S MUSE – Restrained for some distance passing the 1400m and lost ground.
 
REG ‘N’ KATH – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey S. Bogenhuber permitted her mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1100m. Momentarily raced in restricted room rounding the home turn.
 
OUR RED JET – Momentarily held up whilst attempting a narrow run rounding the home turn.
