GENERAL

As P. Randall was not attending the meeting today due to illness, riding replacements were made in Races 4 and 9 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN PLATE – 1850M

THE SEVEN FALLS – Slow to begin. Clipped heels and blundered near the 800m when awkwardly placed at the heels of HALEIGHOZAE, which lost ground whilst being restrained, and when CECILE, which was racing to the outside, shifted in marginally after being momentarily forced wider on the track at that point. As Stewards could not be satisfied that any of the riders had ridden in a careless manner, they took the matter no further and deemed it a racing incident.

TOUCAN SAM – Overraced in the early and middle stages and proved difficult to restrain and, as a result, was forced to race in a 3 wide position.

HALEIGHOZAE – Slow into stride.

CECILE – Slow to begin.

SHIMMER LAKE – Lost its near side winker on the home turn.

RAGI MAC – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Race 2: WESTON KITCHENS QTIS 2YO CLASS 1 PLATE – 870M

BETTER BE GREAT – Hung out rounding the home turn.

SPIRITOMO – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

PATTY’S FORTUNE – Raced greenly throughout.

SIZZLELOVER – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition.

COYNES ROAD – Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 3: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 870M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the Chief Steward to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of the connections of the 3rd placegetter, MAGIC INK, against ARROW EXPRESS being placed 2nd due to interference in the home straight. After viewing the patrol footage, Stewards elected not to proceed with the objection and declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

ACCEPTILE – Slow to begin.

MAGIC INK – Disappointed for a run near the 200m when ARROW EXPRESS shifted in under hard riding and, as a result, MAGIC INK was forced to shift out to secure clear running. Apprentice E. MacPherson, the rider of ARROW EXPRESS, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future, and that she should stop and straighten her mounts sooner than she did on this occasion.

ARROW EXPRESS – Raced in restricted room to the inside of SYLVESTER which was taken in by WALL STREET TYCOON which shifted in marginally near the 500m. Jockey J. Morrow, the rider of WALL STREET TYCOON, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in the future. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn.

SPARTAN JET – Bumped by another runner near the 150m.

SYLVESTER – Raced in restricted room to the inside of WALL STREET TYCOON which shifted in marginally near the 500m.

Following the running of this race, Apprentice J. Morrow was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers after becoming ill, and was stood down from his remaining engagement. Apprentice Morrow was subsequently transported to hospital via ambulance for further observation. A riding replacement was made in Race 6 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice Morrow will be advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

To enable a replacement ambulance to arrive on course, the remaining races were put back one race with the start time of Race 9 amended to 5.19pm.

Race 4: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

LICENCE TO ROCK – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

HEARTS LIKE OURS – Bumped on jumping away.

SILVAPLANA – After being caught wide in the early stages, the mare was restrained to a position with cover passing the 700m.

GOLDEN JAZZ – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner. Momentarily steadied near the 700m when SHELLONA BEACH shifted in whilst laying in despite the efforts of its rider.

SHELLONA BEACH – Raced in restricted room when MITHU shifted out marginally and ACEPLAY was steadied when taken in marginally by SILVAPLANA.

Race 5: HYGAIN CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

The start of this race was delayed when PULLA SWIFTY proved difficult to load.

HEADSPACE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

EL PRADOS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back in the field than anticipated. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels near the 900m.

AURORA CHARM – Slow into stride.

SUKOSHI – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CUPID’S AFFAIR – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

JAZZY’S ANGEL – Dipped on jumping.

MISS LUCINDA – Severely tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

INSTABEATS – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout.

PULLA SWIFTY – As L. Tilley was to be overweight, Apprentice E. MacPherson was substituted as rider when no other senior rider was available. Stewards accepted jockey Tilley’s explanation regarding his inability to make the horse’s allotted weight.

Following the running of this race, a participant required medical attention from Queensland Ambulance Officers resulting in the start times of the remaining races being amended as follows:

Race 6 – 4.51pm
Race 7 – 5.19pm
Race 8 – 5.52pm
Race 9 – 6.26pm

Race 6: FOCUS HR CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

CHICAGO O’BRIEN – Began awkwardly.

I AM COURAGE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ADAMDEEANT – Hung out from the 400m.

MADAM OF THE HOUSE – Lunged forward in the barriers just prior to the start being effected and made heavy contact with the front gate. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had sustained abrasions to its forehead.

TAPA BONNIE – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Stewards questioned Apprentice E. MacPherson in relation to her riding of TAPA BONNIE, which raced in a 4 wide position on the pace without cover throughout the race. Apprentice MacPherson  advised that after beginning awkwardly she rode the filly along in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a forward position, however when the runners drawn to her inside maintained their position, she was forced to race in a 4 wide position. She added that from the 800m she attempted to restrain the filly to a position with cover, however as a result of being ridden along early, the filly commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain. After having the opportunity to review the patrol footage, Apprentice MacPherson agreed with Stewards that she had erred in not making a greater effort to restrain the filly to a position with cover from the 800m. Stewards took the matter no further having regard to Apprentice MacPherson’s relative inexperience as an apprentice rider.

HIDDEN ACTION – Shifted out abruptly to avoid heels near the 200m.

Race 7: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1625M

COLUMN – Apprentice N. Fazackerley could offer no explanation for the poor performance of the gelding which he advised felt awkward in its action from the 500m and weakened badly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had pulled up distressed. Trainer T. Pascoe was advised that unless his own veterinary surgeon examines the horse in the coming days and detects any significant findings, the horse will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.

CONCAVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

STORMY GREY – Raced 3 wide throughout.

REPULSE – Forced to alter course outwards near the 150m to secure clear running.

RICHEST – Jockey E. Ljung could offer no explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery.

RISING KING – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

UNO TOPS – Reluctant to stride out in the early stages and lost ground. Held up badly at the heels of a weakening runner for a considerable distance leaving the 500m. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 350m.

KING BART – Steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room when crossed by RICHEST near the 1100m.

Race 8: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 1100M

WAIT A MINUTE – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

JELVISS – Jockey M. Murphy could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding which he advised never travelled strongly at any stage of the race. The stable representative, Mr. R. Van de Velde, could also offer no tangible explanation for the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

SECONDOFMAY – Jockey M. Schrapel was reprimanded for using his whip on the horse which was out of contention.

MISS AMANDA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

ZANAZOU – Stewards permitted jockey M. Palmer to ride the filly 0.5kg over its allotted weight. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

JUST AS LOYAL – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Callaghan was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to next racing.

STARCASTER – Raced wide with cover throughout. On return to scale, jockey C. Taylor reported that his mount felt short in its action during the race and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

IN HER ZONE – Disappointed for a run near the 500m before being shifted to the outside to secure clear running.

RAIN ON ME – Began awkwardly.

RUBY RUSH – Slow to begin and lost ground. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn.

WEARETENFORTYEIGHT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SOLO ARTIST – As L. Tilley was to be in excess of 1 kilogram overweight, J. Woodhouse was substituted as rider. Stewards permitted jockey Woodhouse to ride the mare 0.5kg over its allotted weight.
