QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY 16th July 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – Out 5m the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, D LaneClerk of Scales – S FaheyJudge – M Fahey & B PolestraVeterinarian – Dr S McGinnessSwab Attendants – D MacDonaldStarters – B Mallory & C Higgins GENERAL Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer E Ensby for the late declaration of riders on his runners in Races 2 & 3. Stewards permitted the following overweights; Race 7- Jockey S Apthorpe +0.5kgRace 8- Jockey S Apthorpe +0.5kg Race 1: THE FARM PROTECTORS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100m The start of the event was delayed when the farrier was late to arrive on course and ARTIE’S DESTINY required his attention. WHISTLE RULER- As no Apprentice rider was available Stewards permitted Jockey C Eaton to be substituted as rider of the gelding. Raced wide for the majority. UNIFICATION- Began awkwardly and laid out soon after bumping another runner. Inclined to race keenly for the majority and laid out from the 550m. WINDJANA- Bumped soon after the start and was crowded soon after. YAMUMZA- Bumped soon after the start and was crowded soon after having to be steadied and lost ground as a result, was inclined to over-race for some distance thereafter. PIZZO- Obliged to steady and shift out after commencing to race keenly on heels near the 700m. Bumped approaching the 500m. ARTIES DESTINY- Laid in approaching the 500m bumping another runner. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. TAORMINA RHYTHM- Momentarily eased off heels before shifting in to obtain clear running on entering the home straight. Race 2: ENTERPRISE LEGAL CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200m ROGUE STAR- Began awkwardly. Performed below market expectations. App J Molloy advised that after travelling well when asked for an effort rounding the home turn his mount failed to respond. Trainer L Hatch stated he was disappointed with the performance and had expected a forward showing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery with some abnormal pulmonary sounds. Trainer L Hatch undertook to have the gelding endoscopically examined and advise Stewards of the results prior to the geldings next start. SPIN THAT WHEEL- Began awkwardly and bumped. SADDLE BOY- Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping another runner. Laid in under pressure down the running. TORBRECK- Bumped on jumping. Momentarily crowded leaving the 800m. MT MORK SHARK- Bumped on jumping. SAM’S A NATURAL- Began awkwardly. Shifted in leaving the 800m momentarily crowding TORBRECK. App M Savva was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide for the majority. KING BART- When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding Jockey C Eaton advised that, in her opinion, with the lack of speed her mount settled in an uncharacteristically forward position which it appreciated in the finish after travelling comfortably throughout. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 3: BPI TOOWOOMBA RATINGS BAND 0-62 HANDICAP 1300m I AM A HIT- Slow into stride. Jockey J Grob was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. ADALISSA- Slow into stride. Momentarily crowded approaching the 500m. Steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running leaving the 100m. CANNY CAT- Momentarily crowded passing the 800m and again passing the 500m. BULL DIMPLE RUM- Shifted in marginally crowding CANNY CAT at the 800m and again passing the 500m. App M Kennedy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstance. Race 4: 1EQUINE – ATHLETE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1850m ELEUTHERA- Began awkwardly. Bumped with LITTLE JERRY passing the 750m. Obliged to steady off the heels of GOT THE LOT passing the 400m. GOTTA BE FIRST- Dwelt in the barrier. Obliged to restrain off heels when the pace slackened passing the 1600m. Momentarily steadied off heels passing the 1300m. ANGELS SHARE- Over-raced passing the 1600m and was inclined to race keenly for some distance thereafter. GOT THE LOT- Raced keenly passing the 1600m. Near the 1400m the saddle shifted forward placed App W Peel at a significant disadvantage from that point and as a result the gelding was eased out of the race near the 400m. KUZCO LAD- Over-raced passing the 1500m. BETTER ETHICS- Raced keenly passing the 1400m. Shifted in passing the 1300m causing GOTTA BE FIRST to be momentarily steadied. App J Molloy was advised to exercise greater care and ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Stewards determined the slow pace at this stage of the event to be a contributing and mitigating factor in the incident. LITTLE JERRY- Shifted out marginally passing the 750m before being brushed by another runner and then buffeted between runners. THE MINIVAN- Improved into a marginal run passing the 750m brushing with LITTLE JERRY, which was buffeted between runners as a result. Jockey K Zechner was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR131(a). Race 5: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1850m VENOMOUS- Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 1000m whilst making a forward move and settled outside DISCO BEATS approaching the 700m. STAR DIVA- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Shifted in under pressure down the running. BUMP’N’RUN raced keenly passing the 1600m. DISCO BEATZ- Raced keenly passing the 1500m. Commenced to tire from the 550m and failed to let down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities outside of a poor post-race recovery. HE’S VIRAL- Raced keenly passing the 1400m. DREAM CANDY- Shifted wider when racing keenly on heels passing the 900m. Race 6: MOCO FOOD SERVICES QTIS 2yo & 3yo MAIDEN PLATE 1200m The start of the event was delayed approximately 5 (five) minutes whist repairs were made to the steering mechanism of the barrier which needed to be shifted immediately after the commencement of the event. WHYTEEPEE- Began awkwardly. Inclined to shift in under pressure down the running. CONFETTI- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Raced greenly for the majority, bumping the inside running rail near the 900m. Raced wide form the 500m. TOMBOYS SPIRIT- Restrained off heels when crossed by another runner passing the 1000m. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running. MONTANNA LADY- Shifted in when not fully clear of TOMBOYS SPIRIT passing the 1000m causing that runner to be restrained. App A Jones was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident and advised to ensure she is fully clear when shifting ground in future. SKATER- Laid out rounding the home turn. Race 7: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEC MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100m ANTHROPICA- Bounded in the air as the start was effected. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer C Geran advised that he had expected a forward showing with the mare having been pleasing in its work leading into the event, adding the mare had been modestly supported by the stable. Stewards noted the explanation. STIRILING DIVA- Began awkwardly. Raced wide from the 700m. GEORGIE’S BOY- Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start. MR BEGLEY- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Laid out marginally soon after the start. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. KEFA- Raced wide in the early stages. SANDGATE ROAD- Momentarily steadied when placed on restricted room passing the 800m. Obliged to ease when racing keenly on heels near the 550m. Crowded and steadied passing the 400m. WHISKEY ROW- Shifted in passing the 800m placing SANDAGATE ROAD in restricted room before being quickly corrected by its rider. Jockey S Apthorpe was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances as a result of this incident. GENTLE LASS- Laid out marginally passing the 400m crowding SANDGATE ROAD. GOING TO THE SUN- Raced wide for the majority. MANDALONG FLAG- On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the first such occurrence Trainer B Puckeridge was advised the gelding would now incur a 3 (three) month ban from racing and be subject to a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Stewards prior to again being permitted to race under the provisions of AR79. Race 8: HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1625m GRINZINGER HULK- Trainer A Park was reprimanded under the provisions of LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Trainer A Park was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR106(1) for presenting the gelding to the mounting yard with the incorrect gear. Momentarily crowded passing the 800m. Jockey S Apthorpe was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 9 occasions, 4 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. HEART OF MARBLE- After becoming fractious in the barrier underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. App M Savva was also examined by QAS officers and passed fit to fulfil her engagement. Trainer K Kemp was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners as a result of the incident. Bumped on jumping. Over-raced passing the 1500m. ALATUN- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly from the 1400-1200m. Raced wide down the back straight. MR LANNIGAN- Raced wide down the back straight. Steadied passing the 900m to shift in and obtain a position closer to the inside running rail. KIZMET MAGIK- Commenced to tire from the 400m. ST MORTIZ- App J Molloy was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
