QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB – SATURDAY 15 OCTOBER 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – +5 metresPENETROMETER – 4.8 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – G. KilpatrickStarter – B Mallory & C Higgins GENERAL Stewards permitted the following weight variations:Race 7: TWO SHADES – C. Taylor 54kg (+1kg) = 55kg Stewards accepted the reasons tendered regarding the late rider declarations for trainer M. Kropp in races 1, 5, 6 and 7. Trainer J. Sims was reprimanded pursuant to LR 67(1) for the late rider declaration for SUNIKI engaged in race 3. Rider M. Murphy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 128(1) for failing to arrive on course within the required time frame permitted for his riding engagement in race 1. Race 1: JOHN WALKLEY CELEBRATION QTIS Three-Year-Old MaidenPlate 1200 metres The start of this event was delayed owing to IRISH SALLY breaking through the front of the barriers and subsequently being declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:55 pm. Upon declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on IRISH SALLY be refunded with the following deductions to apply:1st SPILL THE TEARS - 43c win, 33c place.2nd OUR PEBBLES - 34c place. Trainer K. Geran was advised that IRISH SALLY will require a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again. FIERY RING – Crowded for racing room leaving the 900m and had to be steadied. GLORY OF WAR – Slow to begin. HORNNIC – Laid in approaching the 500m and again laid in approaching the 350m. Rider W. D’Avila reported the gelding raced greenly throughout the event. SPILL THE TEARS – Laid out marginally at the 900m. Approaching the 350m became awkwardly placed at the heels of HORNNIC and had to be steadied when that runner laid inwards.MISS GIDEON - Crowded for racing room leaving the 900m and had to be steadied from the heels of HORNNIC which shifted in when not fully clear. W. D’Avila, the rider of HORNNIC was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Bumped rounding the home turn by OUR PEBBLES which shifted out to improve. OUR PEBBLES – Began awkwardly. Shifted out to improve rounding the home turn and bumped MISS GIDEON. Raced greenly in the home straight when placed under pressure. Race 2: TGS CLUB FOOTBALL RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap1200 metres AND OVER AGAIN – Began awkwardly. Nearing the 900m became awkward at heels and shifted wider. Bumped rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority. ANYWAY YOU WANT IT – Approaching the 900m raced in restricted room to inside of LOUBARD which was taken inwards by BEARNAS. PICCANNINI – Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner approaching the 350m and had to be steadied. Held up rounding the home turn. LOUBARD – Crowed for room by BEARNAS approaching the 900m until ultimately having to be checked from the heels of that runner at point leaving the 800m. P. Randall, the rider of BEARNAS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in and tighten the racing room of LOUBARD approaching the 900m and then continuing to allow BEARNAS to shift in resulting in apprentice C. Collis, the rider of LOUBARD, ultimately having to check his mount to avoid the heels of BEARNAS leaving the 800m and lose its rightful running.Jockey P. Randall had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of twelve (12) days to commence midnight the 15th of October up to and including the 27th of October 2022 before being permitted to resume riding in races on the 28th of October 2022. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of the level of interference suffered to LOUBARD as well as Jockey Randall’s guilty plea and also his record regarding offences pursuant to AR131(a). Jockey P. Randall was advised of his right to internal review. Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn between AND OVER AGAIN and BEARNAS which shifted out. Rider P. Randall (BEARNAS) was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. ALEXANDRA ROAD – Gave ground from the 400m causing inconvenience to trailing runners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on the right hind leg and was subsequently treated by the on course veterinary official. Stewards will follow up with trainer M. Palmer regarding the condition of ALEXANDRA ROAD in the coming days. RED GARTER - Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner rounding the home turn and had to be steadied. BEARNAS – Raced wide in the early stages. SHEINDLIN – Began awkwardly. Race 3: ABC CONTAINER HIRE & SALES BENCHMARK 65 Handicap1200 metres HARRYANDTHETIGER – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider N. Keal advised stewards that the gelding raced keenly in the middle stages however when asked to quicken in the home straight the gelding failed to do so and was in his opinion disappointing in its finishing effort. LOOKS LIKE (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. Held up for clear running leaving the 500m until approaching the 350m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SADDLE BOY – Over-raced in the early stages. Race 4: THE PITTSWORTH POST OFFICE Maiden Handicap 1100 metres The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes owing to RED CUILINN requiring farrier attention upon arrival at the barriers after casting its off-fore plate. FLATTEN THE CURVE – Shortly after the start shifted in and away from AFROGINASOCK resulting in the gelding becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of GODDESS OF DREAMS and having to be steadied. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. FORMULA EXCEL (IRE) - Bumped at the start. RED CUILLIN – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BEAU WITNESS – Raced keenly and had to be steadied from heels leaving the 800m. Held up rounding the home turn. DUTTON RANCH – Slow to begin. OUR WINTER GIRL – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages. WANDERING DREAMS - Began awkwardly and bumped FORMULA EXCEL (IRE). Shifted inwards and contacted the running rail at the 700m and became unbalanced. AFROGINASOCK – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards. GODDESS OF DREAMS – Laid in approaching the 350m. GATEWAYS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid out marginally and had to be checked at the 350m when awkwardly placed to the inside of GODDESS OF DREAMS which laid in marginally. Race 5: TGS FOOTBALL BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1625 metres FIGHTING COMMANDO – Laid in approaching the 900m. Obliged to shift wider rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of JACKSPRAT which laid out and away from OCTAVIAN. JACKSPRAT – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn. GENUINE AL (NZ) - Commenced to over-race approaching the 1400m and shifted out inconveniencing OCTAVIAN. Raced wide from that point onwards. HIGH I CUE – Slow to begin. Checked from the heels of OCTAVIAN nearing the 1300m which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Apprentice J. Molloy, the rider of OCTAVIAN, in the presence of senior rider N. Evans, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in approaching the 1300m when insufficiently clear of HIGH I CUE, resulting in apprentice C. Collis, the rider of HIGH I CUE, having to check his mount to avoid the heels of OCTAVIAN and lose its rightful running.Apprentice J. Molloy had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of eleven (11) days to commence midnight the 27th of October, the completion of a previously incurred suspension, up to and including the 7th of November 2022 before being permitted to resume riding in races on the 8th of November 2022. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of the level of interference suffered to HIGH I CUE as well as apprentice Molloy’s guilty plea and also his record regarding offences pursuant to AR 131(a). Apprentice J. Molloy was advised of his right to internal review. Raced keenly at heels approaching the 1100m and had to steadied on a number of occasions. OCTAVIAN – Momentarily forced wider by GENUINE AL (NZ) approaching the 1400m. Raced in restricted room near the 900m and contacted the running rail. ALIRAAJ (NZ) - As rider N. Evans was delayed arriving on course, stewards permitted S. Lacy as the replacement rider for the gelding. Stewards accepted the reasons for jockey Evans late arrival. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Steadied from the heels of FIGHTING COMMANDO rounding the home turn when that runner shifted wider when awkwardly placed at the heels of JACKSPRAT which laid out and away from OCTAVIAN. BY THE LAW – Stewards questioned trainer J. Hanna regarding the apparent improved performance of the gelding and the tactics adopted on the horse. Mr Hanna advised stewards that the gelding was third up from a spell and appreciated the increase in distance of 1625m adding that BY THE LAW has raced well previously over the course and distance and he was confident of an improved performance of the gelding leading into tonight’s event. He further added that there were no set instructions issued to the rider but was not surprised to see the gelding leading as in the opinion of both himself and rider G. Cartwright there was a lack of early speed in the race and after beginning well BY THE LAW was able to secure a forward position without much effort. Stewards noted the explanation tendered. Race 6: VALE GERRY BLADES Class 1 Plate 1625 metres BUIN ROAD – Slow to begin. After being caught wide in the early stages the rider elected to take hold of the gelding to secure a position closer to the rail at the rear of the field. Steadied from the heels of HEAR HEAR leaving the 1100m. Rider N. Keal was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 7 times before the 100m. CHOSEN DISTANCE – Gave ground over the final 400m. Rider N. Evans advised the gelding weakened from the 400m and felt there may have been something amiss with the horse. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with trainer M. Kropp in the coming days regarding the condition of CHOSEN DISTANCE. CUTABRI – Raced wide until the 800m. HEAR HEAR – Steadied from the heels of VISUAL ELEMENT when that runner lost ground at leaving the 1100m. KYOGLE KID – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Shifted in leaving the 1100m despite the efforts of its rider and tightened the racing room of VISUAL ELEMENT. Shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. ANTHROPICA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Following the running of this event rider M. Savva was assessed by QAS officials after advising she had been struck in the face at the start by mare when it began awkwardly. Rider M. Savva was subsequently cleared of any apparent injury and allowed to fulfill her remaining engagement. VISUAL ELEMENT - Leaving the 1100m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of KYOGLE KID which shifted in when over-racing. Improved onto the heels of KYOGLE KID shortly after entering the home straight and was obliged to alter course. Race 7: HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL TOOWOOMBA MaidenHandicap 1625 metres FLYING JOY – Slow to begin. Laid in for the majority of the event. Shifted in and brushed the running rail leaving the 1100m. Held up and became awkward at heels approaching the 400m. Laid in under pressure leaving the 200m. THREE MORE WISHES – Bumped at the start. CAPTURED IN TIME – Began awkwardly. Apprentice J. Cornish was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 6 times before the 100m. MARMION – Bumped at the start. TWO SHADES – Raced wide until approaching the 1000m. MA DUSHKA – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Race 8: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE Maiden Handicap 1625 metres GIRRAMAY – Over-raced in the early stages before being permitted to stride to the lead approaching the 1200m. A DEVIL'S CHANCE – Slow to begin. DUCHESS BREE – Bumped heavily by WHISKEY ROW approaching the 1300m which shifted out when over-racing at heels. JENESSA – Began awkwardly. Improved onto the heels of INSTANT KARMA approaching the 1200m and had to be steadied. Rider L. McCoy was reprimanded pursuant to AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 7 times before the 100m. KEATON – Laid out at the 400m. Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages. WHISKEY ROW – Commenced to over-race leaving the 1400m after being crossed by INSTANT KARMA and then shifted out, becoming awkward at the heels of GIRRAMAY resulting in WHISKEY ROW shifting wider again and bumping heavily with DUCHESS BREE approaching the 1300m. Apprentice J. Molloy, the rider of INSTANT KARMA, was advised to show greater care when attempting to steady the speed of his mount after assuming the leading position in future circumstances.
