QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – Saturday 18th FEBRUARY 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4; Good 3 after Race 2 RAIL – Out 5metres the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C Warren Stewards – J Childs & D MacDonaldClerk of Scales – S FaheyJudge – M Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr A HopgoodSwab Attendants – R BurchmannStarters – B Mallory & C Higgins GENERAL As App A Donald was not riding at tonight’s meeting due to illness rider replacements were made as per Stewards race day summary. App Donald was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to ride in a race. Stewards permitted the following overweights: Race 4- Jockey M Powell +1/2kgRace 5- Jockey L Tarrant +1/2kg Race 1: MURDOCH LAWYERS RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP 1210m OKAY OKAY- Was fractious in the barrier. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start. Momentarily crowded when laying out passing the 800m. TRUE PATRIOT- After beginning well from the wide barrier was caught wide in the early stages before pressing forward to obtain the lead and a position closer to the inside running rail near the 800m. Stewards questioned Jockey A Allen regarding his riding of the gelding from the 800m. Jockey Allen advised that after obtaining the lead he attempted to gradually ease his mount, not wishing to lose all the momentum he had generated obtaining the lead considering the 58.5kg impost. Jockey Allen advised that his mount had been reluctant to ease and after passing the 600m elected to allow his mount to stride forward again before commencing to tire from the 300m. Stewards noted Jockey Allens explanation. MAHBABY- Shifted in marginally passing the 1000m momentarily crowding ZANAZOU. Jockey G Geran was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. ZANAZOU- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride consequently settled further back than may have been accepted. Momentarily crowded passing the 1000m. Laid in from the 600m-500m crowding another runner near the 550m. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. ANGEL’S VOICE- Momentarily crowded passing the 800m. COURTING ROCK- Laid in passing the 800m momentarily crowding runners to its inside. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. LYNCHED- Raced ungenerously when momentarily crowded passing the 550m. Laid in for the majority and proved difficult to ride out. Trainer W Nugent was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. CADOUIN- Laid in passing the 150m. IN GREAT NIC- Laid in and away from another runner passing the 150m. Race 2: TOOWOOMBA TILES BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP 1000m VAST KAMA- Began awkwardly. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal nay significant abnormalities. COSMIC GOSSIP- Slow into stride. Held up for clear running from the 500-400m. MY BEST EFFORT- Shifted in and away from another runner passing the 900m. Raced keenly after being crossed from the 800-700m. I PROMISE YOU- Raced wide until obtaining the lead and a position closer to the inside running rail near the 700m. KING OF THE DESERT- Bumped the inside running rail leaving the 600m. Shifted ground under pressure down the running. SPINNING SPIRIT- Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3 Race 3: MORT & CO BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1110m TURBOART- Bumped on jumping. SHOTGUN SOCKS- Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly down the back straight. Jockey G Geran was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. WINDJANA- Crowded soon after the start. Hung out for the majority becoming awkwardly placed on heels near the 700m and again near the 300m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L Hatch advised that the stable would look to add Blinkers to the geldings gear in an effort to correct its racing manners, nonetheless, Trainer Hatch was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. BY BY MUSIC- Laid in and crowded WINJANA soon after the start. App S Champkin was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. INCOMPARABLE- Raced keenly in the middle stages. LAI SEE- Raced wide on entering the home straight. Following the running of the event Stewards were made aware that the mare had raced without a tongue tie when it should have been fitted with that piece of gear. At a subsequent inquiry Trainer G Betros pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR227(a) for negligence in that he did fail to fit the tongue tie to the mare. Mr Betros was subsequently fined the sum of $200. Race 4: AQUIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050m RAKU’S CIDER- Slow into stride. CRACKLE CAUSE- Attempted to buck soon after the start and lost ground. Trainer M Frappell was advised the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. JENNATOP- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride before being inconvenienced by another runner which attempted to buck soon after the start. GRIS AMOUT- Slow into stride. Laid out for the majority. GERTIE ORDER- Slow into stride. Improved onto heels having to be eased near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority. YOURALL THAT- Raced wide with no cover for the majority. Checked soon after straightening. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards determined that on straightening TOKYO SINS had been shifting out marginally to improve. TALANTINO, which was improving into a bare run to the outside of that runner, shifted out marginally also bumping with STOP THE MUSIC which had shifted in marginally on rounding the home turn before straightening on entering the home straight. STOP THE MUSIC was subsequently taken out and bumped on the hindquarters by YOURALLTHAT causing STOP THE MUSIC to become unbalanced and shift out further resulting in YOURALLTHAT being checked and losing ground. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any rider/s were responsible no action was taken other than to advise all involved to exercise greater care. TOKYO SINS- Shifted out marginally on straightening. Crowded and bumped passing the winning post. STOP THE MUSIC- Bumped and taken wider on straightening before being bumped on the hindquarters and becoming unbalanced. App S Champkin was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of AR131(b). TALANTINO- Shifted out and away marginally from another runner on straightening bumped with a further runner. Bumped passing the winning post. COTTEE- Shifted in on entering the home straight. Improved onto heels having to be momentarily steadied and shifted in passing the 50m. On returning to scale Jockey A Allen advised that he dropped his whip soon after entering the home straight. Race 5: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050m POSITIVE REWARD- Raced wide in the early and middle stages whilst making a forward move and obtaining the lead and a position closer to the inside running rail passing the 700m. Tired noticeably over the final 100m. DOWN THE BARRELL- Bumped on jumping and was slow into stride. Eased soon after the start to shift inside heels and obtain a position closer to the inside running rail. Shifted out to improve passing the 400m before having to be shifted out further to avoid heels. SUBSTITUTION- Shifted in whilst being pressured in the early stages crowding EMPEROR TEIO. Jockey N Fazackerley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. EMPEROR TEIO- Crowded in the early stages and was obliged to ease momentarily. Shifted out to improve and bumped with another runner passing the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running. APACHE FLASH- Bumped passing the 400m. OUR POLARIS- Shifted out around heels passing the 200m. IM RUSHIN- Laid in under pressure down the running. CYCLONE GUS- Bumped on jumping. Lost an off-fore plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 6: EUREKA STUD QTIS 3yo BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200m IMPOSING TIGER- Bumped and shift out on jumping. MISHANI MISTRESS- Began awkwardly and bumped. WHERE’S TEEKAY NOW- Bumped on jumping. Laid out from the 600m until entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure down the running. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. GRANITE PRINCE- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
