Race 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 3 PLATE (1000M)
 
DEVASTATING – Bumped on jumping.
 
DOCTOR TEEKAY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Hung-out throughout the event. Trainer M. Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
 
MAGNITUDO – On returning to scale App M. Castle advised that, in her opinion, the gelding wasn’t suited by the firmer racing surface.
 
TITANS – Bumped on jumping.
 
STEADY READY – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, particularly in the middle stages, Jockey A. Mallyon stated the colt over-raced throughout the event despite his attempts to have his mount settle in the run. He added in hindsight, he had anticipated the colt to settle when crossing to the fence near the 800m, however when attempting to marginally ease his mount, it commenced to over-race. He further stated it was not his intention to establish such a margin on the field. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
ROOTS'N'ROCKS – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Finished tailed off. Trainer P. Edwards advised it was likely the gelding would now be retired, nonetheless Stewards advised Mr Edwards the gelding would now incur a bar from racing at metropolitan meetings. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CAESARIS – When questioned regarding the performance, App A. Jones stated the mare may not have handled the firmer track conditions, along with the step-up in grade. She further added the mare raced flat throughout the event. Trainer T. Gollan stated in his opinion, the mare which was up in grade, and benefitted from a soft run in its previous start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Gollan advised connections would look to have the mare step up in distance going forward and further undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the mares performance.
 
COMPASSIONATE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: TOOWOOMBA TRUCK SPARES PAT O'SHEA QTIS PLATE (1000m)
 
MISHANI ROCK – Bumped on jumping. Held-up rounding the home turn before bumping the running rail.
 
HERBIE TOWN – Raced wide and without cover for the majority. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
MISHANI OPAL – Momentarily tightened approaching the 800m.
 
DON'TLEAVEMENOW – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly on heels in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MISHANI FIRE – Bumped on jumping.
 
MISHANI SUNSET – Momentarily tightened approaching the 800m. Laid-in rounding the home turn and under pressure in the home straight.
 
THROWUNDERTHEBUS – Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer B Gorman for the late declaration of rider. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Laid in during the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 3: EUREKA STUD FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
SECRET TALES – Leaving the 200m, obliged to restrain and lost ground.
 
VINASTA - Raced wide for the majority.
 
MOTOMISS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WANDA ROX – Began awkwardly. Laid-out for majority of the event.
 
ARGYLE PINK – Inside the 1000m, momentarily inconvenienced when OUTLAWED shifted in. Raced wide and without cover for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 200m, momentarily crowded when commencing to tire. Performed below market expectations. Apprentice C. Graham stated the mare was not suited by the firmer track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
APRIL IN AUGUSTA – Approaching the 1000m commenced to over-race when crossed. Jockey L. Cassidy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that leaving the 150m, he did allow his mount to shift out under riding, in turn directing MISS TAMBO out onto the running of SECRET TALES who was obliged to check and lost ground. Jockey Cassidy’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing 25 September 2023 up to and including 3 October 2023. In assessing penalty, Stewards determined the carelessness and severity of interference in the low range, as well as considered Jockey Cassidy’s good record and guilty plea to be mitigating factors. Jockey Cassidy was advised of his right to an appeal.
 
BEFANA – Passing the 1000m commenced to over-race when crossed before being crowded.
 
COTTEE - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting the fence when leaving the mounting yard and passed fit to start. Slow into stride. Approaching the 900m, improved onto heels and obliged to be momentarily eased.
 
OUTLAWED – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after contacting the fence when leaving the mounting yard and passed fit to start. Passing the 1000m, shifted in when not fully clear of ARYGLE PINK which was obliged to steady, before continuing to tighten ALFA LILY onto BEFANA which was also obliged to steady. Jockey B. Thompson was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
WINTER RAIN – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
MISS TAMBO – Leaving the 150m, directed into the running of SECRET TALES when APRIL IN AUGUSTA shifted out.
 
The racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3 following the running of this event.
 
 
Race 4: AG RIGGING CLASS 6 PLATE (1300m)
 
BRIARS KINGDOM – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Momentarily held up entering the home straight before being shifted wider to obtain clear running. Leaving the 100m, tightened and dictated inwards onto REJOICED, when FLYING JOY shifted in to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SOUTH PARADE – Momentarily crowded soon after the start.
 
REJOICED – Leaving the 100m, checked and lost ground before becoming awkwardly placed on the heels.
 
KIR ROYALE – Leaving the 100m, was bumped on the hindquarters by REJOICED which was obliged to check. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be stepping short in front and to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer’s representative B. Killion was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
FLEETWOOD MACA (NZ) – Began awkwardly and improved onto heels soon after obliging to be steadied.
 
FLYING JOY – Approaching the 500m, improved onto heels. Momentarily held up entering the home straight before being shifted wider to obtain clear running. Jockey N. Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in and dictated BRIARS KINGDOM in onto the line of REJOICED which was obliged to check and lost ground. Jockey Evans’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days, commencing midnight 23 September 2023 up to and including the 4October 2023. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the degree of carelessness and interference to be in the mid-range and determined Jockey Evan’s guilty plea and good record to be mitigating factors. Jockey Evans was advised of his right to an appeal.
 
GRANITE PRINCE – Laid in the early stages of the event. Leaving the 100m, obliged to steady off the heels of REJOICED
 
 
Race 5: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP (1625m)
 
BLACKLOG (NZ) – Approaching the 400m, momentarily held-up before being obliged to shift wider. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
THE IRONS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover until obtaining a position outside the leader at the 900m. Under pressure and commenced to tire rounding the home turn.
 
KRONENBOURG (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
RED TOP – Began awkwardly and bumped. Obliged to shift wider passing the 400m to obtain clear running.
 
STEINBRENNER (NZ) –When the overweight for J. Huxtable was inadvertently not declared, Stewards permitted K. Wilson-Taylor to be declared as the replacement rider. Trainer M. Currie was fined $300 under AR208 for failing to comply with the rider overweight directive. Raced keenly in the early stages. Eased down from the 600m before collapsing prior to the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered cardiac failure and was subsequently found to be deceased. Post-mortem samples were taken for analysis.
 
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Crowded soon after the start. Raced keenly in the back straight. Momentarily held-up rounding the home turn.  
 
CORONA LAD - Became awkwardly placed on heels shortly after the start.
 
EPICURIOUS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and passed fit to start.
 
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS GARDEN CITY GUINEAS (1625m)
 
ADELAD – Blundered on jumping. Raced keenly on heels approaching the 1300m.
 
CAPITAL CEE – When questioned regarding the gelding settling further forward, Jockey B. Thompson stated after the gelding began well, he was reluctant to restrain and took advantage of the good start when there was an apparent lack of pace in the event. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
GLASS OF ROSE – Momentarily crowded soon after the start. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
SHE MINE – Began awkwardly. Held-up rounding the home-turn.
 
RED DEFCON – Momentarily crowded leaving the 1400m. Raced keenly on heels approaching the 1300m. Held-up approaching the 300m before having to be eased and shifted wider to obtain clear running.
 
HUSSY EMPRESS – Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
AVOID THE MISSTRES - Raced wide for the majority. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer I. Turner was advised the filly would now incur a metropolitan bar until its form improved.
 
CRYPTIC SOUND – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
SHY GUY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.  
 
BOBBY SHIRAZ (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 7: TAB TOOWOOMBA CUP (2000m)
 
TAPPY'S LAD (NZ) – Leaving the 800m bumped with another runner. Raced wide for the majority.
 
WAPITI – Momentarily crowded on jumping.
 
BEAUFORT PARK – Raced keenly on heels near the 1400m. Near the 900m hampered when another runner shifted in. Held-up from the 450m until entering the home straight.
 
LINTHORPE LAD – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages when there was an apparent lack of pace. Raced wide for the majority.
 
RED WAVE - Raced keenly in the early stages when there was an apparent lack of pace.
 
SAYL (GB) - Raced keenly in the early stages when there was an apparent lack of pace. Held-up in the early parts of the home straight and obliged to shift in to obtain clear running. Passing the 200m, disappointed for a run and obliged to momentarily steady.
 
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Raced wide until obtaining a position with cover approaching the 900m.
 
BAANONE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Held-up from the 450m until entering the home straight.
 
HELEVA DEEL – Over-raced on heels near the 900m before attempting to shift in hampering BEAUFORT PARK which was obliged to steady. Shifted out abruptly when over-racing near the 800m hampering runners to its outside. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
HARBELLE - Raced keenly in the early stages when there was an apparent lack of pace. Raced wide for the majority.
 
TOP BOY – Approaching the 900m improved onto heels and obliged to steady. Bumped shortly after when HELEVA DEEL shifted out abruptly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 8: AUDI CENTRE TOOWOOMBA WEETWOOD (1200m)
 
BONAPARTE – Momentarily crowded on jumping. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Entering the home straight when attempting to shift out and around heels to obtain clear running bumped with MASS DESTRUCTION and continued to do so for some distance and was subsequently unable to obtain clear running thereafter.
 
ROMAN AUREUS – Bumped with TEARS OF LOVE approaching the 900m when that runner commenced to over-race. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
DOCTOR ZOUS – Approaching the 900m, bumped on the hind quarters by NEDS GULLY, became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped with SIR ROCKET.
 
RANCH HAND – Approaching the 1100m, obliged to restrain when racing in restricted room.
 
SITUATION ROOM – Raced keenly on heels near the 700m.
 
MASS DESTRUCTION – Began awkwardly. Crowded soon after the start. Approaching the 1100m, momentarily crowded. Entering the home straight, bumped with BONAPARTE when that runner attempted to obtain clear running.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
TEARS OF LOVE – Approaching the 900m, commenced to over-race and bumped by ROMAN AUREUS before being shifted in by NED”S GULLY. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
NED'S GULLY – Approaching the 900m, bumped with TEARS OF LOVE before shifting in and bumping with DOCTOR ZOUS.  
 
SIR ROCKET – Approaching the 900m, bumped by DOCTOR ZEUS became severely unbalanced for several strides and bumped the inside running rail.
 
BURNISH GOLD – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
 
Race 9: MOORE TRAILERS COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
BUGALUGS – Raced keenly on heels from the 700m for a short distance thereafter.
 
TINTINWIN (NZ) – Slow to begin. Momentarily crowded passing the 900m. Held-up rounding the home turn until the 100m.
 
HAMLET VON SNITZEL – Raced keenly on heels from the 700m for a short distance thereafter. Held-up rounding the home-turn until near the 100m when disappointed for a run and consequently went to the line untested.
 
TRAMONTO – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 1000m, became awkwardly placed when racing keenly on heels. Soon after took charge of its rider and shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with MICRO which was taken out across the running of LIGHT OF BOOM which was obliged to restrain. Jockey Marshall and Jockey Molloy who were identified as the primary cause of the tightening were both advised to exercise greater care. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
LIGHT OF BOOM – Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start.
 
POCKET FULL – Momentarily hampered approaching the 1000m when taken inwards.
 
MICRO – Began awkwardly.
 
MAYA BAY - Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
COUNT THE COIN – Held up entering rounding the home turn until the 150m.
 
SENSATIONAL REWARD – Apprentice J. Molloy was fined $300 under AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of 1kg. In determining penalty Stewards noted App Molloy’s good record in relation to the rule.
