Trainer Mr. T. Lunney pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 228(b) in that he used foul language in reference to a Steward in the vicinity of the swab stall. Mr. Lunney was fined $300.
Race 1: STEELE’S BAKERY & CAFE MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
DARK ROCKER – Eased from the heels of SECRET’S SAKE which shifted in approaching the 400m.
PHONY PONY – Laid in over the concluding stages. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the gelding’s seemingly improved performance, the trainer’s representative advised that, in his opinion, the horse’s form had been good prior to its last start at the Sunshine Cost on 28 July 2019 and, following its disappointing performance on that occasion, the stable had elected to send the horse for a spell. He went on to say that the gelding had been working well and jumped out well in the lead up to today’s race and, in his opinion, had benefitted from the inside barrier today.
MR NODDY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner approaching the 50m.
VIKING CLAP – Shifted out to avoid the heels of RHETORICAL near the 50m.
CHEESIE – Jockey H. Phillips advised that the mare resents the use of the whip and, as a result, connections have instructed her to limit the use of the whip on the mare today.
CREDITWORTHY – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
NZURI MWALI – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the below market expectation performance, jockey R. Goltz advised that, immediately after jumping, the mare was reluctant to stretch out and, in his opinion, was not suited by the firm track today. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RHETORICAL – Made contact with the enclosure fence, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
SECRET’S SAKE – Raced greenly for a short distance near the 400m.
Race 2: HYNES NEWSAGENCY / W. CAREY & SONS QUALITY MEATS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1100M
COUP – Jockey S. Bogenhuber was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Bogenhuber’s prior good record in relation to this rule, however they were also mindful that her mount had won the race.
RAPIDO GRIS – Slow to begin.
DEADLY ONE – Began awkwardly. On return to scale, jockey G. Geran advised that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout.
ZAITEKI – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Eased when placed in restricted room when awkwardly placed at heels near the 700m and again near the 500m.
KASITA – Slow to begin. Steadied to avoid the heels of I AM COURAGE approaching the 100m. Jockey N. Evans and trainer T. Webb could offer no explanation for the filly’s disappointing performance today.
Race 3: WARWICK DAILY NEWS MAIDEN PLATE – 1500M
The start of this race was delayed to enable the broadcast of an interstate event.

Shimodaira was issued with a severe reprimand as a result of this incident.

YANKEE SANG – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: MAYDAN LIVESTOCK / FREESTONE FEEDLOT MAGIC MILLIONS COUNTRY CUP QUALIFIER OPEN H’CAP – 1200M
RHYME NOR RHYTHM – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground. Clipped heels and fell near the 400m. Stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding RHYME NOR RHYTHM falling near the 400m. After taking evidence from Apprentice Z. White (HEART OF KINGS), L. McCoy (HE’S A MORAL), K. Yoshida (COLPO DI TAMBURO) and J. Oliver (RHYME NOR RHYTHM), Stewards found that near the 400m HE’S A MORAL shifted out marginally to secure clear running to the outside of HEART OF KINGS. At the same time, COLPO DI TAMBURO also shifted to the outside of the heels of HE’S A MORAL to secure clear running from behind that runner. RHYME NOR RHYTHM, which was at that time racing slightly to the outside of the heels of COLPO DI TAMBURO, clipped the heels of that runner and fell. In assessing the incident, Stewards could not be satisfied that any rider had ridden in a careless manner and deemed the matter a racing incident and took the matter no further. In this incident, J. Oliver was dislodged and suffered a seemingly harmless fall. Following the event, J. Oliver was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers on two occasions and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.
THE TAX ACCOUNTANT – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground. After being caught wide, Apprentice A. Thompson permitted his mount to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m.
SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground.
HEART OF KINGS – Began awkwardly and, as a result, tightened the runners to its outside.
Race 5: PSP VIDEO – HAPPY NEW YEAR BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 800M
Following the declaration of correct weight, it was identified that STICK WITH ME’s barrier gate was slightly slow to open.
As Apprentice A. Thompson was being assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers following the running of this race, Stewards declared correct weight under the provisions of AR. 208(3)(b).
AIRINO – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer J. Smerdon regarding the late declaration of R. Goltz as rider. Tightened for room on jumping away. Lost the off side winker approaching the 200m.
HIDE THE MOON – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. In this incident, Apprentice A. Thompson was struck in the head. Following the race, Apprentice A. Thompson was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.
CANID – Trainer G. Richardson was fined $100 for the late declaration of H. English as rider.
SIN TAN – On return to scale, jockey G. Geran reported that the filly was inclined to hang out from the 400m and, as a result, he was unable to fully test his mount in the home straight.

GET ME CHARLIE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer T. Lunney was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward.
WAIT A MINUTE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 1000m and again near the 800m. Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 400m and, as a result, lost ground. Shifted out in the early stages of the home straight.

BRIDGET’S DIARY – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer G. Schwenke advised that, in his opinion, the mare had been unlucky at its last start which preceded its most recent spell. He added that the horse had been working well leading up to today’s race and for this reason he had expected a forward showing today. He went on to say that the stable had supported the mare today.
MISS MAKEPEACE – Bumped on jumping away.
Race 7: THE TREVOR SCHOORL MEMORIAL CUP BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1500M
Due to the delay prior to the start of the Race 6, the start time of this race was amended to 5.04pm.
The start of this race was delayed when KEEP ON ROCKING reared and got its near fore leg over the barrier gate. The gelding was withdrawn from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching at 5.07pm on veterinary advice. All monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
5 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8

HEART VANDELAY – When questioned by Stewards regarding the performance, jockey J. Oliver advised that it was his intention to lead, however the gelding was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages and, in his opinion, may not have been suited by the firm racing surface today. Jockey Oliver could offer no other tangible explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance.
RISING KING – Buffeted by a runner to its inside near the 900m.
MISS HOW LONG – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
MASTER OF THE TURF – Slow into stride and lost ground.
