RACE 1:  MAIDEN PLATE 850 Metres
 
FREESTONE – Stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground.  Trainer S McEwan was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.  When questioned regarding poor performance to be beaten in excess of 28 lengths, app C Bayliss stated the gelding never travelled at any stage of the event and in his opinion was disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
 
CHURCHILL DAWN – had not raced for over 12 months and was examined by club vet prior to the event and cleared to start.
 
RAPID LIAISON – bumped at the start when SQUIRTZI shifted out abruptly.
 
SQUIRTZI – jumped out at the start and made contact with RAPID LIAISON.  After being crossed by runners from the outside near the 700 metres, commenced to race ungenerously after receiving sand kickback and lost ground from that point of the race. 
 
 
 
RACE 2:  CLASS B HDCP 850 Metres
 
CHAYSE’N’MASON – app C Bayliss was reprimanded for using his whip six times prior to the 100 metres.  In assessing penalty stewards took into account C Bayliss’ good record in this regard. 
 
BULLETIN BELLE – slow to begin.
 
BY CONCENT – slow to begin.
 
 
 
RACE 3:  OPENHDCP 1100 Metres
 
JEB’S BOY – raced wide throughout.
SHOULDA TO SHOULDA – app A Spinks reported at scale after travelling comfortably in the lead, the gelding struggled in the heavy sand conditions near the inside rail over the final 300 metres. 
SUNSET SHOWDOWN – slow to begin.
LE MAX – raced wide throughout.
 
RACE 4:  BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1100 Metres
DR QUINCY – when questioned regarding below-market performance app H English stated in her opinion the gelding, which was having its first start on a sand surface, did not handle the prevailing track conditions.  Trainer P Sexton added he was of the belief DR QUINCY had not have backed up from its most recent start at the ITC on 7/10/16.
 
 
 
RACE 5: CUP BENCHMARK 65 1465 Metres
 
GET THAT INDYA – obliged to steady near the 1100 metres when racing in restricted room to the inside of GAS BURNER, which shifted in.
 
GAS BURNER – shifted in and tightened GET THAT INDYA near the 1100 metres.  App A Van Der Sanden was advised to exercise greater care.
 
FAMECHON BARONESS – rider M O’Brien was fined $100 for using her whip seven times prior to the 100 metres.
 
DECILLION – slow to begin. When questioned regarding poor performance to finish distanced, app M Cox stated the mare never travelled comfortably at any stage in the prevailing sand conditions and was most disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.  Trainer B Phillips was advised a warning would be placed on the horses’ record for a poor performance.
 
TOUCAN UKELELE – when questioned over poor performance to be beaten over 35 lengths, rider S Bayliss was of the opinion the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.  Trainer S McEwan advised stewards TOUCAN UKELELE would be sent for an immediate spell.  Acting on this undertaking, stewards took no further action.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
