Apprentice A. Fancourt reported that from the awkward draw she had to ride her mount forward in the early stages to cross runners to her inside and after doing so when she endeavoured to steadied in front, the gelding overraced badly despite her efforts and proved difficult to settle and as a consequence compounded over the concluding stages.

Apprentice Q. Krogh reported her mount did not show its usual gate speed as it had previously in Rockhampton, and that when placed under pressure passing the 600m failed to respond and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
