Stewards questioned D. Smith regarding the reason for him shifting out from the 400m, which enabled both DASHING SPECIAL and MERLIN’S MAGIC to obtain a run to his inside. Jockey Smith explained that his mount was inclined to lay out from the 500m and when weakening rounding the home turn it laid out further, which provided room for both DASHING SPECIAL and MERLIN’S MAGIC to improve to his inside. Jockey Smith explained that his horse is better suited when racing on a rain-affected track. His explanation was noted.
