Slow to begin. Questioned regarding tactics, Jockey stated his instructions were to ride in a forward position, however, after being slow to begin he settled further back than anticipated. Near the 1200m he elected to shift out and stride forward in an attempt to comply with instructions. The gelding failed to show sufficient speed and as a result raced 3 wide without cover. He added the gelding commenced to weaken from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate. Trainer N Harrison advised that the gelding will now be retired from racing.

Near the 1400m steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of SWEET SHAMROCK which shifted in. Near the 1200m hampered when bumped by another runner. Jockey M Palmer reported that the gelding made an abnormal respiratory sound during the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer B Dais undertook to have an endoscopic examination performed prior to its next race start.
