When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey M Hellyer explained that the horse has shown previously that it races best when allowed to dictate terms on its own accord. He said today he was keen to maintain the lead, however, it was headed by HIDDEN ROAD. He said the horse then travelled only fairly however, once PONCHERELLO raced up alongside, his mount dropped the bit and commenced to weaken before straightening. In straight did not persist in riding it out as was losing ground quickly. Post-race examination revealed poor post-race recovery and mild heart stress.

Began awkwardly and then crowded upon jumping. Hung out badly from the 900m and raced wide on the track of its own accord. In the straight due to its racing manners the gelding was unable to be ridden out and was eased down.
