When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages, Jockey S Bogenhuber stated that she was specifically instructed to lead on the basis that the gelding has never performed well when ridden with cover. Ms Bogenhuber added that for this reason she was reluctant to allow THE DANGER to cross forward of her in the early stages. Ms Bogenhuber further added that after THE DANGER was steadied leaving the 1200m she then attempted to reduce the tempo, however, the gelding continued to race strongly despite her efforts. Trainer C Cousins confirmed the instructions.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages, Jockey A Fancourt stated that her instructions were to attempt to obtain the lead as the gelding has previously performed well when ridden in that manner. Ms Fancourt added that in an effort to comply with those instructions she rode the gelding vigorously in the initial 200m, however, after realising she was unable to cross forward of MALCRIADO, she took hold in an attempt to settle the gelding but despite her efforts it refused to settle until a point near the 900m.
