Thompson stated that it was his intention to lead or race handy. After beginning fairly, shortly thereafter was crossed by two runners and settled in a midfield rails position. The gelding which performed poorly and tired noticeably over the concluding stages, underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
