Slow to begin. Trainer's representative questioned re seemingly improved performance - advised that at its first start in a race drew wide and as a result raced wide throughout. Added in his opinion gelding had derived a fitness benefit from that run and as such had expected a forward showing today. Stewards noted explanation.

Contact at start. Made home turn awkwardly and was steadied on a number of occasions. On return to scale rider reported given the horse had previously had a tendency to hang out in its races he elected to look to improve between runners from 500m. He added as a result horse was reluctant to improve between runners in home straight, which attributed to it racing greenly.

Commenced to lose ground shortly after start taking no competitive part in race. Vetted - no abnormalities. Trainer at a loss to explain performance other than gelding may have resented tongue tie it was racing in for first time today. Trainer gave undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light that may have had a bearing on the horse's performance. Nonetheless trainer advised gelding must trial to satisfaction of stewards before racing again.
