When questioned regarding the mares improved performance, trainer M. Dunn explained that at its last start, when racing in a forward position, it overraced, and on the recommendation of jockey Fradd he removed the cross-over nose band and winkers and added a tongue tie. He said that he instructed the rider to attempt to settle the mare off the speed with cover, which he believed would allow the mare to finish the race off. Sewell was unable to offer any tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had a mild respiratory infection. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to it racing again.
